  1. Utterly ludicrous. If shovelware was going to bring about a crash, it wouldve destroyed the handheld market long ago. IF a crash happens within the forseeable future, it will be caused by an attempt to release a console by EA, even then it's a worst case scenario and would only be temporary.
  2. Yeah a lot of people echoed that sentiment, myself included. It just felt like more levels for HL2. It's very short, and basicly an expansion pack equivilent of more levels, the last two scenes are definately memorable and fun however. Whereas Episode 2 feels like a whole new game and is a thrill ride from start to finish both action and plotwise.
  3. I'm a HUGE Half Life fan, and so was overjoyed to see the Orange Box package coming to 360 (Im also a points whore ) And while im no stranger to FPS games on both a mouse and keyboard, and a controller, for the most part it makes little difference, but the inherent inaccuracy of the controller means that the difficulty of some of the challenges in Portal have been artificially hiked. I can easily achieve gold on the PC version, but can barely get bronze on the console version. Regardless, Orange Box is not only value for money, but that fact that HL2 alone stands up to most of the games coming out now speaks volumes for it's quality (Its what... 4 or 5 years old now? Getting something like that) I snapped it up on release without a second though despite already owning HL2 and Ep 1 on PC (My PC is not good enough for playing Ep2 on full graphics settings which is why i went for the xbox 360 version) Episode 1 seems a bit filler, and people will probably be dissapointed, but Ep2 more than makes up with it, it's EPIC beyond Epic.
  4. Take a trip into the desert and dig up a million copies of E.T. Hehe, but seriously, i can only repeat what the other guys have said, it's down to you to decide what sort of things you want to collect, i also recently started and i decided that im mostly going to be playing them instead of hardcore collecting, so im not going to be rummaging through carboots and lofts trying to find Gamma Attack or Zoo Fun etc. But i will be looking for the rarer games that i enjoy playing that wont break the bank. Although i do like to collect things so i will probably end up trying to collect a copy of everything rarity 4 or below, not an impossible goal but it will give me something to work towards that isnt going to cost the world.
  5. Im talking about the 360 version in my post. The problem isnt so much the aiming, just the total lack of hit detection at close range, bullets just seem to fly past your enemies if you are very close and dont connect half the time. I dont like the game 'a lot' but it's a solid FPS with some major flaws. But it's definately not a good start to bringing back the series, seeing as they totally ignored the series plot elements and 'did their own thing'. In fact the only thing that carries over from previous titles in the series is Dinosaurs and the name Turok. Evolution was a better 'Turok' game than Turok. Even if it was terrible. Personally i feel a new generation Turok game should be something similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl rather than a bog standard FPS. Although after this the series will probably lay dormant for a long time.
  6. I bought it, but mainly because i love Ron Perlmans voice acting (Same reason i nearly subjected myself to Conan) I played the Demo so i knew what faults i was letting myself in for, but i have the exact opposite problem to you, targeting things far away is fine, but then something is right up in your face, it's like the gun just doesnt want to hit them at all, and the bullets take every opportunity to swerve in whichever direction results in not hitting your opponent. Combined with all the 'cool' screen shaking and being knocked the the floor during Dino fights and it's incredibly frustrating, not to mention boring, and sometimes pot luck to fight them. Pretty much the only option is to use the knife, and in a similar fashion to Gears of War, hope to god the other Dino stops biting you after you come out of the (BAD) animation otherwise you'll die. The combat is a mess, and the visuals are nice, but theres something not quite right about them. Y'know, i dont know how to explain it, but they certainly look pretty, but in the same way, it all looks the same and if you spend too long focusing on the screen to aim at an enemy, you could swear the screen is just a mess of green/grey. Overall, i think it's a big step up from Evolution and Rage Wars, but by no means is it a good addition to the series, especially with it's complete departure from anything story related including the Lost Land and it's inhabitants. In fact, the only thing it does keep is the Turok name being passed on to a native american indian, even then it seems somewhat of an afterthought. And as for the crazy weapons in the familiar Turok style the developers promised, all we got was a Flamethrower and a flare launching Shotgun... Someone hand me my Cerebral Bore, im'a teach these devs a thing or two.
  7. Yeah that seems to happen a lot with games that came with maps. Alundra for PS1 springs to mind as a good example, it's value increases drasticly if it has the manual and both the hint book and the map. I've had to have 3 copies myself (On two previous ocasions the game has been stolen from me :\) and each time it becomes harder to find one with all the bits for an acceptable price. The third time i have to give up and take one without the hint book.
