Hi Everyone
Thanks for all your help. I would love to be able to talk to Bob Brown who has the oldest Atari.
I guess he not going to be coming up here, but it would still be nice to talk to him. I would love to know
The Serial number off his unit since it was the First one ever made. I still thank everyone else for all your
help on this subject.
I actually now found some of the Photos of my unit on the bottom. I will try and get tops photos later.
sorry the last photo shows the date code inside of my Atari 2600
7722 for 1977 in the 22nd week Look at the Post below for pictures of the insides and The top of the system.
Thanks

Hi Everyone
I was told Bob Brown had the Very first Atari off the Production Line. I was wondering if Bob would be willing to
let us know what his Serial Number is??? I would love to be able to talk to this Bob Brown.
Anyways I understood that the First Letter Atari used on the Heavy Sixers was "E" then they went up from there..
My Serial number is 57020 E Now I have another one that has a serial Number followed by the Letter "G"
Anyways I was told the go in Alphabetical order following the serial number.
Such as E , F , G , H , , J ,K ,L ,M and so on. on the letter "I" was skip due to it being mistaking for the number 1
Now From what I was told BOB Brown has the Oldest and First Atari off the Production line ever.
Well here is some photos of mine. Also Please let me know on this . I heard there was going to be a second and official
list of Serial numbers made up.. When is this being done????

Hi This is Sean39
Please download this photo of the Chip inside of my Sears Tele Game Pong System and let me know
if this would be the chip found in a Early unit with the Serial number A 60186 . The date code shows 7537
which would be 1975 in the 37 week...
I know my other init has a serial # A 90371 and has a chip that dated in 7540 for 1975 in the 40th week.
The chips both have different appearances.. Anyways Just thought this may help in this really strange mystery
Why they appear so different.
You will have to download the picture of the chip to see it
Thanks Sean39

Hiya Sean,
I read it here, too, but also have no answer why. All I can think to say is sloppy coding of the dates/chips, lack of quality control in that area of things.
Or...
That particular unit was made from older stock of chips that were ready to be used after the case was made, and the chips were brought back out, many years later.
Hi Nathan
Well what does not make sense is the Serial Number is very low on the Unit and I know they went in order with the Serial
numbers when producing theses things.
I posted one with the Serial # A 90371 and it has a Chip 3659-2 7540 date
Now my other unit has a Serial # A 60186 and it has a Chip 3659-3 7537 date code ( This is reall strange)
The only thing I can guess is that the 3659-3 stamp should have been a 3659-1 with the 7537 date code on it.
The only reason I say this is the Date code correspond to the time of the Serial number.
A 90371 7540
A 60186 7537
Really the date code is correct for the Serial number.
Thanks

Hi Everyone
Well I was hoping someone could tell me why a 3659-3 chip was in such a old unit.

Here is a photo of a early 2600 prototype. http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2007/09/28/atari-2600-vcs-30yea.html

Very cool picture of the proto type of the 2600 system.

Hi Everyone
Thanks For the Help on this. Sorry I was out so long, but got sick. Anyways yes I think the only way to truly date these units
is to date them by the Chips inside of them. They have date code on every chip inside the unit and even the RF Modulator has a date code
on it. Mine does not have a hole for switching the Channel since it only will work on one Channel. There is no switch inside of mine to
change the channel.
Anyways the date code found inside of my unit is 7722 Which breaks down to 1977 in the 22 week of the year.
Serial number is E 57020
Other than that I really cannot tell you much more.
Thanks Sean39

Hi Sly DC
I read what you put up and it makes alot of Sense. How do we explane the Sears Tele Game Pong Unit I have.
It has a 3659-3 Chip Dated 7537 and it you look at my attachments you will see this. The Serial Number on the unit is A 60186
Which is lower than the first unit I posted in the first place... This really does not make any sense at all. I know the lower
the Serial number the older the unit should be and the chip does date older. It just strange it a 3 generation chip.
Please help on this

Hi everyone
Ok please take note of the Serial number and the date on the chip. Date on Chip is 7537 look very close.
What I don't get is that it has a 3659-3 chip inside. I am just wondering how a third version of the Chip can have
such a old date on it and it in a lower Serial Number unit.
It really makes no sense at all since you would think it would have a 3659-1 chip with a Date code of 7537 on it..,but instead a 3659-3 with
date code of 7537 on it. I told you this would blow your mind.
Have any answers to this one because I would like to sure know how a version 3 chip has such an old date on it.
Serial # A 60186 Super low for a serial number lower than the last one I posted up here.

