hmm, where to start with an answer ...
i like your enthusiasm and the intent behind your thoughts in the beginning
, but there are certainly many more reasons that I have not enumerated that speak against such a project.
1. The Rating would only be an overview of the members on this website. The unreported number of offline collectors is too big.
2. Every collector who joins, would mark for example, a "Combat" and a "Lost Luggage", but where does he list the other ten Combat copies that a big collector still has at home.
3. What about the variations? for Example: Combat 1977, Combat 1978, Combat 1979
4. Not every collector recognizes the difference between PAL and NTSC or SECAM. It does not matter to some collectors. The main thing is, that the title is in the collection.
5. Especially the big collectors have little interest in telling everyone what's in their collection. One could only evaluate the data anonymously.
6. In rare games you could possibly derive a tendency, but not in the common titles.7. For tactical reasons, it is not always advisable to mark a rare game, because that reduces the rarity level. (Sales intentions)
8. and
9. so
10. on ...
11. That would be a lot of work (and requires a complete Database)
The only option you have, if you know several long-term collectors who can call their own a very large collection (maybe range far beyond 1000+), or collectors with special collection areas (maybe v-carts section), then you have a chance to do something.
A collection and experience make this possible. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about
I'm curious about the point ov view of others here in the forum. -

Nice to know.
Thanks for sharing the information with us.

yes, i can confirm that.

Hi,
have you tried the forumsearch?
maybe the search results help to find what you are looking for.

Has anybody ever seen a label on a Scala cart?i can hardly imagine, that a company has sold boxed games with no cartlabel.... or can someone show me one? -
Can the poster be made available again, or maybe a smaller version for downloading so it can be printed to be put into the box? Maybe with a watermark in the corner?
Please, make it happen.
i never thought you like watermarks at some point.

I'd say just the Atari specific, gray XE style carts. Be interesting to see what games were and were not released like this.
have looked to my cabinet and found only Football and Final Legacy
Titels as far as I can see this thread:Donkey Kong Junior
Final Legacy
Football
Joust
Millipede
Moon Patrol
Ms. Pac Man
Pac Man
Pole Position
Tennis
additional ?
weird. i have (all, nearly all?) these titles in silver boxes with the old style carts
-
I have these, which I believe were posted by AA user tjlazer.
...
Any XE prototype label is going to be fictitious though.
I like what the XE cart page here did with protos: AEX - Atari XE Cartridges
They just took the demo cartridge label and applied the name of each proto.
It looks pretty cool and separates out all the protos from the release carts
nicely.
You can also look here and see some labels that have been made by resellers
and users (look right below the XE cart section): Pitfall Jones - 8-bit Cartridges
i agree with you that the demo cartridge label looks really cool for protos, i like it.
But for the database i prefer the real deal, a pic from the prototype (cart or pcb) or nothing.

Here's the excerpt about it from Best Electronic's site:Atari Bruce Lee Prototype 8 bit Atari XE Cartridge
Thanks for The Best Electronics Info. I think i should put it on the list.

Thanks for all your replies so far.
I still have some more boxed XE style carts in these silver boxes at home. If I have idle times, then I may add them too. just for fun.
From about how many silver boxes are we talking in total? My accessibility in this collection area is very limited as i am more at home in the Atari 2600 section.
Also thanks for the scan offers.
I scanned and uploaded today my last available boxes and carts from the xegs series.
There are only a few gaps left. Please take a look at the link below. I would be glad if someone can send me some scans to close them.http://www.atariboxed.com/index.php?go=output&dir=DESC&rows_per_page=50&select_system=4
btw: Do all xegs protos just have a weird label in different colors on the cart? (see Tower Toppler in the List)
-
i also prefer the "Full Version" view.
Maybe the button can be positioned at the top of the page, someday.
-

hmm, good question.
I have not thought about it yet.
But if i would, how would it fit into the "XEGS" Series.
Sure, that would be the smallest problem to add the titles. How many titles are we talking about here?...but is there a need in the community for such a List?
I think there are other websites with this topic better positioned.
What would come after the gray carts?
The systems in the database have been added in terms of "Atari Consoles".Feedback welcome.

