When I get my CRPG done my next projects on the TI are: Gauntlet clone (some of you saw bits of this at FestWest '17) Roguelike (Had a couple threads on Atariage on map generation)
-
I had the same thought myself. What I heard was the prototype models they had so far were only using the 9918A because they hadn't designed the video chip intended for the system yet. So if the finished system had reached market it may have had something else by then.

Merry Christmas!

It's really all about the applications... The Geneve is proof of that. It was a solid machine with excellent hardware, but there's almost no software for it. Which is really a shame. The TI-99/8 is a great "What could have been" machine, it's impressive what the engineers accomplished when they weren't being forced to kludge together two different designs for a game console and a home computer and try and make it work.
-
I agree, the TI-99/8 is an unfinished product anyway. It only had a TMS9918A because they didn't have a next generation video chip designed as yet. I remember thinking it was puzzling it would have an older video chip in the prototypes. The Geneve is the spiritual successor of the TI-99/8 and we can see how much use it gets, sadly. Somewhere in an alternate Earth (Earth-99 perhaps?), where Jack Tramiel never rose to prominence and Texas Instruments encouraged 3rd party development, maybe the TI-99/8 was finished and is a glorious machine indeed...

It's a cartridge? The quality of the image is such I can't discern the label. EDIT: Needed to get the later version of Convert9918, it's a finalGROM cartridge.
-
I definitely want one! Those labels are awesome!

Excellent! Speaking as the poster boy around here for taking FOREVER to finish a TI project (13 years 7 months now), don't feel bad about taking time to get it done right! -
I see a Disk Manager not DM2 cart... is that harder to find? I just saw a DM2 cart at a local retro video store for $20.

I've had no issues running Classic99 in Windows 10. Most curious...
-
I've been asked the same of my game. It seems a lot of 99'ers aren't aware of what the 9918A can do...
-
Ahh nice! Sounds like my game may put some undue pressure on people to get hardware done... I'll be happy to share current binaries with anyone working on any such projects to help troubleshoot them and ensure the game works.
-
What are the sidecar SAMS options you're aware of? I know only of the Tiny PEB... And I know it works because Erik posted a video showing my game running on it.
-
I can confirm the game works like a charm with the TIPI. PEB version of course, as there is no sidecar SAMS option available that I'm aware of other than the Tiny PEB which is still in development.
-
The only problem with the nanoPEB and CF7 is that you have no SAMS support there. Maybe the game will prove so popular that Jaime will finally decide to add it.
-
Yes, it's a spot of work to do yourself, you'll need to know your way around a soldering iron. There's a few of those here. As I'm not a hardware guy, I had arcadeshopper do the mod for me on one as a backup FDC.
-
The 80-track modification for the classic TI disk controller would also provide you 360K disks. It isn't a problem of a pile of disks, it's that logistically the game won't work. The program and loading programs consume over 150k by themselves, and there wouldn't be room for saved game data.
-
Yep. I aimed to keep the disks at 180K, but it couldn't be helped.
-
Oh yes, it can run with any FDC and floppy drive system that can handle 360k disks or better. It works fine with the TIPI. The Tiny PEB ran it as well, but no idea of the state of that project.
-
The plan is to offer a box with printed manuals and a cloth map. I still have a lot to figure out there. No floppy disks, they are too delicate and I'd have to use five 360k disks for the entire game. Plus I couldn't guarantee quality and functionality of them.
-
Yes, it's a required piece of hardware. Ksarul makes them. A secondary goal was definitely to develop software to encourage adoption of the SAMS card. It's very likely all my TI projects are going to require one going forward.

Sailing is out of your control; it's a pre-defined route. That said, I DID notice on the open ocean it's not clear you're moving at all due to the lack of features. I may have to add some little islands or reefs just so you can see movement is still happening to the various transition maps.
