Dang it. I tried as fast as I could to enter my $50 bid, and I was swamped by a $2,000 bid.
Dang, already over $3,000. That thing is taking off like a rocket.

For your viewing pleasure, I present the eBay auction for Air Raid, CIB:
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 110514343174
I have placed my bid of $26.83. Wish me luck!

First, the box is taller than the insert. I imagine the insert would fit loosely in that box. Vertically, anyway.
I don't think so, or at least that is not definitive in this pic sitting on the carpet like that. Look at the last picture with the common cart boxes. It *appears* that Donkey Kong is slightly taller than Starmaster, much in the same way as the Air Raid insert. But when I pulled my Donkey Kong and Starmaster box and compared, they are the same size.

I notice Tanman has been watching the thread, and there is still no auction. Are you still putting up an auction tonight Tanman or are you going to wait for another day?
Uploading 12 pictures is takinglonger then I expected...
Yeah, thanks for hanging with us.

I have been constantly checking eBay. He said at around 9pm Central, which is like 15 minutes.

EDIT: I did my duty in that other thread. HAVE YOU?
You are a naughty little monkey. Someone needs to spank you.
Spank the monkey...spank the monkey
Me thinks we have a volunteer.
If I can find my wife's whip; he is gonna get it!
Alright, gents, I always love chatting here on the www.900spankme.com forum, but I need to get back to the AtariAge forum to participate in a serious discussion about an Air Raid cartridge.
What? Wait a second......

Here's the REAL box!
Nice photoshop job! Nobody makes frames THAT GOOD, we all know that, DUH!

No doubt, this is a total fake, you can tell because the shadows are all wrong. FAIL.

Wait, does that make all of us....CYBER BULLIES????
Yes, expect a cease and desist order from my lawyer....
Or at the very least a letter saying my dad can beat up your dad.

Forget the hair dryer and an old price tag. Peeled price tags turn into a hot mess, and it is obvious this one isn't a peel and stick.
I could do the old peel and stick and you would have no way of knowing. There are ways other than the hair dryer, and I am as inexperienced as they get

I just can not believe any method will look this good. Sure there are other ways to peel. But these edges, including the center edging to discourage peeling, are too pristine, yet at the same time show the right amount of aging while still lying nice and flat on the box.
His close-ups of the price tag are very clear. Show me pics this good of a peel and stick (i.e. before, during, after) that looks this good to make me a believer.

I am in digital imaging processing and there is a limit of what you can do. You can't add information that was destroyed. Sure you can make it look better and newer but that box image has details that the cartridge doesn't have.
BTW there isn't an "enhance" button in photoshop. That is only in James Bond movies.
I definitely agree with that. I have to do a fair amount of Photoshopping in my work and things like Gaussian or unsharp blur softens a picture by slight blurring. Pretty easy to spot. Conversely the sharpen feature does a poor job at its namesake, producing some weird angles/colors especially around the edges. It is also easy to spot. Both would take a lot of tweaking. And yes, the movie stuff where they take a small picture and "enhance" it to show minuscule detail is pure fiction. You would end up with big pixel blobs.
So while my gut tells me this is an April Fool's prank, my mind says, "Wow, that would be an incredibly hard feat to produce that box that looks that good." The picture on the front would be very time consuming to produce from the plaqued cart image. And the price tag? It would take either very experienced Photoshop skills (doubtful as I have looked close at pic) or someone who has NOS price tags and stuck one on the repro box. Forget the hair dryer and an old price tag. Peeled price tags turn into a hot mess, and it is obvious this one isn't a peel and stick.
I want it to be real. But either way, I am enjoying the show.

"Hold your controller with the red button to your lower left toward your television screen."???????????????
I guess it really was printed in Taiwan.
lol. I didn't catch that at first. Even the picture is bass-ackwards.

Amazing!!
We'll see now how close Atari 2600 values can get to NES ;)I guess this really does mean taht there are at least 2 of these boxes out there!!Get your popcorn ready! I can't wait to see this auction.

please tell me this in not an April Fools joke.
"loan command post" is a nice engrish touch if it is.

That is funny, "All your base belong to us" right? The price sticker is a nice touch, too.

Wow, I feel like I am witnessing history in the making. But with April 1st just around the corner ..... arghhhhh ......

I think you are both right. If he had a BIN of $300, it would be gone, but it is not worth it. I wouldn't want that eye-sore sitting on the shelf with my other games.
-
I need the box (have the cart and manual), but I would have a tough time paying $300 for a box that looks that bad. I am resigned to the fact that some games will never be CIB in my collection, and this is one of them.

Did you put a battery in it? The Astroblast part is auto fire.
Yeah, doesn't make any difference. I can see the autofire with the battery in but the game still goes crazy whether or not battery is in or the switch is on Normal or Astroblast (although it seems to go crazy faster in Astroblast mode).
The ship will quickly turn invisible (but I can still fire), the game goes super fast, and when my ship explodes it stays on the red exploding screen and the ship count churns from 01-99 super fast forever. Quite bizarre. But no problems with a regular joystick.
Oh well, just curious if anyone else had this happen, but I figured I was the only one.

I have you tried the Seawolf homebrew? If you like Polaris, I am pretty sure you will like Seawolf. Both are great submarine games.
-
I really like this controller for a couple games. It is perfect for Asteroids on the 7800. I have one with the faux wood grain, which I think is sexy, errr, anyway.....
Here is something weird though with my Starplex. It has the switch for Normal and Astroblast. I thought, Cool, gotta try that. Plugged Astroblast in and sure enough it is a great controller for that game. But then shortly into gameplay, it (the game) freezes up. Reset, try again, same result. I try the game with a CX-40, no problems.
I think that it must be a problem with the cart -- How could a controller cause a game/system to freeze? So I buy a loose copy of Astroblast but have the same problem.
Has anyone else experienced this, or am I the lucky one?

Very nice condition, CIB Sears Video Arcade II with original receipt:
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 140394060688
I don't collect the Sears variations, but this is nice enough with a low enough starting price to be tempting. I know, it is nothing out of this world, but still interesting, especially with that original, hand-written, Sears receipt.
Missing all the internal packaging if it matters.I thought about it the first time it listed at $59.99 and didnt sell.
That would definitely be a plus. I think I was more impressed with the condition of the box, the system, and the original receipt.
