Video Game Trader Magazine has released the "Video Game Price Guide" iPhone & iPod Touch application. The introductory price is $0.99 & will provide free updates through the rest of 2009.
You can get it by searching "video game price guide" in either the app store, or iTunes.
Or you can just click here: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore...=8&s=143441
I encourage you to leave your feedback and suggestions as this is just a version 1.0 of the application. However, a couple things being added to the next update: the ability to "check" an item that you have in your collection; and the ability to click on a game and view the VideoGamePriceCharts.com data page for that game.

Will you offer back issues, and your past ezines in print form?AX
We do offer back issues when available. We don't have any back issues, but J2games.com and GoodDealGames.com might. Also, Digital Press might have some of issue #12 left.

What about existing subscribers? How can we get in on the $9.99 renewal deal? Please send me a PM

Ummm... have these been consistant?I was very very dissappointed to order for a year and then only recieve 4 magazines.

I love the magazine but to me, paying for a years worth... only to get 4 at very strange time periods really kind of sucked.
Has this changed?
Hi. I think you might be confusing us with the "other" video game magazine. We started as an online monthly ezine and started printing bi-monthly in September 2008. We print six times per year. Every other month.

UPDATE!!!
I just uploaded the application to the Apple Store. We are going to be offering the first version at an introductory price of just $0.99. I would expect Apple to approve the application in about a week or two.
Currently the application is a simple price guide with search capabilities. The first feature we are going to work on adding is a "checklist" function where you can check which games you have in your collection. This feature will also have a switch that, when turned on, will only list games that are NOT in your collection.
What else would you like the application to do?
-
Starting with Issue #13 the magazine will be full size 8.5 x 11.Each issue features reviews, retrospectives and more. Each issue also contains the Video Game Trader price guide.
Thanks,
Tom
Why the sudden change in page format?
Edit: I really enjoy the handbook format that you established. I wish you the best nonetheless!
I am also partial to the smaller size. But it is very difficult to be taken seriously by the rest of the magazine industry if you are not full size. My goal is to get the magazine in major retail stores and to do that, it needs to be full size.
Thanks for your comments.

I tried to sign up using a credit card - but it won't let me because my email is linked to a paypal account. I would rather just use my credit card # to order. So I guess I cannot order your magazine. Too bad - I was interested.Dustin
Sure you can

Try using an email address not associated with paypal. You can create a free email online if you don't have one. That will let you use a credit card.

The magazine looks cool, but the website makes it kind of difficult to figure out what it's all about IMO. Is it is a paper magazine or a digital-only magazine?I guess I need to change the front page. Sorry about that. Vide Game Trader is a bi-monthly print magazine dedicated to classic video games from Atari 2600 era game to Playstation. We print 6 times per year. The format, up to the last issue, was 5.5 x 8.5.
Starting with Issue #13 the magazine will be full size 8.5 x 11.
Each issue features reviews, retrospectives and more. Each issue also contains the Video Game Trader price guide.
Thanks,
Tom

Thanks for the nice comments.

Please keep voting. But it looks like we are going to release a subscription based application for $2.99 yearly and an application that includes a subscription to the magazine for a higher price. We need to see if the app store will support the 2nd option. Since the Iphone 3.0 software is not out yet, we may offer a $0.99 cent application that will be updated throwout the rest of 2009 and call it VGPrice Guide 2009.Opinions?
Will it really be cost effective for you to update a $0.99 application throughout the year? Approximately how many updates would you be looking at doing for it?
Since we already doing the pricing updates for the magazine, it wont be much work to update a $.99 application. My thoughts and hopes, are that it will get thousands of purchases. I am hoping the price point will encourage the local guy selling his games at the garage sale to download it. So volume is key. If 10 people download the app then it wont be cost affective.
We are also looking to add checklist features and more to future editions of the application if its popular.