Does a official GameBox for Bug Hunt and Flight Simulator II exist, or were both games only loose available as a add-on?
How about a Box for the Demo Cartridge?

Well, the pcb's of the Taiwan XE/XEGS carts are compatible to the older 800/XL style carts, meaning you can put a Taiwan pcb into an 800/XL cart shell or vice-versa. Alas, the Taiwan cart shells do have noses that break easily (or should I say were made to break easily by Atari/Tramiel intentionally)... and there is no screw anywhere.
The Hong Kong cart pcb does not fit into any other cart shell afaik, they do have a screw (under the label!) and a big nose/grip/handle on the backside.
Another thing I found out with my XL PAL computers is that the Hong Kong carts work immediately when I put them into the cart slot, whereas I have to put the Taiwan carts 2-3 times into the cart slot for them to work (think the pins of the Taiwan cart are a few mm shorter). Someone also told me, the Hong Kong and Taiwan carts do have different timings, but I do not know if this is true or just a legend...
Now, as a collector try to find Archon in a Hong Kong cart ! Archon is not rare at all, but in the last 30 years I never found that game inside a Hong Kong cart (and I tried to get as many XE/XEGS carts as Hong Kong type versions as possible).
Maybe we could do a best of both worlds, e.g. use the pcb's of the Taiwan cart (with slighly longer pins), but make a shell that uses one (or more) screw(s) on the backside to open/close the cartridge ?!?
Think Atari had a plant in Taiwan and another one in Hong Kong, but why they produced two different type of XE/XEGS carts (pcb's and shells) is beyond me...
Thank you for your explanation. That brings some light into the darkness.
Was Eastern Front in the blue xegs box only released with in the old stock black cartshells and a new blue label on it? Or was there another run with newer cartshells too?
btw: today i have uploaded some more cart and boxscans.

You forgot the Demo cartridge.
Thanks for the info.
It is now added to the database.
http://www.atariboxed.com/index.php?go=output&dir=DESC&rows_per_page=50&select_system=4
The first bunch of Box and cart Scans are now uploaded.
More will follow in the next few days.

ok, i have now added the XEGS Titles to the database.
According to the current state of things, we would have 38 entries.
Both official and never released titles.
I would be glad if you take the time to look over it, if i have missed something, or can leave it that way.

Any help with hints for possible corrections are welcome.

How do you all define a complete set?
I think there are different views.
Are you talking only from NTSC?

-
Thank you for this. So far from this thread and associated links I get the sense that the "Taiwan Cooper" games were probably manufactured in the mid-late 1980's for sale mostly in Europe, although it's possible/likely that the carts were also used by Zellers in Canada. I assume then that they made their way into the United States largely through the collector's market?
The Taiwan Cooper Series link, i have posted above, includes only PAL Versions, which were sold in europe.
There exist nearly 60 NTSC Titles that have not been added to this Database yet.
-
Was Taiwan Cooper games related to zellers?
Zellers was (until recently) a major discount department store chain in Canada -- think of a slightly up-market version of Wal-Mart.
They had various store-brand products, but they did not manufacture anything themselves. They would have purchased the games from a supplier (either the original manufacturer or a distributor).
It is not known who the original manufacturer of these games was.
It is my personal theory that the store-brand games sold by the German discount department store chain Quelle came from the very same source, but I have no evidence to prove that.
The Zellers Series and the Taiwan 2600 Compatible Series came certainly from the same source.
They were mostly sold in the Netherlands and in much less quantity you can find them in Italy and Spain.
Both above Series have nothing to do with the german Quelle Series,
but the Quelle Series could certainly be from the same source as the Taiwan Cooper Black Series.
It is not just the obvious similar designs of the boxes and carts, but also the cardboard from which the boxes were made, suggesting that it comes from different sources.

Disagree
Subjective is the point of view of an individual, influenced by his personal preferences.
Rarity is not subjective, in marked contrast to value and shape.
A rare cart IS a rare cart.
or should i say "a Holy Grale" is "a Holy Grale", until proven otherwise.
