  1. Wow, I am envious. Beautiful stuff. Thanks for sharing pic. I paid $125 for Waterworld with comic, instructions, and help sheet on ebay about 2 years ago.
  2. I wouldn't say Beep4Me is a jerk, but I would agree that he doesn't understand haggling. I don't know why he just doesn't list his stuff as BIN instead of Best Offer. I have bought several items knowing I was paying a premium. But his selection is pretty good, and I was tired of waiting to find that item cheaper. My only complaint is that he is a little slow to ship. If I am paying a premium price for the game and S&H that is a little high, then he needs to get it out the door fast. I have seen him take a week to ship an item in a priority mail box (kinda defeats the purpose).
  3. I think you will like it. While I am not crazy about it, my daughter loves it. Maybe I would like it more if she didn't beat me at it.
  4. Congrats. That is good stuff. I am trying to complete my M-Network CIB collection, but can't find Star Strike in a box. I have it with the manual, so that is the next best thing. Some great games came from them, Bump-N-Jump being my favorite and Dark Cavern a close second.
  5. I forgot about Stargate/Defender II. Saboteur was not released...so yes it was renamed, but if you want to go down that road there's a number of titles that were changed prior to release. Plus, it was not simply a title change, it became a completely different game. Stargate was renamed due to trademark problems. Let's not forget Basic Math turning into Fun with Numbers. That is marketing at work, hoping a name change will help sell a dull title.
  6. That is a good price for either (depending on the condition of the system, of course), so I would say buy BOTH. If I had to choose only one, it would definitely be the sixer. Classic.
  7. No, you don't. The random # generator operates perfectly in either direction...and the map layout is unchanged regardless if you go from the last screen to the first, or from the first to the last. There is a slight advantage travelling that direction, tho...if that is what you mean. For most of the time, the logs will roll with you instead of against you, crocodiles will be facing away from you, and death will put you past the obstacle that killed you. Interesting. I thought going left was the only way based on a couple walkthrough maps showing a right to left pattern. That is good news since it just doesn't feel right going "backwards."
  8. I don't think very many of us suffer from THAT disorder Trust me, it sneaks up on you. About 4 1/2 years ago I started with a 4-switch 2600 and 12 boxed games. Last count I am up to 422, all unique titles for that Atari system. I never thought I would own that many, but there just seems no end to games that I want. Ironically, my screen name is based on the fact that I see quite a few AA members with collections/items that I am envious of. Breakdown: Atari 2600, 326 games: 244 CIB 72 Cart w\manual 10 Cart only Atari 5200, 47 games: 39 CIB 8 Cart only Atari 7800, 49 games: 44 CIB 5 Cart w\manual I have some Intellivision, C64 and Apple II systems and games, but the Atari stuff is my pride and joy.
  9. Very nice. I am assuming by the orientation of Harry, that you are going right to left. I know you have to go this way to get a perfect score, but I was wondering what are some people's high scores going left to right. Currently, mine is 85,968.
  10. Just the opposite for me. I don't have the patience to finish a game when I have 400 other Atari games that need playing. It's like Attention Deficit Disorder, "Oh look, Spacemaster X-7." wouldn't that be Atari Deficit Disorder? I think you have diagnosed a new ailment/term for the Atari universe. I've got that one bad. I wonder if there is any cure?
  11. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! MUST. HAVE. FERTARI. NOW. *painful convulsions and twitching of eyes*
  12. WOW!! That "limited edition pewter bust of Warren Roninett" is the clencher Sorry, Herbarius. Your "Collector's Edition" is cool and all, but I am going to have to cancel my order. All the cool AA members are getting FerTaris!
  13. Wow...*laughing*...tough crowd. While I am inclined to say no on Ultimate Sin's 2600 "Atari Gold," you can sign me up for Herbarius' "Collector's Edition." That would be the bomb. Can you price match Sin's $150 MSRP?

