  2. Because most people are lazy, and Nintendo employed a legacy underhanded corporate intimidation tactics, much like Coca-Cola and McDonalds before them, which damaged their competition's ability to do normal business enough to guarantee their brand identity became a household name, by means of forced attrition. It had nothing to do with the "quality" of their product. Every generation of console they've released has been technologically inferior to their competition in one way or another. They just ran out of marketing muscle when Sony entered the picture. yeah, those Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Ninja Gaiden, Kirby, Mega Man, Metal Gear, and Castlevania games were all pretty shitty, and never really caught on or nothin'... Nintendo would have never survived without their underhanded dealings.... None of those titles mean anything to anyone under 20 years old today, with the possible exception of Mario. Those who might recognize them are either 30+ year olds who frequent sites like this, or kids who say things like "Those are crappy old games my Dad/Uncle/Grandpa used to play a LONG time ago.

  4. Nah. Sony loves that date for some reason. That's the same day they disabled OtherOS last year.
  5. As far as I know, that there aren't any PS3 games in Disc form that require online activation - yet. PSN games - sure. Most of them do. But as long as they keep making Disc-based games I think we're good.
  6. It seems like they are saying they will reserve the right to remote-brick your PS3 for watching Squirty Titty porn, actually.
  7. Looks like the obvious answer right there. you will also permanently lose the use of PSN games you purchased that require an active account to run. They will refund your money in your PSN wallet. THEY WILL NOT REFUND THE MONEY YOU SPENT ON GAMES THEY WILL NOW TAKE AWAY FROM YOU.
  8. I've bought every game Bob has made for the 7800 from either the AA store or him directly. This version is excellent, and I would love to own it, but I am at a crossroads here, in that - I already own the non-pokey version, and I don't know if I plan on buying an XM. I'm waiting on more/better software support, and a more positive out outook for the XM's actual release date before I decide to go for it. It's really kind of a bummer if people who don't buy into the XM get excluded from owning this version of the game, especially since it doesn't feature anything that requires the XM to operate.
  9. The answer is in the atariage.com FAQ. http://www94.pair.com/jsoper/7800_gen_adap.html
  10. I don't pay close enough attention to this stuff to know whether or not you're exaggerating on Sony's "secret surveillance" activities, but it got me thinking. There's that poorly kept secret whereby people are buying PSN games and "sharing" them with up to 4 friends. I just recently started doing this. Should I be concerned? Only if you have some illegal/copyrighted data on your PS3 HD. Mostly the only people who should be concerned are those with pirated games and/or pirated or illegal movies/porn.
  11. Even if they did decide to dump it or push the next version out the door, is it really that strange? The Ps1 came out in 1995. The PS2 came out in 2000. The PS3 came out in 2006. At this point, it's already late, going by their previous release schedules.
  12. Firmware updates are futile, silly and dangerous, but I'm not sure it's such a bad spot Sony is in. From what I've heard they can detect a lot of the 3.55fw activity on PSN, and if they manage to ban improper PSN usage, they could make out fine. I haven't heard of any recent bannings though, and I do really wonder what is taking them. There are tools now out there that allow PSN access from CFW consoles, that also spoof/mask your console Id, so they can't ban you. It's the dog chasing it's proverbial tail at this point.
  13. And now there's a 3.60 spoofer that works on 3.55CFW. Cat/Mouse.
  14. The latest Sony PS3 SpyFirmware update adds the ability to save your game saves to "the cloud", i.e. on the PSN servers, so that you can access them from other PS3's besides the one your user account is tied to. It also adds some minor security malwareupdates that give Sony the ability to view every file on your PS3 Hard Drive and attached storage devices, and potentially file charges against you or sue you for anything it deems in violation of their EULA patch some of the holes that allowed users with Custom Firmware to play online and hack games. All Sony updates are mandatory to gain access to the PSN.
  15. Hyperbole, for humors sake. If I have to take video game message board discussions as serious business, it'll fell way too much like work.
