  1. Unlike most commercial transactions, the buyer is hardly ever in the right when the buyer is obsessive fetish/retro property collector. Psychotic obsessive whackos who can't wait for arrival of a frickin video game patch for a few days and insists in buying a second one "just in case" need professional help.
  2. I think these kinds of people are more commonly referred to as "assholes".
  3. Pac-Man Collection Centipede-TB Beef Drop Commando Joust Xevious Food Fight
  4. Wing Commander III and IV fir PS1 work fine on PS3. Return Fire PS1 does not work on a PS3, but it does work on the PS2 if you change the disc read setting from the default to "fast". That option doesn't exist in the built-in PS1 emulator in the PS3 firmware.
  5. I specifically made sure my parents got me the Coleco Gemini back in '83 because it came with Donkey Kong and Mouse Trap. Pac-Man and Combat were terrible.
  6. It also works in TB mode with Kenfused's Centipede-TB hack for the 7800.
  7. Just a note on the paddles incompatibility that was linked to my comments here: I tried everything, replaced every cap in the offending 7800, every resistor along the paddle lines to the TIA and nothing made the paddles work. But I have 2 other 7800 consoles where the same paddles work just fine. The only thing left woulf be to swap out TIA, but that's too much desoldering for me to bother with, since I have other fully functioning 7800 consoles.
  8. Just going by what we've seen publicly so far, this is the first upcoming XM title that actually looks like it's actually taking advantage of the XM, and not something that could feasibly have been done on the stock 7800. Looks Fantastic.
  9. Look at it this way: Do you want to enjoy your heavy sixer for what it was built for? (playing games) Or do you care more about how much money it is worth to some nutballs on the Internet? Play your games and enjoy them. Life is too short to put your toys on the shelf and brag about how much money they might be worth some day.
  10. If you go back and read through the Easier 7800 composite mod thread, you'll see where I noted that the 75ohm resistor isn't necessary, and not including it actually alleviates some ghosting on Pole Position II. Don't use it.
  11. Wow, really? There's like 3 threads already on the first page of the 7800 forum discussing 7800 video mods. You wouldn't even have needed to use the search tool.
  12. It is exactly the same as the mod a few of us collaborated on in the "easier 7800 composite video mod" thread here in the 7800 forum. Except he's charging $27.99 for what basically amounts to $5-$8 worth of parts you can buy at any Radio Shack or similar electronics parts store.
  13. I bought one of these from Jay, and I attest to it being top quality!
  14. The timing circuit doesn't exist in every model of 7800, and even if yours has one, removing it does not guarantee that your particular carts will work. Decathlon is one of the Actvision FE bank switched carts that has problems with the Dark Chambers circuit, but sometimes disabling the timing circuit isn't enough. On one of my 7800 consoles, I installed a momentary button switch in line with the circuit, so that when Decathlon boots up scrambled with a droning noise and multicolored screen, the trigger short-clears the charge in the circuit and allows Decathlon to boot. I also have an older revision of the 7800 where none of that circuit is present, and it is fully compatible with all of the problematic 2600 games. My personal opinion on that Longhorn mod is that it pretty much stinks, especially considering you need an extra button to alleviate the interference. The much cheaper and easier to install "easier 7800 composite mod" that a few if us here at AA collaborated on, produces the same if not better image quality, for about 1/8 the cost, and takes all of 15 minutes to install. No removing ICs or complicated de-soldering required. Also, there is more than one thread detailing how the Longhorn mod has a history of showing up DOA, or producing black and white only when in 2600 mode, with wildly varying quality depending upon the 7800 motherboard revision it is installed on.

  16. "This site is called Atariage for a reason." What reason would that be? There's quite a few subforums already here for non-Atari systems; I'm sure you already know this. The "other forums" out there aren't very good, hence why I'm bringing this up here. Where would you get the idea that the threads here "aren't to my liking"? I understand we're typing on a forum so perhaps I'm reading into your response but it seems you have a problem with the idea of an NES section, so you're stating your opinion. The Classic Gaming Forum is great too. One of the reasons I thought a subforum would be a good ieda would be to discuss the NES High Score Club games. And again, there's a lot of other systems with their own subforums (Coleco, Genesis, Inty) so I thought it would be a valid question. But ya never know, maybe an NES subforum would be just as dead as the Genesis subforum (not that I know that for a fact, I don't go there for the same reason you might not bother with the NES subforum). I thought perhaps a mod or somebody official might make a post to add their thoughts. Since I don't know who that is, perhaps somebody could point me in the right direction? My only point was that you're already allowed to make NES related threads, right here in this forum. To be honest, I don't really see the point of any subforums for other systems that aren't Atari. I would shitcan all of them if I were running the board, out of principle. Also - I'm aware that other NES forums pretty much suck. I'd like to keep it that way, and let them stay right where they are, attracting all the lameness and keeping it from posting on Atariage.
  17. This site is called AtariAge for a reason. There are other forums on the net dedicated to Nintendo. Go post on them if the threads here aren't to your liking. You could make the same argument for a dedicated subforum for any of Ataris competitors. There is no need. This general Classic Gaming forum is more than enough.
  18. This, plus the Sega 3D games won't work on LCD or Plasma either.
  19. Yes, there absolutely was a crash. Crash doesn't mean "end". It means the market bottomed out for a time, which, by 1984 the home video game console absolutely did bottom out. Part of it was the glut of terrible games and over speculation on potential sales which lead to manufacturing of way more product than there was a demand for (ET and Pac-Man are prime examples of it. Part of it was the home computer market gaining a stronger foothold. Some of it was just plain lack of consumer interest due to so much garbageware being released. The bigger part of it was the US' economic downturn during the early Reagan years.
  20. The release dates had nothing to do with it. It was the volume of unsold merchandise sitting in warehouses and waning consumer interest that caused the crash. These games were the two biggest financial flops.
  21. I notice you keep using the word "irrelevant" every time I bag you making things up to justify your opinion. LOL. Demonstrating when someone is flat-out lying is always relevant. It points to motive. I like the Coleco Gemini design better. I detailed why I like the differences. I'm sorry you're taking my opinions of a 30 year old hunk of plastic and cheap electronics so personally. You really don't have to embellish so much.
  22. It looks like a toilet. A cheap, 70's themed toilet with a horribly out of place woodgrain bezel. Nothing on it looks industrial, because it's quite clearly made of cheap plastic molds. The grille was supposed to be for the originally intended internal speakers, which they cheaped out on, but left the grille because changing it would cost too much. the switches are not solid, but cheap, hollow, off the Radio Shack shelf switches. It's tacky, "of the era" crap. It's the BellBottom pants of Video Game console design. It may as well be tie-dyed, or paisley.
  23. It looks like a toilet. It's got the raised tank part in the back and the "grill" area looks like a toilet seat with the cover down, except someone put a corduroy cover on it. It doesn't look like a gaming system. Putting the cart slot at an odd angle makes it look stupid. The Gemini is simple and elegant. The VCS looks like some bad 70's interior designer's furniture nightmare. I'm surprised it doesn't have other tacky looking features like backlight lettering or a string of beads in front of the cart slot, like it was stolen from Greg Brady's "Johnny Bravo" bedroom. Atari figured it out with the 5200 and 7800, style-wise. But the VCS just looks like a bunch of Madison Avenue advertising execs in 1976 all came up with it on a cocktail napkin, trying to please everyones ugly 70's living room design sensitivities. Terrible.
