Wow it looks awesome!!!! Love the Tiny Toons cart. Glad to hear they pop up on eBay once in a while, just in case I get a Jag again, I may want to get this.

Wow it sounds like you had quite the set up! It's impressive that you were able to have them all hooked up. I have the Atari 2600, Magnavox Odyssey 2, Mattel Intellivision, Colecovision and the Fairchild Channel F - but I feel they're way too many consoles. I don't have much space in my entertainment unit so I can only have 2 consoles set up at a time. Right now the 2600 is connected and the Odyssey 2's RF cable can just be swapped in if I wanted to play. Even though I have less systems than you did I do feel like the kid in the candy store. I feel way too overwhelmed by the option, and I'm learning that I can only play one at a time. Plus I have a weakness for homebrews and almost all the consoles I own do have homebrew releases, so I'm trying this month to just focus on the 2600. It's hard though, the Coleco is tempting. But overall I am happier with just the 2600 hooked up and I'm playing way more!

Sounds like you have some great Atari 2600 memories! I love reading stories like that. I was actually the kid with all the consoles...I had an NES, SNES, and Genesis, then I resurrected my sister's Atari 2600 and bought an Atari 7800 during Radio Shack's revival. Shortly thereafter I would add the Atari Jaguar. I remember having the first four systems all hooked up to the entertainment center in my room, those were some good times. Of course I had way more time to play back then. I had a Colecovision for a bit after graduating college, I did have Venture, but my favorite was Spy Hunter! The game play and music was way too cool. Of course after playing the 2600 this week, I'm reminded that graphics aren't everything. I'm in the same boat, my budget is going to be extra tight the next few months so I fear I'll have little money for games. Part of the reason why I'm trying to focus on the 2600, it'll lessen the temptation to spend money on so many games. I do have a few duplicates in my collection, I can list them later and see if there are any you're missing. I'm a gamer more than a collector so I don't need duplicates.

Wow this game looks awesome!!! Thank you for sharing! I had a Jaguar in the mid/late 90s, when it was at the end of its lifespan. I was a huge Atari 2600 fan so I became a fan of all things Atari. While I had ignored the Jaguar as I continued to play my SNES/Genesis, for my 13th birthday I did get a Jaguar to support Atari, and I was pretty happy for a while. I knew I was supporting the underdog. I also loved Tiny Toons at the time so this game would've been a slice of heaven! Too bad, Atari never completed it, I think it would've been a big seller. I'm glad it was made available even if it is incomplete. I know it's sold out, but how much did the Jaguar Preservation Pack #1 sell for? It would be cool if one day someone finished the game.

I'm not "smart enough" when it comes to figuring out what's wrong with my Pitfall 2 cart either. When my Atari 2600 had malfunctioning difficulty switches, I just shipped it off to a 25+ year Atari store to get it fixed. Didn't even dare tinker with it. Pitfall 2 was in an outside storage unit for many years, exposed to extreme temperatures. Also, I know that it has some sophisticated chip inside that allowed for the harmonized music and expansive gameplay and graphics, so perhaps it got ruined over the years of being stored improperly. Fortunately, the rest of my Atari 2600 collection survived intact. Yes, Jr. Pac-Man came in the red box. It was one of the later releases when Atari had their resurgence in the late 80s, same time they released the 7800. So the cart label has a red border and a black and white image of Jr. Pac-Man. I have fond memories of the game as it was the first Atari 2600 game that my dad bought for me. It was the mid-90s and Radio Shack announced that they were going to liquidate their stock of Atari products so they started selling 2600 games again! I remember how excited I was when I read it in Game Informer. It was the days before eBay, so I had no way of getting my hands on Atari 2600 games unless I went to garage sales (which weren't that accessible to me as a kid). So the first game I ordered was Jr. Pac-Man. The day the UPS man delivered it, I was so psyched! So yes I play for nostalgia as well, even though by my day it was already an older console. I love watching the old commercials too. One of my favorites is the one where the guy is asking for an Atari 2600 with everything in it and the store guy just keeps giving him tons and tons of stuff. And finally he goes, "is that everything?" "For now." It epitomizes the Atari 2600 for me - the system that offers practically everything and then more.

I've grown curious about the Jag recently, not sure way, maybe because I used to have one back in the day. I remember from the ads at the time seeing pics of a Tiny Toons game. I know it wasn't released at the time, but did a prototype or anything like that ever surface? The screenshot in the ads looked cool, I think they were all about to get in a rocket or something.

Giving this one a bump...asking price is $50/game plus shipping. PM if interested!

Interesting take on Pac-Man. As a kid I did play and enjoy it, mostly because it was an Atari game and I loved anything Atari. Now, I think I've been spoiled and whenever I do go back to Pac-Man, I just regret it. However I do love Ms. Pac-Man and Jr. Pac-Man is a MUST on the 2600. Hard as hell but graphically impressive and loads of fun. You inspired me and I played Berzerk last night. It's so addicting! I kept going back for more, trying to beat my high score. Also played Space Invaders, a classic standby, and another shooter that I rarely touched - Phoenix. Pretty cool, has all these different bad guys at later stages, very well done. I'm glad I found this thread and decided to focus. I'm rediscovering my Atari and enjoying gaming more than ever. I know it's nostalgia but I still consider the 2600 as the pinnacle of gaming. I have other consoles, weaker and stronger than the 2600, but i agree the 2600 is good anytime. I tried cleaning Pitfall 2 again and it is still dead. I'm not tech savvy either so I know. I usually send my consoles off to get fixed, I wouldn't dare open them.

