  1. Finished refurb of odd twin-stick arcade controller today. Nope, still suck at crazy climber. 🙄

Robotron on MiSTer, and Geometry Wars on Steam did real well, though.

  2. The PiTrex came in today. That sure seems to add a lot of gaming to vectrex. Wow.

Are they still selling that? Where? How much?

https://www.ombertech.com/pitrex.php $54(aud) ~$35(usd), plus shipping from AUS and supplying SD+Pi Zero WH. Came pretty fast, I ordered the night of 3/21.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to keep this in mind, if I ever get my system back.

  3. Saw Gary Numan a couple nights ago. Incredible show. No idea why he tours with Ministry, they were far less great.

I like both!  (I've seen Ministry live)...

I thought I responded to this,  but I fell asleep last night while doing so haha!...

Really like that Gary Numan song "My Name is Ruin", well and Cars and Down in the Park, and so many more...Lots of Classics!

      He's in Denver April 2nd...HMmmm

Down in the Park is excellent, and probably one of his most overlooked numbers.

Girls Under Glass did a decent cover some years ago.  It's a heavier version, but sets the atmosphere well:

I love the Foo Fighters' version of Down in the Park on that X-Files' soundtrack dealy...

  4. Did the world forget what mini golf was? 'Regular golf' is not an appropriate theme for a mini golf course.

@Reaperman yeah that's the sterilization of America/the world. Make everything boring and plain, dull. Try to appeal to everyone. you see this in architecture as well

  8. Never leave HDDs in your laptops when you donate them to thrift shops. I like it when you do, but you don't like it when you do.

I've never donated or thrown out a computer with a hard drive still in it.

Then again, I've never donated or thrown out a computer, probably why my wife is so annoyed.

You wouldn't want stuff on yer computer to end up in the wrong hands...What about all your Porno For Pyros MP3s?   Thought I was gonna say something else huh?

  9. 100gb left of data cap to make it 5 days. Then it resets and I can finally get the cue/bins for the duo jailbreak.

  10. Dune2 was a neat movie, and now nobody'd better ever complain that David Lynch changed too much of the story.

Alia doesn't kill the baron, or even get born--that's the big one. But generally if it 'can' happen out of order, the movie does. I assume they cut fenrings from the end last minute and should have cut them entirely, the one bit left in was odd.

    3. thanatos

      thanatos

Spoiler alert!  Though I must admit I never read the books.  Just a fan of the 1984 movie - but also the director's edition that adds a bit more

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Still need to see the second one...I really liked the first one because it made sense.  Much as I like David Lynch stuff in general,  his version seemed to imply you were supposed to have read the book before viewing...But not unlike Star Trek The Motion Picture,  I got a whopper of a nap in when I saw it in the theater.

  11. New car has a hidden 5v source right up in the headliner next to where a dashcam would go--that's neighborly!

Recently had to do an emergency replacement of vehicles courtesy of a blown head gasket.  The replacement has USB ports and 12V outlets everywhere.  Given how many electronic devices I typically travel with for work, that is an absolute godsend; installing that infrastructure in the old one was not something I was looking forward to.

  12. Reversed course on a plan to chain HDMI switches--was stupid. Ended up setting up 2 quick-change stations w/ storage on current switch instead.

    1. Reaperman

      Reaperman

Now my only permanent HDMIs are PC, Scaler, and MiSTer. The Switch Evercade, Analogues, etc store in a desktop mail sorter when not in use. Less clutter.

    2. bent_pin

      bent_pin

Chained switchers is a PITA. I used to do them with harmony remotes, but the remote knew the settings, so it was just a single button to switch to any device.

  13. shantae advance preorders are open. The previous LRG order, I had a pirate rom from the internet MONTHS before my physical arrived...but fine here's some more money.

    1. Reaperman

      Reaperman

wait, goddamn $75 for the standard release?  This thing better come shipped by rocket, maybe it'll beat the pirate version this time.

  14. Memcard pro 2 gave me my ps2's second slot back. No need for dedicated FMCB. Also fixes large-card game incompatibility.

  15. 120hz gaming is freaking easy-mode. Why haven't I tried this sooner?

