  1. Agreed, but that is why you practice on a couple carts beforehand. CannibalCat will know exactly what his comfort level is after that. While weighing isn't a bad idea, to get maximum value you have to open it. Reverse the situation -- if you wanted to get an authentic Atlantis II cart and pay big buck$, would you feel comfortable with only a picture of a scale weight? It would be like buying a collectible, used automobile and not be able to check under the hood.
  2. To take this cart apart, all you need is a hair dryer, a small Phillips screwdriver and a little patience. Turn the hair dryer on heat and get the label nice and toasty (takes 2-3 minutes). If there is a corner that is already peeling up (from either before or during the heating process), that is where you want to start. Pull slowly. You will find that the label peels off very easy once started after heating. Peel to expose the two screws in the middle of the label. You don't have to take the entire label off. Once the screws are out, the cart easily comes apart. As you mention, practice on one or two IMAGIC carts beforehand.
  3. Something I found helpful was getting a Foot Pedal controller for these games. Personal preference, I suppose, but it is a lot easier to use than two joysticks at one time. They are easy to come by and you configure which pedal does what. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 260554456469 For example, Defender II is a lot easier when I can push the pedal for smart bombs.
  4. I don't know about the EarthWorld contest, but yes, the Chalice, Crown, Philosopher's Stone, and Sword were all on display at the FireWorld contest. [Homer Simpson] (Drool) uuuhhhhhh... Phi-lo-so-pher's Stone, uuuhhhhhh... white jade, uuuhhhhhh... [/Homer Simpson] Says SeaGTGruff Simpson as he sips Duff Beer from his jewel encrusted chalice....
  5. I know, right? Plus, Hozer will skew the supply/demand of this cart by producing as many as people will buy. We are no longer talking about a rare commodity since the buyers don't seem to care if it is an original or a Hozer. Eventually the market will be saturated and demand will go away.
  6. As I always say wait to the couple collectors hot after it get it, then you can find one for $40 again. Sometimes that philosophy does not work. Still waiting for Halloween to go back to $75. Hmmmm , that is a good example of one that has not yet. , but Halloween is a lot rarer than Snoopy. I do think it still will go down a bit. I think in 2002 I a paid $175 for for my CIB Halloween. A good example was Dragon Stomper. $75 for around 3 of them then back down to $29.99. HHW I agree, Halloween is a bit of an oddity. Even still, the price is slowly coming back down. It was only a few months ago that a CIB Halloween was clearing $1000 and a loose cart over $200. I just picked up a loose Halloween cart for $103 in January. Looking at recent auctions from Atari2600.com price guide, you can see that the prices are still out of whack: Wizard Video Games Halloween Cartridge only $145.83 Wizard Video Games Halloween Complete in box $393.62 Wizard Video Games Halloween New in box $288.50 My guess is that Halloween will settle into the $100 range for a loose cart and $250 for CIB. And yes, Halloween is rarer and has more demand that Snoopy, which means it will quickly slide back into the $50 range for CIB and $15 for loose cart.
  7. You will have to open it up and take pictures to get what that cart is worth. Also take pictures of the cart being played (i.e. screen shots with the unique scoring). Once you have these pictures (and pictures of the flippers -- cool!), eBay will get you top dollar. Alternatively, you could try selling on the marketplace here or gamegavel or some other site, but you still we need to provide those pics, and your potential buyer pool is much smaller.
  8. Whoot!! Got the 1200XL today. It is a thing of beauty. Looks like I have something else to collect.
  9. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 200450980669 Not unusual for a game to sell for crazy money and another one pops up after with a high starting price or BIN like this one. I would pay around $50 for one of these (and I need a CIB copy).
  10. Good question, it has been a while since I counted. 354 Unique: 262 CIB and 92 loose -- most with manuals. Once I got to 300, the count slowed down a lot. Who knows with dups? I have boxes full of carts in the garage.
  11. Millipede. Frantic action -- love it. Top 10 title.
  12. Unfortunately, this auction is a little older and outside the feedback window. After it happened, it was a case where I kept going back and forth between neg'ing him and filing a dispute, but I only paid like $12 for the games and shipping. So in my indecision, I did nothing. But, to all of you, look for the quibble when asking about shipping.