Thank you, I try. I consider the 2600 my family heirloom. I actually have an extra loose Pitfall 2 cart but I can't get it to work for the life of me. If you think you can work some magic, I'd gladly send it to you for free so you can tinker with it. You can just PM me. Berzerk is awesome! What do you think of Pac-Man?

Work In Progress: "Bentley Bear: Crystal Quest"
Atari2008 replied to PacManPlus's topic in Atari 7800
This game looks super awesome!!! I didn't realize the 7800 has such power, makes me regret having sold mine. -
This game looks so awesome! I can't believe Super Mario Bros is coming to the 2600!!!! This has always been my dream since I was a kid. The NES was my first system so I spent many hours in front of Super Mario Bros, after discovering the 2600, I wished the system could pull off a game close to it. This was well worth the wait.

I'm an old school gamer too, I haven't owned a current console in many years, I just have no interest. I love the 70s/80s game systems. I'm the same way! The 2600 is the only system that I've owned consistently. When I'm cash strapped or lost interest, I've sold various systems but I've always kept the 2600. It has sentimental value, and of course every time I play it I recognize that it ROCKS! You never forget your first love. Yesterday, I played a few games - Yars Revenge, Missile Command, Ms. Pac-Man, Defender 2 and Spiderman. I just love how brilliant these games are in their simplicity. Easy to just pick up and play (usually no manual needed) and hard as nails to master. Good stuff. Kinda makes me feel that maybe I didn't need to add anything else to my collection...just keep the Atari.

Wow, that's quite the endorsement. I was actually going to ask what are the top 2600 homebrews but this answers my question. I'll try my best to get some money for it. Maybe I can help the game sell-out. Glad I came back to the 2600 scene when I did. I'd hate to miss out on this one.

Thank you for the promotion. I agree they are very good games, and I'd keep them if I didn't need the money. Also, the O2 homebrew scene has been very active lately so I definitely recommend checking out the videopac.nl forum that lucifershalo posted. By the way, awesome avatar!

I've had some major unexpected expenses come up lately, so unfortunately I need to sell some homebrews from my collection to make ends meet until the next paycheck. Fortunately, for you my loss, is your gain! I have for sale 3 Magnavox Odyssey2 homebrews which were recently released. They're un-played. They all come with a manual as well as title index card and in a hard plastic case (this is how the European Videopac games were packaged). The cases are original cases that have been reused as such they're old and do have some fading/browning and other slight cosmetic blemishes as can be seen in the photos. Please PM me with an offer. Jungle Girl: comes with the game, instructions, index card and hard plastic case. You'll notice that at the top where the index card goes there is a white slash, looks like white out. The case was reused by the folks who released the homebrew so that's how I received it but it doesn't take away from the game. Also, as a bonus it includes a catalog of all official finalized games and prototypes never released in the 80s for the Odyssey2. Sea Rescue: comes with the game, instructions, index card and hard plastic case. You'll notice that in the back of the case there is a sticker for some sort of military type game that someone tried removing. Again, this is how I received it from the person who released the game since the case is reused, but it doesn't detract from the game. Fatso: comes with the game, instructions, index card and hard plastic case. You'll notice that in the front of the case right where the mouth is there is a slight tan smudge, it looks to be the residue from a sticker that was removed a long time ago. Again, this is how I received it from the person who released the game since the case is reused, but it doesn't detract from the game. Thanks for looking and helping a fellow gamer out.

Lol @ "too old school for him." He doesn't know what he is missing. You could always get the Atari its own power strip that you can just switch off. You're probably better off without the homebrews at least financially. I've been collecting homebrews for other consoles and they're sure expensive! I believe most 2600 ones are cheaper but if you stick to original carts that's probably cheaper still. I love that Pacman homebrew. Only played it in emulation but it rocks!
-
So you're basically saying I should own this masterpiece of a 2600 cart :-)
-
Don't leave it plugged in. Bad lol. I put it on a power strip so its easier. At least the roommate didn't take the Atari. So what are some hot Atari homebrews?
-
Nice! The Atari looks quite at home there. I'll take a pic of my set up when I get home. It's funny, today I was on my laptop and I looked up since the Atari was directly in front of me, and I'm like nice classic technology and new technology. Just having the Atari hooked up again, I'm getting that nostalgic feeling, like the 2600 is the greatest console on the face of the earth.
-
Nice!!! Can we see pics? I'd like to see the Atari now that it's the center of attention. I dug mine up, but I haven't put the other systems away, I'll probably get to that this weekend. I'd like to add titles too, maybe even some homebrews...I have none for the 2600 right now.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was safely stored and being that the 2600 is such a resilient system it survived against all odds! Okay, I'll concede a few years back I had to send it in to get fixed...I'm sure it spending more time in my closet than in my entertainment center had something to do with it. But fortunately, so far the 2600 is healthy and alive.
