c64 dropzone is identical to a8. except rgb color values. on the other hand the only existing Turrican clone demo is half the speed and double as ugly as the c64 vers. yes, double as ugly, half as fast. there's the problem. No Manfred Trenz on the Amiga-> Turrican on the Amiga No Manfred Trenz on the Sega-> Turrican on the Sega No Manfred Trenz on the Pc-> Turrican on the PC No Manfred Trenz on the Famicom-> Turrican on the Famicom

This fact is repeated frequently and should be clear to everyone. The question is, whether Oswald somewhere in time get this into his brain. The Atari got less interested by software developers: It's all about marketing. you should get this fact into your brain: dont criticise a game your machine (assuming a very very good programmer) can only do in half speed and double as ugly as the c64

technically the a8 is just as different as any 8 bit machine from the era. I see nothing in the HW that would need some years of studying, everything is pretty straightforward. just look at the games. that'll explain.
-
c64 atleast HAS drop zone,& headoverheels, the quality is just slightly worse. BUT how do you even dare to bring up TURRICAN, it DOESNT even EXISTS ON the A8, so what do you want to say my dear ?
-
wow the c64 managed to get some guys so pissed off not owning it, that they spend their time by creating homepages against it? going as far to collect 64 abusive facts? I have doubts the guy writing that is totally normal

Was this comment really necessary? How do you think insulting FastRobPlus in any way contributes positively to this thread? It doesn't. Further comments of this nature from anyone will result in immediate removal from the 8-bit forum. If you can't discuss this topic in a rational manner, then please stop posting in it. Thanks, ..Al iirc I have already reported this FastRobPlus guy for personal insults. yet he is here.

most shitty review of a keyboard ever...: 1. look at your pc keyboard, do you see 2-3 symbols on the keys on the top face to them ? now tell me that is NOT VISUALLY CONFUSING?? the c64 has the extra symbols on the front face of the keys. VISUALLY CONFUSING MY ASS. 2. for example on the pc the home key sats directly beside the INSERT and the PAGE UP button, not possible to make an accidental hit? gimme a break. 3. unusually large number of nonstandard keys? my ass. run/stop, shift lock, restore, that makes THREE. 4. c64ers used joysticks to play games because a) they had joysticks, b) most games didnt handle keyboard.

there were basic extensions out, the best one being: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_BASIC it had supported all what the c64 could do, going as far as having a built in sprite editor, and commands to automagically move/animate sprites do music, scroll the screen, besides the "usual" line, circle, etc, etc, etc. it could even do split screen modes (hires from 10 -> text mode till row 10 then hires bitmap mode)

Levels have to be loaded from disk. Would you want to wait 20 minutes for loading a single level? I could bet that they made it smaller to save loading time. And perhaps they spent a lot of money for the soundtrack. The C64 one's beats the Arcade by far. "There is an interesting story behind Commando. I went down to their office and started working on it late at night, and worked on it through the night. I took one listen to the original arcade version and started working on the c64 version. I think they wanted some resemblance to the arcade version, but I just did what I wanted to do. By the time everyone arrived at 8.00am in the morning, I had loaded the main tune on every C64 in the building! I got my cheque and was on a train home by 10.00 am..." (RH)

the c64 IO speed never bothered me, because I didnt knew better. I couldnt eve imagine not even for god's sake it can be faster. that was normal, like the sky is blue on to the usual nitpicking: - dos2.5 and mydos doesnt sounds like out of box doses which you picked on the c64 side to compare with "I never figured out how to .. on the C64 because there was no official DOS." huh? there was. &RTFM. yes it sucked "another issue was, that I got after a while extremely bored by the repeating style of most of c64 games." frankly I dont believe someone as a kid can get EXTREMELY bored of c64 games in the mid 80s. in a few weeks.

I wonder why nearly all atarians had c64/128, but almost no 64er has a8 ?

it was an answer to this: "Not to mention it's an Atari site, do any of us go to Lemon64 and start arguments?" Your foul language was long before that, nice try, go back to Lemon64, maybe they will like you better there. I suspect they are quite happy we're keeping him occupied over here. dont think it matters to them, as I post like every 3 month there.

I wasnt talking about foul language, I was talking about who started this argue. and no lemon64 is not my hangout site.

ok, conversions dont count. it makes no sense, as the winner would be who will make a batch converter and can convert faster.... that makes like 200-250 on the a8 side max. I assume several hundred pix are converts aswell, as the a8 gfx scene has not enough ppl to handdraw so many I guess...
-
mmm... when comparing the activity of the communities its not enough.
-
csdb has a very nice search system. and some ppl are doing nothing but upping everything from present and past. and no I will not restrict this comparison to games. tho even so the c64 has more, but that doesnt show the whole picture, the c64 community concentrates on scene stuff. with 779 releases you dont dare to tell me its dying, then tell me how much a8 overall has...
-
779 games? 779 everything. how much anything for the a8 was released this year? remember we're doing this comparison because some1 claimed the c64 is dying, because it has hardly releases. well its not
-
no, there's no horsepower. only some demos has such pictures. such a spritelayer also kills also about 30% cpu power. using 4 colors in an iso game is a better idea imho
-
thx, I get the artefacting stuff. I saw it on the c64 aswell, but it was a subtle and unstable effect. more weird stuff: on some machines&CRTs when you type ++++ in a weird color combo you will get on the screen ><><><><

I'm interested in the details (really!) I'd say its just anding with a bitmask. the "scrolling" is well, not really a scrolling albeit cool "cheat"
-
allas, You searched for: Releases matching: Released between: 1 January 2008 and 1 January 2009 Found: 779 matches. 779 screenshots would be a bit too much to include here
-
arent speccy iso games using masks to allow sprites to appear to go behind objects ? I see no difference. and what have depth sorting and moving objects have to do with the definition of isometric projection anyway ? wow! would love to hear the whole story about it, and your insights of the c64 engine. care to open a new thread ?
-
hmm, but on the a8 its used to achive some kind of gfx effects ? what kinds? on the c64 it wasnt used to do this.

unlike atariski I am not trying to proove that 2+2=5. I admit happily koronis rift is better I am enjoying how he is trying to make 2+2 equal to 5 why it sold better? spectrum sold better in the UK than c64, still majority of the games arent better because of more talent, etc blah. Why do you implicate that I am insisting that anyone should stop loving a8 and stop being creative on it ? I dont. I dont want to hurt Yoomp!'s author, but as a coder I dont find it very impressive. I have done enough tunnels myself, its simple to do. Crownland or Space Harrier is more complex, or that a8 turrican demo, imho. and why on earth do a8 people sell/buy games? dont you do it for fun ?
