Avoid buying from Mod Chip Outlet

They'll probably tell me to file a claim with the Wisconsin BBB. I also filed a claim with the USPS about them. -
Avoid buying from Mod Chip Outlet
frankodragon replied to frankodragon's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I did file a fraud report to Money Gram. I do have the receipt with its reference number. -
Boy do I feel dumb after not researching the web about this business. Located in Menasha, Wisconsin, they sell mod chips via web site (mod-chip.net) and want money orders. Send your money order and they won't send the item(s). Even if you try, their e-mail has been disabled. I filed a complaint which is possibly the only thing I can do but pretty much the money I sent is gone. The next time someone wants money orders, that should raise a red flag. Just don't get burned from this loser business.

Strangest place you've played video games
frankodragon replied to acelkin's topic in Arcade and Pinball
There was a restaurant my mom and I used to go to which had an arcade room tucked in a corner near the restrooms in the back. Anyone who never used the restrooms probably didn't ever even know there was an arcade room. -
I too never finished Final Fantasy VII and later titles. I couldn't finish the english translated Hourai Highschool due to that killer bug in the final boss.

Atari Flashback 4 Review
frankodragon replied to Bill Loguidice's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Just today, I picked up a 40th Anniversary SE Flashback 4 with box and Asteroids poster at a garage sale. Now I have two; one has never been opened. -
The most annoying enemies in classic games
frankodragon replied to mbd30's topic in Classic Console Discussion
In Link to the Past, those thieves in the Dark World that bump into you and take your stuff. And you can't kill them or get your stuff back either. -
Hey, I enjoyed the PMP multicart. If you ever change your mind, I'd be willing to buy a #2.

My Experience Making an Original Xbox Eeprom Reader
frankodragon posted a blog entry in Frankodragon's Blog Stuffs
There are many tutorials describing on how to make an eeprom reader for the original Xbox console and then there are readers you can buy. So thinking after all the projects I've fried over the years, maybe it was better to buy one. Problem is I could get one overseas and pay $20+ for one and maybe use it a few times. So I went ahead and built one following the schematics from this diagram: So to build one, you need: two 3.9K resistors; two 5.1V Zener Diodes, wire, electrical tape or liquid (which I prefer) soldering iron and solder (flux also helps) and one 9 pin db female plug socket. You also need the program PonyProg and an older computer with a COM port. There is a COM to USB cable but some say those aren't reliable. Now be sure the ends of the zeners are correct and double check all of your connections. Again, DOUBLE CHECK YOUR CONNECTIONS! Here's mine and although it's ugly as hell, it works: Before you get more involved, if you have a BROKEN XBOX motherboard, then you need to solder an external 5V power supply. I don't know where to but these instructions are for a WORKING motherboard. So with everything soldered and with PonyProg installed (I use an old Dell machine with Windoze XP) the hardest part was making sure the wire leads were in the right places in one hand so they don't move around while starting the readout on the machine in the other. But wait! According to the schematic above (where I drew a red "X") you have to get the Ground lead onto that socket. Nothing worked. So I was about to give up and probably start a fried electronics graveyard or something. But then I've seen a YouTube video of someone who used the ground wire to touch the side of the housing grill instead. I wrapped the ground wire around that and finally got a reading from the eeprom. (It's hard to see but there's a wire wrapped around the grill on the left.) Keep in mind you may need to hold the wires in place while getting PonyProg to read several times before you get a reading. Better yet, have someone help you. Have them get the reading while you hold the wires down. After that you should get your XBOX serial number in the reading and then save the file as eeprom.bin. I hope this solves that confusion in which others may have had trying to get their eeproms read with little or no luck. -
I actually built one instead even though I thought it'd be another disaster with my soldering but I got it to work.

The GUMBY chips: have they been found yet?
frankodragon replied to Prosystemsearch's topic in Atari 7800
For some reason, Gumby Shat's head doesn't move while the rest of his body is turned around. -
I'm looking for an EEPROM reader/writer to fix an original XBOX. If any one has one for cheap, let me know. Please PM me.

I'm just wondering if I should look at bBasic examples to rely on coding in 7800basic? For one thing, I nearly flunked algebra in high school and looking at the mathematics involved on how it all works makes me bewildered. I do understand movement in X and Y variables from using Multimedia Fusion 2 but that's about it. Anything else, and I have to look, and rely, at other examples.

Then there are those who have lots of time on their hands (and probably money as well) to fry their hard drives and their microwaves: Skip to around 6:00

Homebrew Games like this just piss me off

You could always wait for another game to come like, say, Shatneroids? If it ever comes out on cart. -

I know a dentist who had a Ms. Pac-Man arcade right in the kiddie waiting room. Play before your teeth get drilled. -
What emulator are you using? I use the Prosystem emulator for testing. http://www.zophar.net/a7800/prosystem.html

The most annoying enemies in classic games
frankodragon replied to mbd30's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The enemies of the second part of stage one in Action Fighter for the Master System are a real pain. Without a turbo option on the controller, the planes are very difficult to defeat as they scroll towards you. -
Anyone else have Weird Al's new song, 'Tacky', stuck in their heads?

Using AM's Zelda demo engine I've been designing my own using different sprites, etc, and I'm clueless as to how to move an enemy within a "room." Plus, as your character shoots an enemy, then it should disappear but it just regenerates. I'll admit I'm still a noob when it comes to programming the 7800: A snake is in a room so I've tried to make it move but it won't stay within the room. It'll move out of the room, then reappear. If you go to the next room it'll do the same thing. Then if you kill it with the code above (I even tried it with boxcollision with same results) it just regenerates or just stays there. I think each room does have the same X/Y coordinates so if you send the snake to y=200 (off the screen) it will just reappear again. Is there some sort of "dumping ground" to which you can send the enemies to without having them to regenerate or some sort of timer that will keep them from regenerating? test4.bas

Call it sacrilege, but sandwiches taste better without any condiments.

I'm over my head on this but maybe in the future this would be a good novelty cart or a hidden easter egg on another cart? And yes, I would use benny's hilarious box art. I probably have to invest in a rom burner if I decide to do so.
