And I'm sure you'll take this as arguing with you personally (it's not, just a general view of things), but I disagree with at least part of this. My take: Simply put, as you already pointed out, we're all adults here and owners of many systems. I'd guess that most people here are at least 30 years old, but none younger than 21, and most in their late 30's. That being said, I don't really understand what's the point of all the post editing, post deleteing, running off crying to the mods when someone says a bad word, etc. It's like this place is full of a bunch of 9 year olds who run crying to mommy when faced with opinions that clash with their own, or they hear something they don't like. And c'mon, the whole "You said a bad word, you're in TROUBLE!!!" bit is just plain ridiculous. Last time I checked, this isn't a Religious board, or some arbiter of good moral example. We're Video Game fans, fer Christ's Sake! We like Violence, blowing shit up, violent movies, and yes, even speak with ....*gasp*.... SWEAR WORDS!!! (Oh No! NOT THAT!) I'm all for moderation when necessary, i.e. obvious spammers, people posting porn, viruses, unwanted advertising, or other stuff that might get some people fired at work or what have you. But It's clearly obvious that lots of people who post here never really outgrew being the no friends having tattle tale, hall monitors they were in middle school, and relish in the fact that they have found an outlet to still get people in TROUBLE for doing things their mommy said were bad. As far as the fanboy part - I really don't see the negative connotation of it. The only people who really see that word as a negative are those who are insecure about their personal choices and opinions. I'm an unabashed Atari Fanboy, which is why I'm here. I never owned, nor wanted to own an Intellivision, Colecovision, or Nintendo products. I'm also a pretty devout Sega fan, of both the Master System and Genesis/Sega CD/32x. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, or talking a little smack to amuse ourselves and pass the time on here. It's like Sports. Sports Fans talk smack, and one up each other to pass the time, and get a few laughs. It's all in fun, and nobody gets hurt, it's just part of the game. But people here (and on many other message boards) get all riled up and DEADLY SERIOUS about people saying things they disagree with. Childishly. They are completely devoid of a sense of humor, in general, but more importantly - about themselves. It's too bad. This place could be a lot more fun and a lot less like the Church of Atari prayer meeting and moral fiber gathering if people would just lighten the fuck up once in a while.

Install the custom firmware, pronto, and get all the classic emulators out there. They are 1,000x better than any of the commercially released classic compilations. Dungeon Siege Throne of Agony is pretty great. Ace Combat X is good but short. GTA Vice City Stories is awesome. Chili con Carnage is lost of fun. FF Crisis Core is ok. MGS portable is awesome.

None. Read back in the thread. The format of cart that would support these doesn't exist as a commercially released board.

My only point was that MS never promised 100% BC Underball, that was it. I wasn't defending anybody, there wasn't an arguement, and it wasn't.... it was simply stating fact fella. I wont comment on the point you attempted to insert into this thread, because frankly after reading your posts about mostly 12 year olds playing video games and then contradicting yourself by saying not many people assumed the 360 would be 100% BC, it's more confusing than the statement MS made in regards to BC to begin with. BTW : Based on the poll. Neither MS nor Sony really came through on BC this generation. The bigger question is, does anyone care so much? If the next round of consoles came out and they weren't BC at all, would you still purchase them? So what you're saying is - video game players aren't mostly kids, and pretty much everybody expected the 360 to be 100% BC. Ok.

So basically you think when a company like MS makes a statement about their product, it really doesn't matter how it's worded, because in your mind all 18 million+ of the 360 sold were sold to parents who spent $400-$500 on a system because their kid told them too not because they had a clue what they were buying in spite of any statements that were made, confusingly worded or not. I agree with you, something is retarded here. I never said that. but it's cute that you try to shape the argument for your point. The 360 is Backwards compatible with most original X-Box games. It's not 100% compatible with every game. The percentage of people buying a 360 based on the ASSUMPTION that it was 100% backwards compatible is small enough that any collateral damage they caused in losing customers, by not spending the money on being explicit about which games were compatible or not, was a calculated loss. Plus I'm sure they had much more pressing concerns. Like fixing the 3 million units that got returned to them for the red ring of death. the fact is, when they release a new system, they're counting on millions of dollars of "blind sales", and not worrying about the few 1000 who might get pissed off because their import copy of Cho Cho Ribaan Devastating Cereal Warriors or whatever other miscellaneous old game might not work with their new 360. I'm not saying this practice is Ok, mind you. I'm just saying this is the kind of half assed R & D we should All expect from huge companies like Microsoft and Sony when they are trying so hard to bring their product to market before the "other guy".

And this shows a flaw in the parents of today. I am not really talking about them not knowing every detail of the product they are buying for their kid. I am talking about them buying their kids whatever they want. as opposed to 30 years ago when they did the same thing for us with Atari.