    1. Reaperman

      Reaperman

Caverns of Mars recharged, my PB fell on the very first 120hz game, and kept falling until I'm well into the top 100. If I pull the hdmi switch out, I should be able to get 1080p @240hz too.

  16. China doesn't seem to make a knockoff 2-way sanwa jlf restrictor. Circle, 4/8, octagonal, but no 2-way?

    1. Reaperman

      Reaperman

I just had to spend like $10 on a real one. This one's for a hopeless a1up galaga/'88 countercade that clearanced for $50 a few years ago, and is just...bad.

  17. Gaming in analog tonight--Heart of Ice adventure gamebook. Died in an elevator in northern Africa.

Upon further playthrough, it appears to be unwise to cross the post-apocalyptic frozen Sahara on foot. Not many HP left after that..

  18. With all this AI talk, the OTON console(s) aren't sounding as far fetched as they used to.

    1. Reaperman

      Reaperman

OTON-guy's not getting us there, but I'm guessing somebody will. I'm really paying attention to this AI Dungeon Master work. Depending on its tolerance for random player shenanigans, that could be almost a procedural text/audio adventure already. It's not hard to imagine prompts going into the code free 'construction kits' after that

  19. Wow, Megatouch units are expensive and nowhere near as numerous as I'd think they would be.

Every bar has (or had) one, but now they cost like a full arcade driving cab--including the freight on it.

    2. thanatos

      thanatos

Because they're all dying.  My local bar still has one, it just got fixed again in the past month or so.  The distributor told them next time it dies it's done for because there are no parts left.

  20. Every few years when I go on a Dreamcast kick, I always wonder why I play anything that's not Dreamcast.

    1. Clint Thompson

      Clint Thompson

I miss the Dreamcast games but I miss having friends that would come over to play them all with me more, as that's what made it one of the best gaming consoles of all time in my view. Those were the days... some 20 years ago now.... :: sigh ::

  21. Finally went for a Gekko Dreamcast HDMI adapter--I'm an instant BeharBros convert.

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I'll have to really check out my Dreamcast someday...I have one of those Pound HDLinks (Boo! I know,  but it works)...I have a VGA converter and 2,  count'em TVs with a VGA, maybe more actually (Yeaaaahhh Boyeee!), a RetroTINK 2X Pro (Yay!) and a RetroTINK 5X (WOOOHOOO!)

  22. I get my 3d shutterglasses out about every 5yrs, and it seems nvidia removed support for them years ago. I'm not doing old drivers.

    1. Reaperman

      Reaperman

I guess I'll need a ps3 or something to watch 3d movies or play the games. Brand new 3dTV too...

    2. bent_pin

      bent_pin

I had a Samsung cell phone with a 3D camera that was pretty awesome. I still have it tucked away in a box somewhere. I always wanted a Nintendo 3DS.

Yeah, I hate that as well.

  24. It stayed mostly dry, but hit 25 over night--New Orleans shuts down, and the news talks like it's the end times. ..I'm from WI.

Yeah, the homeland back up north it's been hovering between 0 and -3 today (I live between Green Bay and Milwaukee).  25 sounds like short sleeve weather right now.

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

We were -11 a couple of nights ago and today it was 25,...Felt pretty warm.

    4. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

^Comparatively I mean....Still not shorts and T-Shirt weather haha,  though I saw one kid going into the grocery store wearing those!  I think hat and jacket weather,  gloves if ya want to stay warm, but not layers on layers :)

  25. The price on those prebuilt aliexpress gbs-c scalers got too low for me to ignore. I don't think I could make one for that.

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Are they about $90 on there?  I actually saw one on eBay for just under $60!  Then again I'm pretty happy with my Retro Tink 2X Pro,  and I plan on buying the 5X next.

    2. Reaperman

      Reaperman

Yep, it looks like I payed $55, which seems great value. It's faster than my old framemeister and seems to have some different specialties. I'd held off on the tinks/osscs since I'm moving more toward FPGAs with HDMI over scalers, but for that price I couldn't resist. Some day I'd like one of those 4k tinks, but not for many years.
