  1. Hey folks, quick question... My PS3 Super Slim system has a squeaky disc drive. It works perfectly fine, but whenever the disc comes to a halt (like when opening the drive cover), it lets out a very audible squeaking noise.  Before I go an shoot some DW-40 contact cleaner in there, I thought I'd ask the experts first 👍.

    Thanks for your time,

  2. Hey folks,

Hoping someone can shed some light on this soldering newbie.  I have an old radio shack 64-053 60w Soldering station. Unfortunately I'm missing the actual Iron, and would like to buy a replacement.  Do I need to buy an iron made specifically for this soldering station? Or can I buy any old iron that looks like it fits? If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated 👍

    Thanks very much,

    Retromangia

  3. Thanks Fiddle, but I've just had too many bad experiences with goo gone. It's strong stuff, and definitely has it's purpose. I mostly use it for plastic DVD cases and it works great on those.

For Cardboard, I'm contemplating using Windex Electronic wipes... they're ammonia free, and have less chemicals then the normal Windex Window wipes. They're also just damp enough which i like.

    Here's the link

Anyone else use wipes?... thoughts please! ;-)

  4. Hey everyone,

I've been researching this topic for some time now, but still haven't come to the best conclusion. What I'd like to know is.... what is the best way to wipe clean your retro video game boxes to get rid of dirt and grime.

Sticker and marker are probably going to stay there forever, I'll just have to accept that. My question is..What's the best method to remove surface dirt & grime without damaging the box?

Any suggestions would be really appreciated! ;-)

  5. Hey Atari gang,

I recently purchased a well used (and abused) PS1 Analog Joystick. You know, the big jombroni flight stick with dual joysticks. Unfortunately the cord has a nice cut in it, right by the base of the joystick. Surprisingly the thing works perfectly.

I was wondering if anyone had a good idea on how to keep this beast from getting worse.

I've included a few pictures to give you a better idea.... Thanks in advance for any suggestions! ;-)

  6. Hey Atari dudes,

I have a quick question about using a UK component in the USA. I recently bought a QED SCART to Component transcoder box off ebay, so i can play my retro games through SCART for true video bliss ;)

I could of bought one of those cheap chinese knock off's they sell in America... but why settle ya know?

Here is a picture of the Scart box & AC Adapter I purchased:

    post-18551-0-90068100-1407230188_thumb.jpg

Anyhow, this box uses a UK style plug. At first, all I thought that I needed was a simple cheap plug adapter like this: http://www.amazon.com/Ceptics-Grounded-Universal-Plug-Adapter/dp/B0080SE6H2/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t

However, after doing more research, I realized that I may need to buy a Step Up/Down Voltage converter, since the adapter only states 230VAC.

So I found 2 on amazon... please tell me what you think is best, and do i even need one of these?

    1st choice:

    http://www.amazon.com/VCT-VT-100UK-Converter-Transformer-Products/dp/B000N54DGO/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

    2nd choice:

    http://www.amazon.com/Power-Bright-VC100W-Voltage-Transformer/dp/B000MWAKVU/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

Any info would be greatly appriciated!

    Thanks guys,

  7. Hey thanks guys... I'll look into different font options, and see if I can double up the background for a full 16:9 view.

As for editing software... your going to laugh, but I'm using an old version of Pinnacle Stuidio Pro 11.

I had it lying around, and it was easy enough to learn on... The more i'm using it though, I'm starting to see it's limitations... So i went ahead and found a copy of Pinnacle Studio 15 HD. Hopefully it's similar to the older version, but I'm looking forward to the enhancements for my next video.

  9. Hey thanks, I appreciate the feedback... and you know what.. your absolutely right ;)

When I was making the first video, the stack of CD's was so high, it started blocking my light source!

Also after uploading episode 2, I also realized that next time I should take the time to capture footage directly. I actually own a capture device, but It forces me to play the game in a small capture window. However, it's totally worth it. My next video's will be captured directly from the console itself.

  10. Hey Folks,

I wanted to get the word out on my new youtube channel. This has been something I've wanted to do for such a long time, and last night I finally got my first video up. If you like the CD-i, I suggest you head on over and check it out now icon_smile.gif

My video's will focus on all area's of Gaming. I'll be posting great deals and pickup videos, and then awesome review's on those great treasures I find. I want to be informative, and helpful to others, as well as make you laugh all the same time. I really think you'll enjoy.

My First couple of videos will be focusing on the Philips CD-i. Although far from the greatest system, this system still needs some love! I think YouTube has enough reviews of Super Mario 3 don't you? icon_wink.gif

    thanks for watching,
