Sorry for the vague response earlier - it takes a few minutes; you have to assign a function to an application. I assigned the equivalent of the X axis of the mouse to the MAME32.EXE application. I say the 'equivalent' because they didn't word it that way in the drop down box for the function selections ... I'm sorry, I forget the term they used (and I'm at work right now), but it wasn't 'Mouse X Axis'. I'll look later...

I actually have that (above post) - it is the *best* - I know it works with MAME (although it takes some setting up). I have not tried it with PCAEWIN, but I don't see why it wouldn't work for that either.

That was what I meant (I must have said it wrong - I'm sorry) Rob Kudla also mentions where the colors are in the rom, and BreakPack was asking how I hacked the colors. -

Thanks Sku_u BTW I saw the post in the 2600 thread about the WIP of PacManPlus - that was very nice of you Breakpack I am still working on trying to figure this stuff out by myself, I have disassembled the rom (thanks to Distella, and breaking the program into 2 - 4K parts), and have mapped out the graphics section of it. I might need a little help trying to figure out where certain routines are, so any help is appreciated I have included how far I got here (not the binary, looking at the source) - NOTE that I started with MsPacMan, not the hack. Regarding the colors, Rob Kudla has documented where the colors are in the file - just download his binary, and look for the .txt file in there - it explains everything. http://www.kudla.org/raindog/pac26.html mspacs.zip -

@Breakpack: In PacManPlus (the arcade version), the monster's eyes are one pixel closer together when looking left or right, and they are one pixel lower when looking up (I wonder why?) I'll have to check your version out to see what you did Here are some screen shots... One of the blue monsters, and one of the 'Pancake' Level: -

Thanks, man I was thinking about the 'disappearing maze/dots' thing, and most likely if we just change the color to the background, that would create the effect needed... -
Well, I began it... http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33319 Hey Pixel / Nukey Shay maybe between the three of us, we can get the last few things changed?

It also depends on your video card, and the amount of memory installed. I was using a Pentium 200 with 64Mb for the Cocktail Cab on my page and it was fine for the early games. I don't think you'll have a problem
-
I made mine (for MegaMAME) in Microsoft Publisher, and then brought it to Kinkos to get printed.

@Room34 - Any Time @Eric - Thanks so much! That's very nice of you to say

Thanks I've used each type of monitor, for instance: 1) MegaMAME uses a hybrid arcade/VGA monitor. It's like an arcade monitor (the 'fuzzyness') with a VGA connection (the correct sync) IMHO it's the best way to go just connect it up and dont worry about timing frequencies. 2) MiniMAME uses a LCD panel (from the laptop). It's ok, I just keep the scanlines on. 3) MiniPac uses a standard arcade monitor (9"!) But that was a given, because it was a real arcade board. 4) The Cocktail Cabinet uses a PC Monitor. Again, scanlines are on but it's way too sharp to capture the effect of the real ones. By the way, I'm working on another Cocktail cab, being that I don't have my original one any more. But because I hate the woodworking part, I just got the shell from this site (by the way they are *great*): http://www.arcadedepot.com/ The kit is just $195!!! Haven't received it yet though (it's actually a Christmas present) Anyway, for that one I will be using the Arcade/PC hybrid monitor (probably a Wells Gardner) - the best of both worlds! Good Luck!

Hey Man I've actually built 7 of these, all different types (stand up, miniature, cocktail, etc) My Website: http://pacfan69.tripod.com/cabinets/ I have a few specs on the site for each cab to answer some of your questions; if you need any help at all please do not hesitate to PM me. The only thing, though, is that I've made them with PCs only. Can't help in the Mac area

Thank you - and Welcome to AtariAge!!!! I've been wondering how hard it would be to just call the subroutine to turn the monsters blue once the fruit is eaten (assuming it's a subroutine) Also, I would need a random function to make the maze color transparent when an energizer is eaten... Unless I am missing something, I don't think it would be that hard. I just have to try and figure out the disassembly of Ms.PacMan. I have 'raindog' to thank for documenting some of the code for it. Anyway, thanks for the reply -
To anyone who mentioned PacMan Plus - please check the hacks section

I did a hack of the graphics/colors to see how close we can come to Pac-Man Plus on the 2600. Now the only things it's missing are: 1) Turning the ghosts blue by eating the fruit (and scoring double points when you eat them) 2) Making the maze/dots disappear somtimes when you eat an energizer 3) Sometimes making one of the monsters not turn blue when you eat an energizer, and 4) Speeding up the whole thing Can anyone help? P.S. - sorry for the bad conversion of the graphics - I'm no artist! enjoy! pacplus.zip

Hello! To answer your questions (as well as I can): 1) I've only tried one 5200 games with it - Pac-Man, and it crashed I am using all of the 800 versions of 5200 games (they are identical anyway; except for Pac-Man - the gameplay is slightly different) 2) I have sound enabled 3) Don't know; Pac-Man is the only one I've tried (from the 5200) and as I said in #1 it crashed... This really is an excellent emulator. Pretty much full speed with sound... You might want to consider doing what I did - get all of the A800 versions of the 5200 games you are familiar with. hope this helps!

That sounds awesome! Too bad I have a IIc

Actually, they are available right here! I haven't yet seen any fonts closer than these... http://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/Atar...l?SystemID=2600

This may be a silly suggestion (and forgive me if it is) but what about putting the flag just inside the castle gate? (Meaning the first room you enter after you open the castle door). This way it's not quite as easy to get the flag, but you don't have to worry about the mazes either...

Sadistroids (was: Asteroids Turbo)
PacManPlus replied to Thomas Jentzsch's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Hmmm - do I see an 'Asteroids+' cart in our future??? -
Hey Eric: When I made mine, I used 8-way joysticks, although it really depends on the individual game. Atari standard joysticks are 8-way, with (for instance) up+left being diagonal NorthWest, etc. If you wanted true 4-way for certain games (Ms.Pac-Man, Maze Craze, etc) Maybe you should think about getting the T-Stick from Ultimarc (I just picked up two) it has a switch on the side to go between 4 and 8 way. As far as lighting the buttons, I used those same ones on an arcade machine I built, and I had connected +5v to one lead and ground to another (actually, I had them connected to a KE-72 which puts out +5v and the Caps, Scroll, and Num lock buttons - because MAME uses them as credit indicators). but +5v and ground should work for you. Hope this helps!

Hey! Actually, what I did was put an I-Pac inside the case and use a slot cover with two 9-pin male 'D' connectors, so I can use the 2600 joysticks with it! (I used the 'extra' pins as additional buttons as well, so I can make a custom controller w/ 4 buttons) The thing works great! As far as the 90 degree thing, I knew *that* couldn't be, but after seeing opcode's conversion of PacMan Collection for the Colecovision, I figured they did something like that. (Same logic, just the scores and level indicators were moved right, and the playfield was reduced to 3/4 size). Oh Well, I guess this can be taken as an 'updated' Pac-Man, where you have to figure out the monster's AI all over again. A new level of difficulty!
