  1. I'll be there with a bunch of trade stuff. I also have the following consoles that I will only bring if someone says they want them in advance:

    Atari 2600 4-switch woodgrain

    Atari 2600 black (boxed)

    Atari 5200

    Colecovision (PAL)

    Game Gear (no battery covers)

    Genesis 1

    NES

    Nintendo 64

    Odyssey 2 (complete in box)

    Playstation

    Quiz Wiz Challenger

    Saturn

    Tandyvision (Intellivision clone)

    VIC-20 (complete in box)

a few Pongs and an Atari Stunt Cycle

  2. I haven't played these to the end, but I imagine Escape from the Mindmaster and Dragonstomper must have endings.

Also, I can't remember... does Mountain King end, or do you just do it again after you bring the crown to the top?

  3. I hate to say it, but the Colecovision version is the best one from that era.
    What Colecovision version?

I had a party last weekend and guess which Atari 2600 game got the most gameplay. PAC-MAN!

  4. Hi Keir!

Voting is now on. Don't know if I can wait until March 31st to find out who wins!

Oh, I can wait. I don't think I'll win anything with my level :)

And I'm yet undecided which level should get my vote. Need to play them some more.

Well, I didn't mean that I thought I would win. Just that they're all so good I want to know how the results turn out. I also need to play them some more because I just can't decide. I think I'll add each one to a level pack so I can play them all in a row.

  5. Uhm... Ok. When the submission phase is over, Matty will offer all submissions to public judgement and then we can count how many AA member submissions are in. I'd estimate a number >= 2 :D

    Make that three.

Voting is now on. Don't know if I can wait until March 31st to find out who wins!

This is kind of weird, but last night I had a dream that I was playing your level, Manuel. It was just like the one you made but with one difference: instead of smart darts, there were little cars driving around the tracks that you had to dodge.

  6. I think I would be more interested in homebrews if more of them came with boxes.

    Here's another possibility:

    Commodore 64/VIC-20 style boxes

They're just generic boxes with a hole in front. The manual goes inside the box in front, effectively serving as a cover.

Regarding the folding, gluing, etc. maybe you could go with plastic cases like the ones Genesis carts came in, with a sheet of paper that slides into the outer clear plastic sleeve. In order to make it cost effective you could also sell them for people to hold their loose carts in.

  7. I have $28 in store credit from sending in commons and I can't decide what to do with it! I'm not really into the homebrew thing, but there are a few I'm interested in and if I don't get them now I know I never will. On the other hand, there are a bunch of old games I'd like to get for my collection. And who knows how much longer they'll have Zone Ranger for the 5200? Any thoughts?

  8. @jhd: One thing to consider is that Genesis collectors almost always want the box so if they're loose you're going to have a much harder time getting rid of them.

@goatdan: I'm not associated with the sections you mentioned but I can understand where you're coming from. Yes, the online guides need a lot of work and that's why they're free. I'd like to address some of your comments, and hopefully I can help clear some things up for you.

Pirates! Gold is listed as a $25.00 game. It sells on eBay regularly for over $65.00.

EBay prices are not a good guideline as they change constantly and are subject to all sorts of factors irrelevant to the game (time of listing, picture, etc.) Digital Press strives to provide collector's prices, i.e. the price you can expect when dealing one on one with another collector. Just for the record, I got mine complete from Gamestop for under $10 (though I realise I was lucky to find it there.)

Double Dragon V is listed as a $25.00 game. It can be found at your area GameStop for $8.00 last I checked. It is not nearly as rare as Pirates! Gold is.

I don't claim to be an expert on Genesis games, but you're probably right here. One thing that might make a difference is that the Genesis prices assume that the box is included, while Gamestop typically throws them away.

Sonic 3 is listed as being worth $3.00. Sonic 3 regularly sells from the GOAT Store at $10.00 for a copy with no box or instructions.

I can only assume that this is because you are a reputable store and people are willing to pay for the reliability you provide. However, I know that I could get this any weekend at a thrift or flea market for under $5, complete or not.

Your comments are always welcome at the Digital Press Collectors Guide forum:

  9. They did indeed. Awesome song too (but I figured I'd go with the original song that inspired the game).

    Here are a few more:

    Blackjack Agony Column - "Blackjack"

Fire Fly Kermit the Frog - "Firefly" (I'm not sure who did it originally, Tony Bennet maybe?)

Flash Gordon Queen - "Flash Gordon"

    Frogger Bad Religion - "Frogger"

    Gauntlet Nosferatu - "The Gauntlet"

    Gunslinger Voice - "Gunslinger"

Miner 2049'er Devo - "Working in a Coal Mine" (I don't remember who did the original)

    Superman R.E.M. - "Superman"

BTW, the Ghostbusters song is by Ray Parker Jr.

  10. I had this idea to make a list of songs that can be associated with Atari games and see if I could get 1 song for each game ever released for the 2600. It could be a song about the game (e.g. Buckner & Garcia's "Pac-Man Fever") or maybe it just has the same name as a game (The Who's "Squeeze Box") or maybe it just reminds you of the game for some obscure reason. Think we can do it?

Here are a few to get started....

Asteroids Kid Stuff Records - "Asteroids"

    Defender Manowar - "Defender"

Donkey Kong Buckner & Garcia - "Do the Donkey Kong"

Freeway Arethra Franklin - "Freeway of Love"

H.E.R.O. Tina Turner - "We Don't Need Another Hero"

Journey Escape Journey - "Don't Stop Believin'"

Missile Command Kid Stuff Records - "Missile Command"

Mountain King Edvard Grieg - "In the Hall of the Mountain King"

Out of Control Edguy - "Out of Control"

    Pac-Man Buckner & Garcia - "Pac-Man Fever"

Pressure Cooker Metal Church - "In Due Time" (lyric: "I am trapped in a pressure cooker")

Squeeze Box The Who - "Squeeze Box"

Yar's Revenge Kid Stuff Records - "Yar's Revenge"

    Anyone care to add?

  11. Mayan Adventure was fantastic...animation, difficulty, and the original hidden in the game.

Ooh! I'll have to find that. (Not that I don't already own several versions of the original Pitfall. )

I couldn't really get into this game either, but it's not as bad as some of the other "sequels".

What we really need is a Pitfall III that doesn't change the game any more than Pitfall II did to the first Pitfall. Or I should just spend more time with the bonus adventure in Pitfall II for the 5200. Hey, couldn't someone hack a cart with just the bonus adventure on it (so you don't have to play through the first game every time)? That would be something.

  12. Why would anyone want them all? Then there wouldn't be any to be on the lookout for.

Then you start on the next system! :D

Personally I use the Digital Press Guide count of 520. I'm not saying it's the right number, because clearly you could argue forever about this, but it's what I use (making my collection 42% complete).

    What it includes:

    - every U.S. release

    - Supercharger cassettes (12 total, in case you don't want to count them)

    - manufacturer variations (Sears releases of Atari games, Atari releases of Coleco games, etc. I should figure out how many of these there are since I'm not that interested in collecting them.)

    What it does NOT include:

    - label variations

    - non-U.S. releases

    - pirates

    - prototypes

    - homebrews

    - hacks