  8. This sort of thing gets discussed all the time, but its the same across the board for me. Everything CAN be a piece of art, but not everything in that bracket always is. For example, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy VII, Mass Effect, Bioshock etc etc i consider to be works of Art. Yearly Fifa games i do not. Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates, One Hour Photo, Apocalypse Now, The Shawshank Redemption, Monty Pythons Life of Brian etc, i consider to be works of art. Pirates of the Caribbean, Narnia and Golden Compass i do not. But then everything like this is a matter of opinion, as far is i am concerned, if the developer (or actors, or writer, or artist etc) puts in a great deal of effort, and it is visible in the work, then that's all that matters.
  9. Ohh i never knew that. All the games i have except Sonic and Knuckled are in plastic cases.
  10. I know this is vaguely off topic but... Mega Drive boxes? O_o I thought Mega Drive games all came in those plastic cases, at least the only ones i've ever seen in the UK did.
  11. Another few pickups today, not such a bad haul PS1 wise, but not fantastic. My local store told me they are getting rid of all there retro stuff so it looks like charity shops and carboots are my only option now. (Oxfam wanted £10+ for their SMS and SNES games! Fine they are boxed, but jeeese...) Bloody Roar 2 Tenchu Silent Bomber Dune Soul Blade (Platinum ) Breath of Fire IV Resident Evil Gun Survivor Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Duke Nukem Duke Nukem Time to Kill Pong The guy wanted something crazy, i think it was £60 to start with, but he was in a good mood as he just had a deliver of Wii's sell so i haggled him down to £21 for the lot and a few 2600/NES games thrown in. (Realsports Tennis silver lable being the only one of any kind of note) I also got Lost Kingdom and Phantasy Star 1, 2 and 3 for Gamecube but i paid a pretty hefty price for those :s
  12. There doesnt seem to be any at that sort of price at all. In good boxed condition, with all the accessories the cheapest one i could find was around $200. I guess i'll keep an eye out at $60-100 is not much of a problem, but anything over $200 is not only expensive, but a problem to conjure out of thin air
  13. Tried every last game, have you? Pretty much, friend of mine is a Wii nut and has everything, pretty much. The only other game out at the moment (I currently have MUA, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, TP and Mario Galaxy) i would play is No More Heroes. There are a lot of great multiplayer games, but not a lot of good single player games. I really wanted to enjoy Red Steel, but it was just rubbish, and Metroid Prime 3 i just couldnt get into. Looking forward to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Dragon Quest Swords though.
  14. Wait what the? April 07? O_o This was on the latest threads window at the bottom of the page, so i guess i didnt think to look at the date.
  15. Not sure if this is the right place, i would've posted in the wanted subsection of the marketplace, but im not actually looking for one right now as i dont have the money, i just want to know roughly how much i should be looking to save. R.O.B The Robot Couple of questions, was he ever available in the uk? And how much would i expect to pay for a near mint, fully boxed deluxe NES complete with all the bits? I'm confused as i've seen them rangin wildly on eBay, between $300 and $800 and even higher, so i have no idea it's actual value. Cheers.
  16. Edited: Woop ended XD I should read entire threads before posting.
  17. Bit's are misleading, and can often refer to many different components and so are not a good gauge of how powerful something is. Also, didnt Comadore already make a comeback making custom gaming PCs? similar to Alienware PCs.
  18. See the other thread for more opinions on EA and the future. This trend only makes it MORE likely that EA will attempt to rule the games industry with their own console. If they keep buying out publishers like this, then their influence in the industry will be more than massive, it could potentially be almost total.
  19. The more publishers i see EA buy out, the more i think this will happen. If they were just buying out developers, then thats easily explainable, but buying out publishers wholesale, is a very very... interesting thing to be doing. Once they aquire the rights to a huge number of franchises, as well as the yearly franchises the general public just love such as all those sports games, then they have such a huge amount of power that withdrawing all that support from the main console manufacturers could potentially drive them all out of the videogame business. Which means if EA does make their own console, and it doesnt take off, the industry will be in crash mode until they can hit the reset button and come out with another NES. edit: again, this is bleak worst case. But it's entirely possible and quite plausable. So enjoy video games while you can kids!