  13. OK, what do you do in this case? An eBay seller had two boxed 2600 games for sale that I wanted. Before bidding I asked (as I do with all my eBay bids on boxed games): "Will you ship these items in a box to protect the game boxes?" The response, "I always pack my items well to protect them during shipment." I bid, win, and the the two boxed games arrived on top of each other in a bubble mailer. The top one was crushed. Incensed, I messaged the seller. His response, "I never said I would ship in a box. If your game was damaged it is the post office's fault. You should have bought insurance." I. CAN'T. EVEN. TELL. YOU. How mad I was. So again, be careful. Other than that, asking the seller to ship in a box before bidding has worked out very well for me.
  14. Now that would be a holy grail if I got my hands on it....
  15. Thanks 4x4. I thought it was evident from the quote that you were referring to Qaudrun with your price question. But since Zwackery was quoting you a price on CtCW, then $60 is in the ballpark. I think I paid $68 for mine and recently saw one in decent condition for $63. But my offer still stands, especially if is it the exceptionally rare version with the extra "d" that I speak of.
  16. about $60, depending on the market, phases of the moon, etc. I would be happy to buy your copy for $60 if it works. Please provide your PayPal address, and a photo of the cart showing it is in very good+ shape. I will throw in $5 for shipping. Seriously. The offer applies to anyone on AA. BTW, Atari2600.com Price Guide (eBay auction tracker) places a loose cart Quaddrun recent eBay sell at $177.
  17. In the military we have the saying, "There is always one." As in, one person to screw up. On eBay, the saying should be, it just takes two. As in two people willing to throw crazy money away on that item instead of being patient. t***7 US $146.50 Mar-11-10 01:35:54 PST s***_ US $144.00 Mar-11-10 03:09:20 PST t***7 US $105.00 Mar-11-10 01:35:22 PST s***_ US $88.00 Mar-11-10 03:06:46 PST t***7 US $5.00 Mar-11-10 01:32:03 PST
  18. Wow. Ask and you shall receive. Thanks a bunch Cybergoth, this clears up a lot. Great job, BTW.
  19. My gripe with the commercial (besides the dorky music at the end) is equating their "performance boost" gimmick to the innovations of the Atari 2600, e-Mail, and Wi-Fi. Really? Your chip, which doesn't provide 100% availability all the time -- only occasionally to give a "boost", is equivalent to these other electronic milestones? No thanks. I will continue to play on my Atari 2600 and log onto AA using my homemade PC sporting an AMD Phenom IIx4 overclocked to 4Ghz.
  20. 1) I never noticed the auto-launch setting in the manual till you mentioned it. I tried the BW/Color switch on mine with no effect. I guess it is the same as the GUNFIGHT homebrew. Its manual says that the BW/Color switch toggles whether bullets bounce, but it does nothing as well; the bullets bounce regardless of setting. 2) That damn pod vexes me. It is how the game always ends for me -- I run out of fuel. And it seems to show up just after I die, i.e. Out of fuel, sub sinks, about 15 seconds after my next sub starts, there is the pod with an (un-needed) refuel. Regardless, this simple shooter is still a lot of fun.
  21. But...but....but...In the description he says it is a 1983 XONOX cart. How can it be Shawn's? These Halloween repro carts are taking on a life of their own.
  22. Wow. I am really surprised. Well, good for him. But I will add, he didn't have to, all he needed to do is to add to the description that it is a reproduction from Hozer.
  23. Yup, don't know if this is Hozer's account. Probably not. All I know is that I would be unhappy to discover I spent this much on a repro.
  24. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 290407235748 My initial thought was, "Not a terrible BIN price considering the crazy prices Halloween has been fetching." I recently nabbed a cart on eBay for $103. Then I saw the infamous "You're hosed" face on the cart. I checked the description. No surprise there -- nothing mentioned about it being a reproduction. Somebody is going to drop a Ben Franklin and his friends Jackson and Lincoln for a repro......
  25. Thanks Al. It looks like the Atari 2600's long-lost half-brother. I like it -- might buy it if the shipping and exchange rate wasn't so bad.
