  1. Gumpei Yokoi's most under appreciated work. Hell with the naysayers.

Despite my earlier jest, this thread has piqued my interest in Virtual Boy so much so that I should be buying one from a JS-II member this Sunday. ;)

Yokoi's other often overlooked handheld, the Bandai WonderSwan, is a system I already own (the SwanCrystal model) and really enjoy playing on. :)

  2. Really?

I've got a 19" wood grain Toshiba set from 1982 that still works and another 27" one from 1989 that works great. I've had the most problems with JVC TVs. Never really had a Sony TV but do have a Sony DVD player from 1998 that's still going strong.

Thank heavens for someone not trashing Sony's rep for once!

    My Sony appliances:

    * I owned a 28" CRT for five years and it worked perfectly. A friend now owns it and she's happy with it too

    * I currently own a Sony 40" 1080p and its been absolutely fine

    * A DVD player since 2002 (free with the TV) and it works perfectly well still

    * A launch model PS3 which has been perfectly reliable so far

    * A launch model PSP which has been fine

    * My PlayStation from 1997 which works fine still (although it needed repairing under warranty)

    * Owned two Walkmans as a child which were problem-free

As I never bought that POS PlayStation 2 I don't have an axe to grind...

  3. I would say Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog,cus he's cute.

    Please God, no!

Sonic was never meant to be "cute", he was all about "attitude". Its only since Sega's artists have modified his image in more recent years he's become cute. :(

Yeah, but ill tell you one thing, the "cute" Sonic has attracted ALOT of girls to the game, ive heard tons of girls say how cute he is,attitude or not they've always thought he was cute, thats what i meant by cute.Attitude can have cuteness also, especially from a girls point of view! :)

Given my Sega-related username, I now feel totally emasculated knowing that Sonic's now seen as being "cute" in the opinion of girls. Thanks for nothing, buddy!

  4. According to the statements they send me, Nintendo hasn't had negative quarter since I've owned their stock (2000). I was actually hoping they'd have an earnings warning so the short-termers would drive the stock down. That way I could buy some more. :D

I take it you're a millionaire several times over then as their stock valuation has risen phenomenally since 2000 as far as I'm aware!

  5. @ Atarifever,

Not to disagree with you, but just to be an awkward sod my Xbox was/is the least loved console I've ever owned. My apathy towards it played a significant part in not sticking with the brand this generation. In fact, the 360 is the only mainstream current-gen system I've not bought. That's just my personal choice and isn't intended to bait any 360 fans btw!

  6. Yep.

I once read it stated that even though Sony's PlayStation bitch slapped the N64 in terms of market share and number of games sold, when it came to actual profits made Nintendo were only marginally behind Sony. The reasons are those you've already identified in addition to the fact Sony were taking fewer royalties on each third party game sold.

  7. Short answer is no as they were making huge money from Pokemon amongst other things including the huge success of the GameBoy Advance. I'll just go and check a magazine that lists their yearly revenues and post back with those details.

thanks I would appreciate it. This chick is one of those "always right" people that refuses to ever admit she is wrong.

For reference purposes, and to put the wench in her place  , the information was taken from the June 2007 issue of Edge magazine (UK).

  8. OK, the article isn't as detailed as I thought but here's a summary:

    2000 - $400m+ profit

2001 - $726m profit (Launch of Game Cube and GBA)

    2002 - "... profits remain high"

2003 - Game Cube floundering despite price cut to $99. GBA SP announced.

2004 - "... lowest profits in recent history ($316m)". SP doing well and successful DS launch.

    2005 - $777m profit. DS a runaway success & Revolution announced.

2006 - "Profits rise again." DS Lite & Wii both hugely successful.