VIDEOGAMETRADER.COM NOW MOBILE BROWSER FRIENDLY
Brick, NJ, May 13th, 2009 –
VIDEOGAMETRADER.COM has been upgraded to be more functional on mobile browsers. Specifically Iphone and Ipod touch devices.
Video Game Trader's website utilizes the blog software Wordpress and now uses a plugin called WPtouch to enhance the site on the mobile platform.
From WPtouch's website: "More than just a plugin, WPtouch is an entire theme package for your WordPress website. Modeled after Apple's app store design specs, WPtouch makes your WordPress website load lightning fast on touch mobile devices, show your content beautifully, all while not interfering with your regular theme."
For those that want to enjoy the "full version" of VideoGameTrader.com, there is a MOBILE on/off switch at the bottom of the page.
This upgrade is the first part of Video Game Traders' mobile strategy. Next up will be their Iphone/Ipod touch application due out this summer.

I realize that some other people feel differently about this, but I'm usually willing to have some not-very-intrusive ads in order to have a free or greatly reduced in price app. If this is something you can/would consider, maybe that would be another appropriate poll question.I'm not going to vote, because I'd have no problem paying a couple bucks for this (with or without ads), whereas free would be better. Pushing it up to close to $10 though, and I'd probably pass. Maybe put a $2-3 option in the poll since many apps cost about that much. Not saying it's not worth more necessarily, that's just me.

Thanks for the comments. I guess one of the issues I am facing, when it comes to pricing, is at what price point will I stop getting magazine subscribers. I don't want a situation where someone subscribes to the $3 Iphone application instead of subscribing to the magazine.
I am actually considering two option via the Iphone store. One to subscribe to the application at whatever price point we pick, and one that also includes the magazine subscription for $24.99 (basically making the application free for anyone that subscribes to the magazine)

Hello,
Video Game Trader is set to release an Iphone Price Guide application. This app will allow you to access our price guide without needing an active internet/network connection, except for price updates. We are due to release this application around July/August.
We are at the point in development where we need to start thinking about how much to charge.
Thanks for taking the time to answer the poll.
Sincerely,
Thomas Sansone
PS. Starting with Issue #13 (Aug/Sept), shipping in July, the magazine will be full size.

I picked up a copy of Prehistoric Times at Too Many Games and sent it along to my trusty Home Brew reviewer. I will try to get it in the next issue (#13, July 2009) of Video Game Trader. Peter can be pretty harsh on bad games. We shall see.
I did play it for about 4 seconds.. It looks interesting and is actually pretty challenging. We shall see.
Thanks,
Tom Sansone

Hello everyone,
I thought I give you all a preview of our next issue. It is Star Trek themed. Comments and Sugggestions are always welcome.

-
My apologies for never having read your mag, going to correct that ASAP but I was just wondering how you do the price guide? Do you list every game possible with a price? If so, why not do something like the old trading card mags did (not sure if they still do it) and only list the harder to find or popular titles with prices and put a 'commons' price quote for unlisted games. Thanks for the post. We currently list all game but are looking to change this. That is why we posts the question. I welcome your comments.

Hello everyone,
Video Game Trader is celebrating its 1 year anniversary. Woo Hoo!! We are still alive and kicking! Anyway, as the price guide grows, it takes up more space. I would like to ask all of you to vote on the consoles that you feel do not need to be included in every issue. Keep in mind we publish every 2 months. If you vote for a particular system, that does not mean we wont cover it. It just means that the price guide for that system may not show up in every issue. If you feel that ALL systems need to be included every issue, please post a comment. If we missed any systems that you think should be included, even if not every issue, please let us know.
Here are the list of systems we cover:
Atari 2600
Atari 5200
Atari 7800
Atari Jaguar / Jaguar CD
Atari Lynx
Nintendo NES
Super Nintendo
Nintendo 64
Game Cube
Wii
Game Boy B&W
Game Boy Color
Game Boy Advance
Nintendo DS
Nintendo Virtual Boy
Sega Master System
Sega Genesis / Sega CD / Sega 32X
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast
Sega Game Gear
PSOne (Playstation)