  20. The controller itself i personally find very easy to use and comfortable, but i like it no more or less than a regular controller. I too have had a Wii since launch, and have been sorely dissapointed with owning one, the VC is being misused and needs drastic changes (Prices are wayyy too high in europe, and they missed a bomb of an opportunity by not release unreleased games such as the Contra series, which was released here, but majorly censored and underwent a name change to Probotector) I have/dont want or feel the VC games are too expensive, so while i bought a few, i am not happy with it overall. I feel Nintendo's first major Wii effort (Twilight Princess) was a shot in the foot for Nintendo, it made atrocious use of the Wii controls, looked bad for a graphical representation of the Wii's power, and just played as any other Zelda game. While Mario Galaxy was soooooo much better, and is in my opinion the BEST Mario game since Super Mario World, thats it, that is the only game worth buying on the Wii except maybe No More Heroes. Everything else is either better on another console, or only fun if you have 3 friends at your side each time you play it. (Wario Ware and Raving Rabbids for example, brilliant games but i wouldnt want to play them on my own) I would love to see more games developed properly with the Wii controls, but given the choice of a port, the ONLY game i chose on the Wii over the 360 was Marvel Ultimate Alliance because its so much fun multiplayer. But even then i want to buy the 360 version for the extra characters and points. Ports are simply not worth bothering, developers have been for the most part very lazy, and simply ported the PS2 version of whichever game it is most of the time, not even bothering to take advantage of the extra power the Wii has over the PS2. Although the casual market couldnt give two hoots about that it seems. I only have 4 Wii games, and 3 of those i regret buying. (One i had and was so disgusted with, i sold 3 days after launch, Call of Duty 3, it was exactly the same as the PS2 version, but with Wii controls.)
  21. Nintendo will stay in the business and probably release something nobody predicted, that is if the Wii doesnt last forever. However, my prediction for the future is a little more of a grim, worst case scenario. While i would like the traditiona "Highers D's!!" and "More Bits!!" etc, i have a nasty creeping feeling that EA will pull all of it's support for the major players, and release it's own console in an attempt to fulfill it's own "One console world" vision. Which will either make EA all powerfull, or devestate the games industry, neither of which i think any of us wants. Hopefully i am very very wrong.
  22. I picked up some bargains at my local video games store, they are the kind of store who if they dont know what the game is, it's worthless. So they are trying to sell Atari 2600 Mario Bros for £60 cart only But i picked up the following for 20p (Buy one get one free!!! So 10p each! Cart only though) NES: GOAL! 10-Yard Fight Tennis Turbo Racing Blades of Steel California Games (Manual too) Super Mario bros/Duck Hunt Wild Gunman (My friend who got their first got Castlevania, Snakes Revenge and Metroid!!! ) SNES: Super SFII (NTSC) Super Gameboy Lemmings and a bunch more commons. I also got Sonic Spinball for £1, with a free Flashback ( both in good nick) and Shadow Dancer (Shinobi 2) also for a pound.
  23. That's pretty insane imo. Although SNES stuff is in my experience, considerably more expensive than any NES or Atari stuff, i don't know why, but i'm happy to pay £5-15 for stuff like Bubble Bobble or a boxed good condition Tetris for NES, but for Super NES, common games like Probotector: Alien Rebels (Contra 3) or Link to the Past commonly go for £20-25 with a mashed up box. I think it's just nostalgia, as a lot of people who grew up with the SNES are just about getting into the real workplace and earning real money (I know i am) and as a result, are throwing it around. I can understand why Atari/NES and PS1 are collectable, Atari is self explanatory, NES not only had some great games, but is practicly single handedly responsible for the way we play games today, and the PS1 again, set the world on fire and has some brilliant games. But is also very popular with RPG collectors (I know i'd love to get my hands on Xenogears, or Legend of Dragoon etc etc, best i have is non platinum FFVII) The SNES will drop again in a few years and maybe the N64 or Dreamcast will see a surge in collectability, i was happy to get The Nomad Soul (Omikron in the states) for £13.99, but then that wasnt to collect, i actually needed a copy to play. edit: That problem i mentioned also really tends to tick me off, games like Megaman X/2/3/etc, Final Fantasy, Final Fight, Flashback, Another World etc etc, although dirt common, are fantastic games, and people seem to want a very high price for them based on that reason alone. When by all accounts, any collector would just go "Common" and chuck it in the commons box, nostalgic people will pay a high price for them so it drives the price up. Hopefully, in a few years Mega Man X's will be floating around like Pac Mans and Donkey Kong's.
  24. And they built their own engine for it. Top stuff And yes, you should play those games Or, wait for the re-release of Riddick, they are remaking it for the 360 with an extra story afterwards (instead of making a seperate game they decided that although the critical response was good, the sales didnt reflect this and they want more people to experience the game, as well as expanding the story of the character Riddick. I forget the name of the sequal portion, it's been a while since i researched it)
  25. Some of the current PS2 RPGs are hard enough to find. But yeah things like Persona 3 (especially PAL, as it's only just coming out here next weekend) will shoot up in value later on. Although i plan to keep my copy anyway. Anything with a low production run is generaly worth a fair amount later on, especially if its a good game. I'm still trying to get hold of another copyf of the first Discworld game, which my family sold at a carboot for £2 *angryface*
