  1. That's not really a problem just as long as you realize the Wii and Xbox 360 are superior systems except where they aren't. It's not even that having discussions/arguments about one system versus another is really that big of a deal. It's not - provided that's what the thread is supposed to be about. It just bugs me when someone starts a thread about one particular console and a specific issue with it, and the fanboys of another system swoop in to brag about their favorite system and derail the original top of the thread unnecessarily, and degrade it into a flame war.
  2. Best idea. It's hard to tell exactly why this thread was created, but I can tell by your responses it's probably more hypocritical nonsense. In my experience, blocking makes it so much easier to get along with some people. Watch..... Doing great my man, and how are you doing? How this kind of behavior doesn't warrant a banning or at least a "time out" is beyond me.
  3. I asked a general consensus question. I made no mention of your username at all. You outed yourself here. I was fine letting you keep your anonymity, and just asking the forum it's opinion on the subject. And it is a topic for this forum, because it pertains directly to conversations that take place in it, and it's subforums, beyond just yours. There are thousands of other posters here besides you. I have no interest in arguing with you. I told you as much in the PM you sent me, and then deleted when you didn't get the answer you wanted from me. And you might want to explain things correctly here. You PMed me to "call me out" in a sarcastic manner, for me telling you not to argue Xbox vs. PS3 in a thread I started. And then when I told you the same thing I said in the thread, you got all huffy with me, sent a nasty response, and then promptly deleted the PM trail and blocked me.
  4. I really liked the 3Do when I had it, and wish it had done better. It was a great idea, but just lacked the support that Sony and Sega and Nintendo had at the time. Particularly, the 3Do versions of: Return Fire Gex PO'ed NFS Road Rash Slayer Space Hulk Wing Commander III and a few others just overall look better and played nicer than their PSX counterparts. I never had a Saturn, so I can't really say how it compares. I'm actually getting back in the market for a 3Do now, since I recently found out about the ability to play games downloaded.
  5. It's not under maintenance. It was DDoS attacked. If Sony took it down willingly, there would be messages to reflect this when you bring up their sites in a browser. They got taken out, and this article and claim that it is down for "maintenance" is pure unadulterated bullshit.
  6. Playstation.com and affiliated sites have been down all over the net since yesterday. "Anon" (aka the 4chan hacking group) took them down.
  7. and oddly enough, when I logged on this morning I had a notification of another PM from the person I spoke about in the first post, but when I opened it I'm greeted with this message: ERROR:[#10275] You have been banned from this personal conversation. Nice job!
  8. Yep. You need a FIOS-type 25Mbps speed, minimum for any HD gaming content downloads (10-20GBs+) to be a viable platform. People won't wait 12-18 hours for a download on their shitty 3-6Mbps Cable/DSL connections. Nevermind the problem of download failures and possibly damaging the console/bricking it with broken download files. Maybe 10% of the US' home internet market even has this kind of speed availability, nevermind the cash to pay for it. You can't even Get FIOS in Boston/Cambridge Proper, and that's where a handful of the bigger gamproducing companies call their home these days. downloads work for handhelds, and dumbed down content. Not for a tru-Hd quality Next Gen console.
  9. So I recently had an odd encounter with another user here, and I think it warrants a larger discussion on forum ettiquette. We have console-specific subforums here in the modern gaming section, exactly for that purpose. To discuss the SPECIFIC systems those subforums pertain to. I personally think it's pretty childish to come waltzing into a thread in one forum, and start bragging about another system's features or abilities, or worse - comparing them as a means to incite a system vs. system flame war. It's just unnecessary, unless the thread subject specifically asks people for their opinion of the differences between the two. Is it just silly wishful thinking on my part to expect that here at Atariage, where the average user is probably at least in their 30's, if not their 40's, that maybe people could be above that kind of cheerleading, us vs. them mentality that seems to dominate all the forums on other sites that are geared mainly towards current gen systems (and their inherently younger userbase)? If I want to discuss the PS3, I do it in the PS3 forum, etc. Is that so crazy? Not every thread needs to be a PS3 vs. 360 vs. Wii fanboy flame war.
  10. Don't turn this thread into a fanboy pissing match. Talk about the xbox in the xbox forum.
  11. Except that movies on DVD and BluRay haven't dried up at retail locations. Just rentals. And although everyone ascribes that to Netflix, that's just a small part. The bigger component to the death of video remark stores was the significantly lower cost if owning DVDs.
