  1. Your red drive transistor (usually found on the neck board) is most likely out. You'll need the manual and schematics to find it for sure, then you'll need to test it to see if it's blown. It's best to actually remove the transistor and test it out of circuit. Also, check the neck board for any cold solder joints around the drive transistors. I recently fixed a Sega Indy 500 that had color problems due to cold solder joints. Brian
  2. Fun game, but wasn't my cup of tea, really. The only place I ever saw it was Crazy Cone in Grand Rapids, MI. I was too busy trying to save the last of the human race in Robotron to pay much attention to Make Trax. It's good for a whirl once in a while now...
  3. ...because i'm... an... ...idiot? Nah you're not. It's pretty easy. Just get a nice big bit, put it in the center of the barrel, and let 'er go. Eventually, you'll hit the screw that holds the lock lever and POP. She'll open right up for you like the house in People Under The Stairs
  4. I like the Lazer Battle game idea that Ed Logg drew up in the Centipede binder. I may just whip that up for my MAME cab
  5. I had at one time: Asteroids Space Duel Battlezone Tempest Anti-Aircraft Breakout Steeplechase Major Havoc (Tempest conversion) Tank Pole Position and a few others I can't remember right now. I owned the only classic arcade within a 200 mile area from 1999-2002
  6. Kaos, by Game Plan. It's in MAME. I've only ever seen one of these machines, at Silver Castle in Grand Rapids MI, circa 1983. Someone mentioned Laser Base. I know where a cocktail sits right now, rotting in a barn, home for mice Some machines I've only seen one or two of, but enjoyed immensely: Pioneer Balloon, in MAME. Only ever saw one; the Rock-Ola version, at J&R Supermarket back in '82. Space Dungeon, also at Silver Castle. Space Chaser, at Funway Freeway in GR, 1980 Cosmic Avenger, at a drug store in GR, 1983. Rocky, the owner of Goldmine Comics in GR, has one in his shop now. Only two I've ever seen. Carnival, Funway Freeway, 1980 Eagle, Swiss Alps arcade in Rockford MI, 1984 Warp Warp, Silver Castle Kram, some laundromat in GR, 1984 The Pit, Meijer, 1982 Reactor, also at Meijer Astro Blaster, Rockford Lanes, 1982 Mazer Blazer, Funway Freeway, 1984 Quantum, Chez Ami, 1984 Star Hawk, Funway Freeway, 1980 Space Wars, Funway Freeway, 1980 Starship 1, Comet Lanes, 1978 Not a video, but 18 Wheeler by Midway, EM game, Comet Lanes Computer Space, somewhere in California when I was really young, 1974ish. LOOOOVED this game and still do. Glad I found a simulator on the net I'm sure there are tons more, but I can't think of them right now. Great games, all of them
  7. Something I forgot... Yeah... the original concept was created as Gauntlet III, but there was never any code done for it. The game was always Xybots. So, there was a connection. I think "bullshit" is too strong of a word for something that came directly from the designer himself
  8. From Ed Logg: "Xybots came from a challenge by Doug Snyder, a hardware engineer at Atari. We wanted to do a multi-player Castle Wolfenstein-like game that had no 'bit map' hardware. So I created an algorithm based on 8 by 8 stamps and he did the hardware. I started the game as a two-player split-screen Gauntlet III. Partway through, marketing said they wanted something other than Gauntlet. So I changed the characters and enemies to be more like Major Havoc. I still regret changing the theme and wish I kept my original concept." Definitely not bullshit.
  9. Wow. I missed the part about there not being any electronics inside. I wouldn't pay $20 for that pile of wank
  10. One of five known prototypes of this tabletop is on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WD1V Even the coinop that fetches the most cash (Quantum) doesn't go for THAT much
  11. Please make sure you take some pics of it, so we historians can figure out exactly what it is
  12. Sounds like one of the many Japanese Breakout clones/bootlegs. For $10, I'd jump on it. And if you don't want it, I'll buy it from you
  13. Anti-Aircraft Breakout Circus (MAME samples came from this machine) Kung-Fu Master (soon to be Defender again, anyone want to buy the kit?) Monaco GP cockpit Paddle Battle PCB (1973 Pong clone) LeMans PCB Space Invaders Steeplechase Super Bug PCB Tank Tempest Chicago Coin Motorcycle (electromechanical racing game)
  14. Is this the one that Greg from Skynet in Lansing MI was selling? If so, I got a chance to play it before he sold it. Nice machine at a great price!
  15. It was painted white for that movie only...
  16. Since you like seeing "Los Gatos" on this game, I suggest picking up a Steeplechase too. Firing mine up and seeing those cool sparkly buttons light up is nothing short of cool
  17. I tried it on my machine, but it didn't work for some odd reason. I still get the normal plane graphics. Weird.
  18. The "chirping" you hear is the x-ray protection circuit shutting down the high voltage. This is a very common problem with the G07 monitors, and a cap kit will usually fix it. I'd grab Bob Roberts' repair kit and just rebuild the entire chassis PCB. http://www.therealbobroberts.com
  19. I got mine today (a polo). Very nice. In what capacity did you work at Atari Games? Just curious since I maintain Owen Rubin's site.
  20. Chances are it has an Electrohome G07 or Wells-Gardner 4600 or 4900 series monitor that's seen better days, and needs a cap kit. What is a cap kit? It's a package of new capacitors that replace the old ones on a monitor chassis. This generally solves a lot of problems with older monitors, although in the G07's case, I'd just go for a whole rebuild kit (around $35 last I remember) and replace the flyback, regulator, and the capacitors. If it turns out to be the game PCB, you can find another Rastan (or another horizontal game with similar controls.. it's a JAMMA if I'm not mistaken) fairly cheap on eBay. I'm not sure that there's a dedicated Rastan cabinet. Chances are, it's probably an old game converted to Rastan. Everything you need to know about recapping a monitor can be found at this URL: http://www.alsarcade.com/capkit.htm Good luck. $50 is a good price for that particular game. Brian
  21. You can find production numbers for Atari games up to 1984 here: http://marvin3m.com/video/atari.htm
  22. Vanguard was the first quarter sucker that I remember playing. I just had to see the end. Sucky game? Street Smart. What a piece of crap.