Their parents do. do you think their parents really read up on which system has the best rate of backwards compatibility? Of course not. they buy the kid what he/she wants, and barely look at the packaging.

The only part of this thread I don't understand is why someone would defend either Microsoft or Sony for their half-assed backwards compatibility attempts, using "well you just read their statements wrong, it's your fault" as the excuse. This is just plain retarded. Kids don't read press releases. Kids don't pay close attention to the wording of cleverly ambiguous advertising. But it's mostly kids who end up playing these systems. Both companies released consoles with Backwards compatibility. Neither of them are 100% backwards compatible. Some are worse than others. Telling some 12 year old kid "you should have paid better attention to Microsoft/Sony's press release. They specifically said "A" but really meant "B" is just plain foolish. Stupid.

A new version that works with SDL might benefit the PSP port. As it is, it's great, but there are a couple of games that run a little slow, and the sound is scratchy/static-y. Any updates to the Best 7800 Emulator available are always welcome.

I believe it's called a non sequitur. How do you arrive at that? as it is a thread about games you would like to see but were never made. This kind of qualifies. Too bad they never made the actual arcade game. the thread is about which ARCADE games you would like to have seen ported to the 7800. Not which crappy graphical hacks of already ported arcade games have you bought lately.

This is true. Chad is nothing but a gentleman. Sometimes it's hard to remember that these boards/Carts are out of production for quite a while, and that even when they were being made, Chad wasn't exactly soldering them all by hand. I just didn't know if maybe there was a shortcut he knew about for that particular chip.

Actually the PSP is just different to the DS, I have both, and enjoy both, although for original games the DS is my favorite , but the PSP wins on emulation- although that is not brilliant in many cases If the PSP had a keyboard to use on the interweb instead of soooo many key presses, and a paddle controller it may become my favorite The Targus infrared keyboard works great on the PSP.

Maybe this sounds like a dumb question, but did you ask Chad Schell if you can send it back to him for repairs, for a nominal fee?

Anybody else notice anything fishy here? The article's headline and content are clearly slanted as an anti Blu-Ray/Sony story, yet TOSHIBA is one of the companies named in the complaint. So does that mean that HD DVD was also benefiting from infringed patented technology, or that the article's writer has a bent against Blu-ray, and worded the Headline and story content intentionally misleadingly when it in reality probably has nothing to do with blu-ray, but rather it does with specific diodes that are used in all manner of consumer electronics? Nothing worse than sadly biased yellow journalism and corporate hype.

Right. And Bill Gates said PCs would never need more than 640K... 2400 BPS modems is all you'll ever need. And you'll never want a bigger hard drive than 340 meg... None of the current Home internet providers can supply bandwidth capable of Blu-Ray quality audio and video, dedicated solely for on-demand video content. They won't be able to for at least 8-10 years. By then, Blu-ray will already be on it's way out in favor of another medium. I'd much rather watch high quality HD movies now, than grump and groan about "this evil corporation", or "that overpriced box", and sit on my hands while watching inferior quality standard DVD/HD-DVD. But again, that's what I'd like to do. Everyone else cna do whatever they like. It's a free country.

I'm not sure it never will, but it would probably accurate to say it will never match the capacity of whatever the current distributable media happens to be. exactly. it'll always be a horse race. And lots of people collect movies on physical media. Of course blu-ray won't be the defacto home video standard until HD is the standard TV format. and that won't happen until HDTV's are at really low prices. Today, any halfway decent HD set will cost you at least $1000. Until that gets to under $400, HD will always be a niche product, as will Blu-Ray. AND THAT'S JUST FINE. to be honest, I prefer it that way. It means quality control over releases will be much great than it will once Mass adoption takes hold. I don't mind paying more for a far greater quality release. Some people do care more about the cost, than the quality. To each, his own. But in the niche market of HD content, Blu-Ray will be king, until the next physical media format comes along, especially where high-end quality video/audio is concerned. And that won't be for at least another 10 years. I got 10 years enjoyment out of DVD. I'll get 10 years out of Blu-Ray. Seems reasonable, to me at least.

Video on demand does not now, and will never carry enough bandwidth to supply Blu-Ray quality HD video and uncompressed 7 channel Audio. Blu-Ray is a format for Home Theater nuts and audio/videophiles. On Demand if for those who can't tell the difference between HD at 1080i/p and DVD at 480p with crappy. lossy 5.1 DD sound.

Sirius' graphics are flat out awesome. Plutos graphics are nearly as awesome, and it plays really well. But yeah - the lack of background music is a bit distracting on both, and the ridiculously impossible difficulty level of Sirius makes the game fairly unplayable. Really cool to have though. Now if someone can dig up a near-complete version of 7800 Crystal Castles, I'd be a happy man.

The Prices didn't go "Up". They were at sale prices during the holidays and post holiday sales. Now they are back to normal. this happens with EVERY consumer electronics product on the market.