Hi everyone
I guess this thread was really no good to start. I see many people read it but no was able to help me with thos question.
Anyways thanks for reading it at least... I really hope there is someone who can help me with my question.
Thanks
Sean
Hi Sean,
About the serial, that i can't answer since i don't make records of any serials of Dedicated Pongs.
But as for the dedicated chip you took in a picture, that one is the second version (-2).
There is 3 models of the "3659" that i know: "3659-1 or 3659-1B or 3659-1C" (1st version), "3659-2" (second version)
and "3659-3" (3rd version found only in the Sears Tele-Games Pong IV model 99717. Some are made by
Synertek or AMI and can be in plastic or ceramic casings. All version of dedicated chips are the same,
even the 3659-3 which people thinks it's a 4-player version of the 3659-1 and 3659-2 which is not true,
all 3659 version can either be a 2 or 4 players version (this info is not written anywhere, just
found it by myself). The earliest "3659" i know (so far) is dated 7538 (1975 - 38th week).
Hope this helps you out.

--- Sly DC ---
Thanks I have a really old Sears Tele Game System, and it will blow your mind on the chip date.
It still comes no where close I think to the first one made but it is very early. I will post pictures of it up here. It has a chip older than 7538
in it.

Mine is not a Double Sticker but I thought those were transistion units from the Heavy Sixers to the Light Sixers. I could be wrong and if I am please correct me. Everyone mentions they were silver stickers and the newer Atari's used the Silver boxes too,so I am really not sure.
There are two kinds of double sticker units. Those with an original-style white sticker covering a second original-style white sticker, and those with a silver sticker covering an original-style white sticker. I don't think there's any question that the silver sticker units represent refurb units, but it's unclear what the double white sticker units represent. I don't believe that they are refurb units. I also don't believe that they are transitional units from the period between the H6 and L6. I have one of these double white sticker H6s and it doesn't have a channel select switch hole, which I would expect on a transitional unit from this period. Moreover, it appears that the early light sixers (those produced in Sunnyvale) retained the s/n format of the H6's during that transition. That transition appears to have occurred within the M to P batch serial numbers, and as far as serial numbers go, this transition appears to have been a smooth segue with both H6 and L6 units produced with M, N, and P batch serial #s.
Ok mine is only one sticker. Made in Sunnyvale,CA with SN 57020 E...
Now are these double Stickers in Heavy Sixers older than this Unit?
I am really new to knowing how this whole Serial number thing works. I know my unit has a Date code inside of ot from
7722 and I was told that was 1977 at the 22nd week. Now I know I was told there are units older than mine.
How much befire my unit were they making these things. I also wanted to know did the Serial numbers Start out with a "E" following them all???
Anyways I would love to find a unit that older than mine with a much older Serial Number.
Anyways I am open to being educated on this.

Hi everyone
Ha ha th Dating comments. Ok back to all Serious note. Some of the Early Atari Pong system had letters following
the Serial numbers also. Then others had the letter before the Serial number . I have one Atari Pong System and the Serial
number is A 90371.
Why Atari Choose the Letter "E" after the serial number not sure. I am really wanting to know what the First
Serial number was used on the Atari 2600 systems too.
Mine is not a Double Sticker but I thought those were transistion units from the Heavy Sixers to the Light Sixers.
I could be wrong and if I am please correct me. Everyone mentions they were silver stickers and the newer Atari's used the Silver
boxes too,so I am really not sure.
I was hoping to find someone who knew for sure on this issue.
Thanks

I have a dual sticker unit that has a serial number in the 17000's, I will have to check the date code on that when I get home (which will be a few days). I believe Bob Brown owns the first VCS off the assembly line, so you may be able to ask him what the serial number is.
Ho Do I get a hold of Bob to talk to him??

Hi Everyone
Look I am very interested in finding out one thing. Atari Started making these Atari 2600 system in 1977.
Ok I have Serial number 57020 E with a date code inside of it that say 7722 which is 1977 in the 22nd week.
My question is to everyone and even the ones who worked at Atari also. What Serial number did Atari Start out with on the First Unit??
I know there had to be Heavy Sixer Units made before mine, but I have not seen any listed yet,but the number 57020 E tells me there
had to be many units before mine. It seems that the all the First 2600 units all had the Letter " E " following ther serial number.
I know this is a hard question to answer but really what was the first Serial number that was made or sold?????
I have wondered this for a very long time. Also since the first units were sold in 1977 did the first unit actually have
any chips in side of them with a date code like 7650 or in that range...
My serial number is 57020 E and it has date codes 7722 if we go back on the Serial numbers then the chips have to get older
with earlier date codes. So did the first 1977 machines actually have some Chips produced in 1976 inside of them?????
I mean the parts could be made before the unit even hit the market in 1977, and ther could be a possibility of having 1976 chips
in side of these units that were first sold in 1977. I talking about the very first Atari 2600's ever sold. Maybe like the first
100 units may have older parts than 1977 in them.
It only a thought.
Thanks