  16. There have clearly got to be 50 different NES vs. 7800 threads on AtariAge that discuss this at length, Just do a search on it. Pretty sure his point was that the person he responded to couldn't substantiate them, whereas he seems pretty knowledgable in comparison. To put it politely, anyway....
  17. I tend to agree. I hate the NES with every inch of my soul, and am an Atari fan forever, but this place just chooses to selectively censor out opinions it doesn't like when someone gets sand in their vagina over it. His approach might be a little crude, but this place honestly needs a good shot in the arm once in a while. I hate having to tip-toe around certian users who will go crying to the mods because someone disagreed with them, or maybe made a joke at their expense. It's just video games, people. lighten up. It's ok to laugh at yourself, really.
  18. That really is pretty awesome, bob. I've got a dumb question - is it possible to rotate the playfield 90 degrees clockwise (or counter, doesn't really matter) so that it fits the entire screen on a standard NTSC display without needing to scroll? Because that would be pretty cool to try on a TV or Monitor that rotates.
  19. Whaaaat? After what demand? Demand to run Windows on a Mac? You could do that before with VirtualPC, SoftWindows, RealPC, etc. DOS and Windows capabilities go back at least as far as 1994 or so with PowerPC Macs that came with DOS cards. I've been a Mac user since 1996 and I've never heard of any demand to boot a Mac into Windows. The ability to boot into Windows (or any other Intel-based OS) came along with the Intel transition. The whole Boot Camp thing seemed more like a "why not?" feature than a "due to demand" feature. And no, it wasn't always the case that Macs could natively boot into any OS. How many PowerPC-based operating systems can you name? And how many of those were Mac users clamoring to boot into in the days before Intel? I'm about as ready to champion the efforts of non-pirate hackers as anyone but this thread isn't doing a service for anybody. The fail is strong. and those abilities like SoftWindows were never really usable for anything serious. Anything taht required any horsepower to run effectively was pretty much castrated. Clearly you never tried to run anything processor intensive on those "Fake Windows" Mac workarounds - like say, AutoCAD. So you're saying that Apple purposely limited their PowerPC processors so that Intel emulators would run slow? What exactly are you arguing here? I'm saying that those emulators were inherently slower, period. They were "emulating". It was like trying to run San Francisco Rush in MAME on a Pentium II with 64 megs of ram. And what does that have to do with the point you made earlier about Apple? I'm trying to make sense of your posts and all I'm getting is a tangent about emulators being slower than an actual processor. Thanks, I already knew that. I still want to know where this demand was to natively boot Windows and what other types of PowerPC-based operating systems you expected to boot into during Apple's PowerPC days. I know it wasn't Windows because as far as I know, there isn't a PowerPC Windows that exists. If you (or anyone else) expected a PowerPC Mac to natively boot Windows it was just not going to happen. And singling Apple out as this evil company that limits its OS choices during the PowerPC days is just silly. Like I said, name one other PowerPC-based operating system besides the classic Mac OS. This is important because what you said did not reflect actual reality or history. Nobody reasonably demanded a Mac to boot Windows during the PowerPC years. You're taking this thread way off topic. I get that you're an ardent Macophile. I don't want to turn this thread into another retarded "Mac vs. PC" argument, though it seems that's clearly what you'd like it to become. The fact is running emulated versions of any MS/Windows OS on the Mac was never a viable option for any sort of production work software. But the demand for certain industry standard software that existed on Windows that never got ported to Mac OS was Always there (See AutoCAD), in some industries much more than others. You personally may never have needed or wanted to run any Windows-only programs, but the demand was there. If you want to argue the benefits and pitfalls of PowerPC based hardware vs. Intel Based Hardware, have fun arguing with yourself. I'm not interested. It's a dead subject, much like the PowerPC hardware platform in general.
  20. Don't you mean cheating. Cheating is not the same as hacking I am up for homebrew, but cant stand pirates nor online cheaters All of this is where I stand too. ^^^ What I can't stand is all of the people who automatically associate Hacking = Pirate, and Hacking = Online Cheaters.
  21. you can build an adapter without needing to mod your actual controller. http://133fsb.wordpress.com/2010/05/08/sega-light-phaser-to-atari-xg-1-adapter/
