Hi, everybody. I'd like to know if somebody here has information on the Atari 7800 being released by Polyvox/Gradiente in Brazil. It's a bit weird (first, because I'm brazilian), since I remember, circa 1990, TV ads here saying something like "Ask Atari", and then displaying the screen of the game Xevious (was it a dream - wait, I didn't know 7800 by that time). I know we had the "Phantom System", by Gradiente (owner of Polyvox) wich was a NES under a 7800 hood (wich I own 2), and I think it's way too much coincidence that there were those TV ads (or am I crazy?) and then they release that strange mix between NES and 7800. What do you know/think about it? Could be possible that Gradiente/Polyvox first intend to release 7800, and then changed to NES internals, due to this console popularity?

Strengths of the Atari 2600 over Intellivision?
Rodrigo replied to rhindlethereddragon's topic in Atari 2600
Controls and popularity. Back then, here in Brazil, almost nobody had the Intellivision. Videogames are like any popular electronic gadget kids buy today: if you don't have one, then you are out. And the joysticks. I had a friend who had an Intellivision, and remeber that nobody liked the joystick design, it was no good. -
Just bought one, 5 minutes ago. Hope it arrives well in Brazil. Anyways, I'm selling most of my collection, and this Harmony cart will be perfect, because I can sell all my carts and still have the games, and still play them on a real Atari whenever I feel the desire to do so. Thanks man ! I saw videos, read some posts, some reviews, and it seems like a killing product. The price is right, and, unlike oh so many sellers on eBay, you're not trying to rape a brazilian guy on shipping. Thanks for being honest. Carlos Bragatto Brazil I second that. I'm also from Brazil and amazed with the fair price/shipping of this product. Just waiting for mine, that I bought a few days ago. Congrats for all the people who worked on it. Rodrigo.

Here in Brazil the only real 2600 competitor was the Intellivision (we had the Odissey 2, but it's much more rare). And I don't remember any advertisement for it. I had a friend who always tried to prove the Inty superiority, but I just remember the awfull controllers. And the lack of games (here). The 2600 had everything: good controllers, lots of games, at least onde kid in your neighborhood had one. Today, the 2600 is still a symbol of vintage videogaming here.

I like Atari 2600 because when I want to have fun I just have to turn it on and get instant action. I have the feeling that modern games aren't like this anymore. And it's impossible deny that the better graphics have enormous influence when comparing modern games to vintage, specially if the person growth using only the modern ones.

"Hey, it's not so bad!" The Official 'Bad Games You Actually Liked' Thread
Rodrigo replied to 4Ks's topic in Atari 2600
I've read bad things about Kung Fu Master, but I like it, it's challenging, and has good graphics. -
I agree with DracIsBack. These days I've just browsed http://www.virtualapple.org/, and I can say Apple II software graphics looked uglier than the real thing (computer using a TV instead monitor). I also searched for any reviews in Youtube wich used a real TV set for 7800, but there are very few (like , so we can conclude that they used emulators for the most, and so did with the screenshots that exists, resulting in ugly images.

I had similar problem with my brazilian 4-switch. Tried everything related to paddles, nothing worked. I fixed it by replacing the C010444 chip. Now paddles work fine. Sorry my English.

Witness the Atari Age! The golden age of crap.
Rodrigo replied to Random Terrain's topic in Atari 2600
Wow, he sure can write a run on sentence! It takes a real genius to write that, I bow at his superior intelligence that was able to deduce that an Atari 2600 cannot technologically compare to todays machines....that's some massive brain power. He is the same guy who deduced the Lamborghini Gallardo is more advanced than the Ford T! -

The time is a great teacher. We´re still talking about Atari 2600 30 years after it was released. And they still have to write about Atari 2600 now as an argument to prove the value of other machines - see, they can't ignore it. It's a fact. I don't believe the same thing will happen to any other game system again. Sorry my english. -
phe·nom·e·non 1. a fact, occurrence, or circumstance observed or observable: to study the phenomena of nature. 2. something that is impressive or extraordinary. 3. a remarkable or exceptional person; prodigy; wonder. 4. Philosophy. a. an appearance or immediate object of awareness in experience. [Origin: 1595–1605; < LL phaenomenon < Gk phainómenon appearance, n. use of neut. of phainómenos, prp. of phaínesthai to appear, pass. of phaínein to show] —Synonyms 1. event, incident. 2, 3. marvel, miracle. —Usage note As with other plurals of Latin or Greek origin, like media and criteria, there is a tendency to use the plural phenomena as a singular (This phenomena will not be seen again), but such use occurs infrequently in edited writing. The plural form phenomenas, though occasionally seen, has even less currency. I think "Atari 2600" is a phenomenon !
