  1. After posting I had to play to confirm what I said. I used the option to reconfigure the controls (why didnt I see it before :? ) so now my custom scheme is:

    L/R sticks: move

L1: special weapon (smart bomb, etc)

    R1: shoot

    L2/R2: rotate turret

    D-pad/buttons: not used/unassigned

Now I dont have to stop moving to shoot (w/ 'x' button.) This really helped my game- I got to at least the 5th station on a handful of continues. The 4th station's "shop" had an option to warp to Station 6 but I chose not to. Also, I found those saucers are rather easy to destroy.

I came across some sleek silver tanks in a later level. They resemble Darth Maul's spaceship from Episode I, & fire twin shots!

  2. Yeah, the control is screwed (thanks, Midway!) You'd think the dual sticks (on a PS2) would lend themselves to control perfection- NOT SO! & one of the options is to use the shoulder buttons to move? No thanks- that's what STICKS are for! They should've made the R1 (trigger finger) to shoot, too.

I think the saucers can be taken out by those smart bomb things you can buy.

  3. Back on topic- I got Nigel Mansell Racing last weekend & just played it- it also shares 3 tracks w/ Jag SB & WTR. The programmers were nice enough to include the tracks real(?) names:

    Brazil- Interlagos

    France- Magny Cours

    Hungary- Hungaroring

BTW- if you have a SNES, I suggest Nigel Mansell Racing. Pretty tight little game w/ decent graphics & options.

  4. IIRC I read in a past GamePro a 2-pg story on "Purple" in an interview format, w/ some about how an early build of AvP was going, etc. & how he got his nickname- everything he wore that day was purple. I remember the article was printed on a purple background & was hard to read.

When the original post mentioned "lead on the project" I thought of it.

  5. I got it for Xmas & like it a lot, a bit late playing than those who snapped it up right away. You'll notice on the Unlocks list the games/carts are grouped by year, & the max # of slots per side in the caddy is 8 or 9? So if there weren't that many releases (or they chose not to include certain games), the slots are empty. I dont think it has to do w/ hidden games, at least I havent heard that.

What patches/emblems are you SURE you'll never get? I've unlocked all commercials & about 1/2 the patches. I dont think I'll get:

    Pressure Cooker

    Tennis

    StarMaster highest rank

Laser Blast (Dont want to sit still that long, maybe when I'm bored)

Grand Prix (this must be impossible- 30 sec on course 1?)

  6. before they go to eBay:

"D" (PS)- in original longbox w/ manual- exc cond, $20 S/H incl.

Final Fantasy VII (PS)- Greatest Hits pkg w/ manual, exc cond, barely used (I only got partly thru disc 1!) $15 S/H incl.

Sorry- domestic only- no int'l deals please!

Also will trade EITHER game for Juggernaut (PS), specifically disc 3 which freezes up on me.

Please PM if interested. I have a 100% eBay rating & good deals w/ members ndary, davidcalgary29, Atarius Maximus, & maxlords from Digital Press. Thanks!

  7. OK- after extensive study I found:

Brazil, Hungary, & France tracks are the same in both games, & Japan & Australia are pretty close. WTR track graphic representations are more jagged than SB's smoother track pix, so it's kinda hard to tell. I always thought it was some copyright infringement, the tracks being "copied" between games, but if Sinigord is correct then it doesn't matter.

For the Punisher (hi speed/grip, 218 mph- only Sliding Thunder is faster), type 21794 at the title screen. It's available in "Select Bike".

For the Turbo Boost, type 19672 @ title screen. Press 'C' at max speed during a race to use it!

  8. There's a hidden bike at the title screen; you have to enter a numeric code to get the Punisher. I think it's an all-around decent bike w/ good speed/grip.

One interesting thing I found w/ SB & World Tour Racing is that some of the tracks are the same, as if they "stole" them from one or the other- I think Hungary is the same, & a few more. Maybe I'll check soon.

  9. What's the BEST controller setup for PS2 RoadBlasters- default settings? I also had some trouble steering- I would veer all over the road, despite being good at the arcade version. The scoring multiplier is worthless in a situation like that!

    Loving Toobin, Sinistar, Vindicators, KLAX.

My non-gaming wife filled up the Tapper hi-score screen- she played for over 1/2 an hour! I was amazed...

  10. Action Bass (PS1) is a decent game, but the underwater graphics are subpar (polygonal ramps). & Saltwater Sportfishing is a good "step up", w/ worldwide locations, more fish types, & more play modes, but since its deep-sea fishing, you never see the ocean floor. My personal record is a 16' 1714-lb blue marlin caught on 130-lb line.

Asked/hoping for Fisherman's Bass Club (PS2) for Xmas...