  15. On my *own* 2600 was Pitfall in 2005. My family didn't have a 2600 back in the day. First 2600 game ever played was Combat at a friend's house. I was a little underwhelmed with that one at the time but love it today. However, as other games came along, I became a big-time fan.
  16. A new generation of Atari 2600 of junkies is born Good purchase. If you like those games, there are many more that are even better. Enjoy gaming as it was originally meant to be.
  17. +1 This is a pretty charged topic and usually only appears on the 5200 and 7800 forums. I collect for all three. I really like the 7800, and I find the 5200 and interesting experiment. But neither had the same magic as the 2600.
  18. I for one can't live without smart bombs. My solution is to play with my shoes off. The second joystick sits on the floor with my big toe on the fire button. Crude but effective. I have been long thinking of making a joytick just for Defender II/Stargate.
  19. Hey Homer, good point. I have enjoyed reading about the chalice recently and enjoyed Michael's pictures and comments. It would be interesting to know if the chalice would sell for more than it's material worth if put up for auction. I didn't mean to open the proverbial can-o-worms on this. I was genuinely interested in some up the upper price ranges for the "uber-rare" 2600 stuff. I have been collecting for over 4 years and the most I have seen an Atari 2600 item go for was approximately $4,200; however who knows if the eBay sale was completed. I saw a boxed Tooth Protectors go for $2,000 or $2,500 and have it on good authority it was an AA member, and the sale was completed. But items in the 1,000s of $$$$ seem to be very, very rare. Generally the rare stuff is in the mid to high hundreds. I was curious about what big ticket items others have seen who have been collecting longer. Apparently NES collectors are willing to pay a LOT more for games. Is it because it is a more popular system? I dunno, I have my doubts, I think there are other factors involved. But I DO NOT want to make this a thread about NES vs. 2600, so I will hold my tongue to avoid releasing more worms.
  20. +1 Defender II is a top 10 game for me.
  21. $17,500 for one NES game: http://buzz.yahoo.com/article/1:yahoo_game...17500-videogame Atlantis II comes to mind, but would it go that high? One was listed on eBay for $50K, but no one bought it, and it was a pretty dubious listing. Thoughts?

    Swordquest

As I recall, Steven Bell told me that he had the Talisman melted down by a coin dealer for cash, although he kept the little sword from it. I have the Chalice in a bank vault (safety deposit box). I had a reasonably good photo of the Talisman that Steven sent me, along with photos of the Chalice and the other prizes, but I put the best ones in an envelope, and I haven't been able to find the envelope for several years now. Believe it or not, I rarely see the Chalice-- the last time was a few years ago, when John Hardie came down to interview me and take some photos. I need to get some decent photos taken of it, so I can post them. I thought EarthWorld was the hardest game-- I could never find more than four, or maybe five, of the number clues in the game by myself. WaterWorld is the easiest game, because you get hints in the game as you pick up and drop the different objects in the different rooms. If you trigger all of the hint displays, you can piece them together to find out most of the objects needed in each room to trigger the number clues-- although I think you still need to use trial and error to figure out what all of the objects are. FireWorld seems really hard, too, but it turns out it's easier than EarthWorld, although not as easy as WaterWorld. There's a sort of pattern or methodology to the way the clues are triggered-- . If you're patient, try all the combinations that fit the pattern, and keep notes so you know which combinations you've tried, you can find all the clues by yourself-- but it takes a while! Is there a question in there? It looks like your sentence got chopped off before you finished it. I posted some notes in another AtariAge thread about how to play FireWorld by yourself, and included some spoiler information about which objects do what, and where to put them to trigger the clues. I never wrote anything like that for EarthWorld, because I never beat that game by myself. But what you should do is make a list or map of each room, and which objects start out in which rooms. Then carry around just one object and try to get into each room, and you'll quickly be able to tell which objects help you get into which room. Also, the side exits are locked unless you're carrying a certain object. Michael Edit: Here's the post where I gave hints about playing FireWorld, including attachments for a map and "cheatsheets": http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=1117665 Thanks for the post and doing the interview. That is some interesting stuff, and congrats on becoming a part of Atari 2600 lore. I would be interested in seeing some pics if you have time.
  23. It's people like you that make me never want to come to old school forums. I love my old school games, I appreciate their primative and simple gameplay. But I also like complex, modern games like COD and Fallout 3. When you are calling out the DS lite because the screen is apparently sooooo bright that it blinds your eyes, it makes you look like you have your head up your ass aout anything thats not old school. Seriously? Your second post on your second day of Atariage membership, and you are calling out another member saying they have their head up their "ass aout [sic] anything that[']s not old school"? You need to stick to the pubescent forums where such attitude is the norm. It would suit you fine since you "never want to come to old forums" anyway.
