To be honest in reality my score is really not reflective any great accomplishment. It is more reflective that my life is so pathetic that I dedicated my time, and energy on a game in order to keep my focus away from the fact that I am a complete loser. That is why during the summer I plan on going after some other video game record. This is my way of mentally escaping.
Damn, Homer, that is pretty harsh even if you are just kidding (which I definitely hope and assume you are).
Let's hug it out big guy. Doughnut?

While not scientific, I decided to compare other R5 games to see how many are listed on eBay. I tried to take a cross section of different companies with a recognizable game.
HERO 4
Time Pilot 0
Artillery Duel 7
Beamrider 1
Megamania 5
Snoopy and the Red Baron 2
Laser Gates 5
King Kong 3
Dragonstomper 0 (I am thinking this has become more of an R6 or 7)
Bump N Jump 6
Crash Dive 4
Cross Force 4
Marine Wars 3
Star Wars Arcade Game 1
Montezuma's Revenge 1
Based on my random sampling, I would expect that an R5 game would have roughly 3-6 games listed on eBay under normal circumstances. I have been watching Motorodeo for the past couple months and 6 is the *fewest* I have seen, and 13 is the highest. Currently there is 9, with one just selling today.

Atari 2600 NTSC Motorodeo completed auctions Feb 2005 through Feb 2010
New in shrinkwrapped box 107
Complete in box 23
Cartridge only 5
Total sold on eBay 135, average of 27 per year.
JC is the man. So over the past 5 years, more then 2 per month has been sold and paid for. That is a pretty solid run and definitely not a "Rare" title since there has been and still is a constant supply available. Right now there are 9 available for sale or bid ranging in prices from $9.99 to $99.99.
Homer mentions the Venezuela seller, but there are currently 3 different sellers from Venezuela selling these. I wonder if there is any connection between the 3 and if they are getting them from the same source. Leads me to believe there is a lot more of them coming.
-
That is a new one: 19 bids and the bid amount is still exactly one cent....
Good luck with your auction. Any monkeys included with this lot?

It's not a 3 pack. He's selling 3 games, he is just to cheap to have a picture for each game.
HA HA, my bad, you are right. It is three games. Well, not as bad, but still thinking this cart has fallen from an R10 to now probably a 3 or 4.
Ya it's getting to where this is gonna have to be adjusted in the guide to a R3 as even being able to call it a R5 is pretty misleading at this point.
Do any of the resident statisticians have any idea how many of these have been sold on ebay since the great find? I'm sure there were very many that were also sold off ebay as well. I know thats how i got mine
I sent an email to JC at atari2600.com. He should have those stats, let's see if he responds. I am curious too.

Getting better!

Better watch out, Homer, next thing you know the student will become the master

Oddly enough, the exact same item in a legit release is available:

I swear, they are going to start giving one away free with every 2600 purchase on eBay. Now they are being sold in a 3-pack for $15:
eBay Auction -- Item Number: 150431046071
There are 7 Motorodeo auctions running now on eBay. This has been going on for a while and not showing any signs of slowing up.
EDIT: brandonwrite correctly points out that it is 3 carts not a 3 pack. Always read the fine print, right?

Love it
I know it has been beaten to death in the 8 bit forum, but maybe some members on the 2600 side haven't seen the Moon8, The Dark Side of the Moon in 8-bit:

I have been trying to find interesting auctions the past few days, and everything is pretty common. The best I can come up with is Smurf Saves the Day with all three cassettes (this is the real version, not the repro Hozer is trying to hawk).

I snagged this one - after trying for a few years to get one. Coming CIB, I expected it to go for a lot more than that. Actually, I lucked out, as $86 was my max bid!
--Timster--
Okay how about this one? A Spectravideo CompuMate Atari 2600 keyboard.
That keyboard is pretty cool. I was going back and forth about bidding. It would make a nice display piece in an Atari collection. Glad that an AA member got it.

Interesting. I forgot about the eBay store change, that would account for the good size bump of recent. However, I wouldn't completely discount what ianoid says. There has been a steady rise the past few years, and I am seeing a lot of new sellers enter the market.
-
Here is a nice one for $189.99 With end label.
I forgot to check JC's site. His prices are always pretty competitive. Only bummer for us, wolfman, is that we have to pay sales tax

-
hey Tanman, why no manual? just wondering.
any story behind that?
You can read all about the "loan command center" and how to protect it by holding the joystick in a special yogo stance and pressing the fire button with your big toe by reviewing the back of the box.
HAHA
lol. The conversion to the AA dark side is almost complete.
BTW, have you looked at any escrow services for the auction? Seems like with any big dollar auctions I have seen they use escrow acounts (I can't speak from experience, just seen them described in the auction listing). I bet Google know all about those.
-
Yeah, it's obvious that the illustration is simply wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if the person who created the illustration had ever even seen an Atari 2600 joystick.

..Al
Agreed. After all, the picture of the CX-40 is wrong since it shows the wire coming out of the opposite end as the fire button.
-
I can't believe you don't have River Raid and Starmaster. Both are top 10 games for me.
Also, pick up Secret Quest either here or on eBay (yes, they are cheap CIB right now). Pretty clever and challenging late release game.
-
Enough of these are starting to surface that I feel like this cart has turned into an 8 on rarity, but regardless the price has slowly been on the rise. However, for just a bit more, I feel like you can get one with the end label and in better condition.
I picked up mine -- cart and manual -- for $225 and felt that I overpaid in a bidding war about two and half years ago. But now I see that the cart and manual is selling for a little over $300.
I know a lot of people don't like this game, but I do -- was playing it the other night.

For the first time since I have been collecting, eBay is returning over 10K items for a search on "Atari 2600". To put it in perspective about 5 years ago, I did the same search and had 1978 items returned, now it's 10,365. I remember the 1978 number because I had the thought, "One less item and the count matches the year of its release."
The number has been climbing steadily and seems to have taken a jump with eBay's new policies for listing. Seems like we are seeing both a rise in the amount of supply and demand of Atari 2600 items. The net result seems to be driving the common stuff prices into the ground (for example .01 -.99 listings for loose commons) and raising the price of the more rare stuff.
Just my 1/50th of a dollar.

Here's a nice story that was posted a short while ago on Betanews:

Nice article, looks like you contributed quite a bit to it, Mr. Yarusso. (Now I know the rest of that story).

This is just a Warm Up for Wonder, He is just Stretching out. Getting ready for the Main event.

I assume you are referring to the now famous Tanman auction?
-
Until such time as there is another box found, Tanman is my personal Sir Edmund Hillary, and Al is Tenzing Norgay.
Indeed. Here is the photo took of the historic moment.
Al has a very big head.

He got it from running this site