Hi
Here is a photo of the Date code. On this machine.
Sean
Here is the Date code found in my unit with the Serial number 57020 E
What is the date code found in the unit that in the oldest slot?
I am just currious. I am not saying it not the oldest but it would be nice to know the date code found in the unit or on the
actual computer chips.
I would love to see more older units show up. Because it made me think what has happen to all the machines that had older Serial
numbers.
Sorry Post 832 shows a photo of the date code found on my unit.
Thanks Sean
-
Hi it me Sean
I will put up some pictures of the bottom and later Pictures of the entire unit. I am still working on
getting everything set up on this computer. I hope these will show what you were looking for. I will post
some real good pictures of the entire unit one all my software has been installed.
Thanks Sean
Please show me a older Serial number. I know a new list is being made up. Also on the old list does anyone
have a date code found on the unit that place as the oldest one. I know most the units have a Serial number
followed by the Letter " E "... The unit shown does not that is placed as the oldest unit.
Sorry Post 826 show photos of my unit Serial number

Seems like the thread acts like the list now.
What would be nice is a php form where one could select the model of the console, the origin, and post said serial, with pictures, maybe, as a form of master database. That would be cool.
Good idea! I could whip that app out in no time. I will do up a prototype UI, ask for feedback, refine, and so on. I'll post a new thread with link when done.
I've already got this done and just need to fine tune it a bit, then pass it over to Al... long live the heavy sixer list

Hi it your Friend Sean
I see you turn the list over.. This list is getting confusing to me. I know at one time I held the oldest unit with the Serial Number
57020 E and the Date Code of 7722 for 1977 in the 22 week..
So did I loose that now. Did someone find an older heavy Sixer unit.
Sean

Hi Everyone
I was wondering. I have already Posted Pictures in earlier Post. This is now getting confusing. I was
Wondering Withe the Serial #
57020 E
Do I still have the earliest unit with the Date code of 7722
Which is 1977 in the 22nd week.
If someone does have an older unit which Serial number is it and what date code is on the unit???
Also if possible who has it?

HI Everyone I noticed a lot of people read the post but had no comments or anything to say.
I really need some help with this. I know Atari started making Pong systems for Sears before
they even put one out under their name. Does anyone know when Atari started to do this??? Also
does anyone have a an older Serial Number on their Tele Game Unit??? Surely This cannot be the
oldest one around.
Please help thank you very much Sean

Hi Everyone
I have been up here before and on other Forums. I need to know one question .. When Atari First Started to make the Pong
systems for Sears in 1975 under the name Tele Games What serial Number did they start out at???
I have seen many of the White Color Tele Game Pong Systems. I have one with the Serial # A 90371
Now on the Chip in side is the Date code 7540..
Now is 1975 in the 40th week.... Has anyone come accross an older Serial number and Date code on the inside Chip???
I just thought it the A 90371 actually stands for the 90,371 unit made what happen to all the units made befor this one.
Any help would be great
Thanks Sean

Hi Everyone
Thanks for the Info. The one with the Clear ribbon and Green Board is Serial # 57020E..
Which if you look at the Heavy Sixer List this unit would fall into being the Oldest one on the List.
The First one on the List makes no sense since Atari Followed their Serial numbers with the Letter E on
The First Heavy Sixers made in 1977..

Hi I have two different Power Adapters. I know the second one in the Photos is usually found in the Heavy Sixer Sets.
Can anyone tell me anything about the First Power Adapter. It made in California but just not the same place as the Decks were made. LOS GATOS,CA Also I notice in the top left corner it says Pat Pend..Which means Patend Pending.
Was this so early that Atari was waiting on the Patend???
Not Sunnyvale,CA where Almost the early Heavy Sixers were made.
Any info would be a huge help..

Hi now that that is back out. I have a Machine that has the Serial number 57020 E very old Machine.
I wish I could find the ones my father talked about. They were suppose to be all pulled out of the Stores in 1977.
Here the machine I am talking about in 1977 the Stores displayed Atari CX-2600 but they did not work on Channel 2 or 3.
They hook to a small black square looking monitor. These Atari machine actually use composite Video and sound.
They would hook up to the small size monitor and give a much clearer picture than the ones you bought. Well Atari pulled
them out of the Stores and I do not know if any did survive. they do exist if Atari did not destroy them.
This info came from my dad. I do have all the first 9 cartridge realease in 1977 with the numbers on the end lables.
The ones you do not see much more of. I also have a pair of CX-10 joy sticks in mint Condition as well for the Paddles.
Well I know this should be on the Atari 2600 area. Now that not all I have I have a original Atari 400,800,130XE
all in wonderful working condition.
I have much more but it would take for ever to list it all.
I just wanted to get back up here and make some good friends. 1983 my father went to the east cost after Atari had their
problems I will say. My dad started to work for an electronic company in Viriginia and eventually went to work for Raytheon Corp.
Anyways I saw pretty cool electronics from atari growing up. I am now up in age but that ok.
I was 9 when they started to work on the 2600 and by the time they hit the store I was very close to 10 years of age.
I thought they hit the store in October of 1977. Not sure it so long ago that my memory not that good anymore.
Special note those machines ith composite Video and Sound were for store Displays only and were never sold.
Now you can see how rare they would be if you found one.
