  1. If you kill this thread, it'll spawn two more just like it. Just keep feeding the beast and maybe MK won't come back. Also, more terrifying breakfast cereal ads please.
  2. I've committed to sending mine, will be in the mail to KylJoy in the next couple days-- don't know if more units will help, but thought I'd say so in case KylJoy wants to weigh in/if it changes your personal calculation on this.
  3. I've got a dead (typical screen rot) system I'd donate if you're serious about this. Lemmieknow.
  4. Heh. I mean, I'd buy one but really? Something about a snowball's chance in hell, right?
  5. Eh, the pc technology is a red herring, it's gonna be a famiclone in a sixer shell.
  6. The JVC X-Eye was a noisy beast... not sure if it was worse than the dreamcast, but it certainly sounded more like it was breaking (instead of just accessing the disc) than the DC did.
  7. This thread continues to be top notch. Dare I say, this may be the brightest spot upon the entirety of the Internet? I mean, really-- we've got intrigue, deceit, nostalgia, cutting edge video cards, social media and entrepreneurship, an iPhone app, and now proudly sugary cereals. I'm proud of all of you. PS: someone here needs to forumate the perfect chameleon/MK cereal... I'm thinking that the box may promise oat controllers and marshmallow cartridges, but on the inside, the box would be empty.
  8. Now if they could just get their hands on a Jaguar console mold, they'd really have something.
  9. Kevtris, thank you for all you've done. The NT Mini rocks. Can't wait to see a Z3K when the time comes.
  10. There are more qualified people here to speak to the no of frames of lag / better emulator options than I-- and this is why I said I don't want to derail your thread because I'm sure there's already been tons of discussion on this point and I know it's kind of a contentious topic-- but I'll say this, trying to jump on a turtle or land on a goomba a from on high is damn near impossible if you're at a running pace in SMB3... you basically have to stop and hover over baddies to land on them accurately on the Pi. Forget speed runs. Add in a little more lag for wireless controllers, whatever your HDTV adds, and it's kinda a joke (use your tv's game mode if equipped). That said, Tetris and less timing intensive games play fine. For $60-$80, you can do a RPi3 right (better power supply, overocked, big memory card, etc... maybe add a couple bucks if you need a controller). It's still a totally worthwhile pick-up, but for that kind of system to be at the heart of a $1,000 bar top seems a shame to me.
  11. Without trying to derail this thread, and I hate being this negative about the Pi, but the controller lag inherent on that system is a total deal breaker for me. I love my Retropie setup for the convienvence and access to obscure platforms on my tv, but games like SMB3 are unplayable (or at least frustratingly off) in emulation imho. That said, I'd advocate a RPi for the games that don't suffer too much to enjoy, but maybe rather than getting that pricey bar top, why not save half that money and do a NT Mini and a RPi? The NT Mini make a nice centerpiece and the BT 8Bitdo controllers can do double duty for both systems. That's my $0.10 anyway.
  12. ... sounds like you need to make a film somehow related to retrogaming. Sucks about the divorce; I can't speak to what it's like for the other folks on this board, but my wife is generally supportive of my collecting. The only system she actually enjoys is the NES, she could not care less about my APF M1000, much like I don't give a crap about the awful tv dramas she likes. We have alone time and space and I believe it brings us closer together. I hope your future mate can offer you the same understanding and arrangement. That said, as a media professional myself, I have to wonder if this is the time for you to pour yourself into making a retrogaming film (doc/narrative?). Making a film will consume all of your free time and it may rekindle your passion for your collection. Maybe your collection contains a game that will inspire you. I don't know. I don't want to come off as sophomoric or medaling, but we seem to have a lot in common, just a few twists of fate and I could be in your boat. Hell, I'm even a Mike too. Good luck man. Keep us posted will ya?
  13. Ugh. I hate that I still want one. I know I'd never use it, I'd hate the cord length situation, and I'll never get one because I refuse to pay more than retail for it; but still, I want to put the box on the shelf next to my Generation NEX (also collecting dust).
  14. I heard the Kevtris was in talks with West River Brands to create the Gamate II (not read as 2, but as eye-eye); naturally, it will only play RCA Studio II games and take 12 9-Volt batteries (estimated battery life, :30), but it will come with a wireless headset so you can hear the dead cat as loud as you want without disturbing your neighbors on the Hindenburg.
  15. https://www.facebook.com/8bitdo/<-- used the send message button, posting on their wall had no effect for me.
  16. Had the same problem, though my router was nowhere near the nt mini... Soooooo, I got in touch with them and they even fed me some beta firmware. Stay tuned for more developments: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/263325-analogue-nt-mini-hardware/?p=3732095 Try hitting them up on Facebook via messenger, it takes them until midnight (or later EST) due to their time zone to get a response, but they've actually been very accommodating on FB (but not on their wall, or on their impossible forum, or via their own website)... But seriously, very helpful via Facebook messenger.
  17. Maybe worth mentioning in case anyone else is having difficulty with crosstalk when using their nt mini with the pack-in 8bitdo controller and a second player 8bitdo controller; I was able to get in touch with 8bitdo via Facebook messenger and we've been going back and forth about the two player problem... That said, they sent me new beta firmware to test... the new firmware is an improvement but it's not a complete solution... yet... I'll drop another post on here if they are somehow able to provide a software solution (don't know if it's even technically feasible), but they're making an effort and here's hoping they can come up with a solution... For now, if you've got two controllers working except for occasional un-pairing, the firmware they sent me might be of use. Let me know if you want a link...
  18. You had me at Samsung. You're right-- game mode is not enough, I also turned off the ambient lighting sensor bs in the picture->advanced menu and renamed my input to PC. It seems better now. I can't believe the silliness of that fix. Glad it's nothing to do with the nt mini. Ridiculous Samsung... When will they ever learn?
  19. I'm experiencing dimming issues on darker gameplay screens... I'm in game mode and my TV's eco solution is off-- it's almost as though the black depth is set to a VGA standard and not rec 709. Has anyone else here encountered this and is there a global setting on the nt mini that I'm missing that I should be looking for to prevent this? (maybe I need to double check my TV's firmware?) Thanks all!
  20. Haven't tried this yet but it just occurred to me-- has anyone tried to launch Snail Maze from the SMS core? Would that be packed into the bios, right? If so, it should work regardless of what game you select...
  21. You did, and thanks-- it's just that a port remapping solution would be so elegant in the absence of spectrum partitioning support from 8bitdo. It's not Kevtris' problem, I just wanted to post where he could see it in case this idea was of any interest to him. Anyhow, I'll stop talking about this now, I've got my solution even if it's not ideal. Thanks again.
  22. Big of you to say. That's a definite credit to Analogue.