  12. When the Ukraine was still part of the Soviet Union, it was never considered part of Europe. None of the USSR Nations were.
  13. OK, now I'm confused, $1000 to produce each? I can see hundreds, maybe $1,000 to produce/develop something, but not for each item. I don't get where the 9000 comes in. 9000*$100 = $900,000. You're kidding right? He said "over one hundred" people are wanting to buy this. which is true, but still an absolutely miniscule amount of people in teh grand scheme of doing a production run of these. If there are 100 people willing to buy it, and the price point is $100 per unit, then they will make an expected $1,000 in sales of it. This will cost WAY MORE than $1,000 to produce. Nevermind parts and research and development time, just getting a factory to do the production run of the final boards will likely cost over $1,000. This isn't something that they're making one by one in someone 's basement. and the "Over 9000!" thing - LOL. How long have you been on the internet? It's a joke. an Exaggeration. In fact, it's an OLD joke from a number of popular message boards taht I was pretty sure everyone on the internet would recognize.
  14. http://europa.eu/abc/european_countries/eu_members/index_en.htm Not part of the EU. Former soviet union member. Calling Ukraine a European country is like calling Honduras part of "America." because it's kind of near the US on a continent that has America in it's name.
  15. "Over 100 people" for a 1-time purchase is not a viable business opportunity for something as inexpensive as this will be. Over 100 people isn't even enough to justify a friggin' lemonade stand. No one here has a problem with paying for the product. It'll be worth every penny. But it's going to cost WAY more than $1000 to produce this in time and materials and production costs. When this happens it will be because batari has it ready, on his dime, and his schedule. OVER 100 PEOPLE. OVER 9000!!!! LOL.
  16. It was to prove a point, if he does not think making fun of the Xbox 360 for no reason effects people what if I make fun of the name of the console he prefers. He did it so why not other people. Plus I own both. this thread is almost a year old, and was bumped to the top by an incoherent troll. Just let it go.
  17. yep. Try opening it up, and touch the contacts for the switch together with the end of a metal screwdriver, and see if that jolts it on. That will tell you if it's the switch or not. If not, it's probably the voltage regulator. that's attached to the little metal heatsink behind the cart slot. Unfortunately, the VR is too close to the Cart guid outer cup, and the prongs from the Voltage Regulator can get broken as they constantly get bent back and forth from carts being wiggled around in the cart slot.
  18. Forgetting about God = abiding by ebay's rules. Therefore eBay is Satan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koovuH7zX48
  19. Oxidation on the power switch.
  20. this explanation only applies to those whom actually believe in such. There are a great many people whom have only been exposed to this concept in their adult life by people such as yourself. It's pretty difficult to prove peopl have forgotten something they've never known of in the first place. I think this is why such mentions bring scorn and ridicule. What you suggest assumes everyone has been raised in the same environment as you. There are 7 Billion people on the planet. Your particular chosen beliefs are shared by a relatively small minority of them. If you truly wish to escape scorn or ridicule for your chosen beliefs, then stop assuming your choices should be applied to everyone on the planet. Otherwise ridicule makes perfect sense, as what you suggest is, well, patently ridiculous.
  21. Why didn't you just buy it for his initial offer price, instead of waiting until the auction ended and didn't sell, and then pull a lowball offer? You lowballed him. Regardless of whet might have been said in emails, he doesn't owe you anything. Especially if someone else is willing to offer more, or at least what he originally asked for.
  22. If we could get MAME ported to the PS3/CFW, it's pretty much all I would play. I love all the Activision 2600 games, and non ports. But when I look at 2600 Stargate, or the Ladybug homebrew, It makes all those old ports pale in comparison.
  23. No corporation in the world is "happy" with being the 3rd tier in a market that only consists of 3 tiers (ok, 4 if you count PC gaming, but most don't). They have made their bed, and now they are laying in it. Nintendo has taken the family oriented customer base because they can't compete for the adult market. It's all they have left. But the Adult Male 16-40 market is the most profitable videogame market there is. They would LOVE to dominate that. But they cannot, without doing what Sony and Microsoft to - sacrificing profit on hardware sales for the software sales dividends.
  24. I don't know that it's a valid strategy now though. They've been rehashing characters and franchises for the better part of the last 25 years, and as a result they've languished in 3rd place with forgotten also ran consoles since the N64. The rose tinted viewpoint of Nintendos franchise characters doesn't really represent contemporary reality.
