It'd be cool to have a "Best of Antic" cart with several of the original Antic type-in games. I loved JD Casten's games, especially Escape from Epsilon!
Unfortunately any programs written in Basic can't be translated unless they are compiled in a basic compiler first. Probably too much work.

Those both look sweet btw!
But I still prefer these:
That 5200 Tapper is fantastic. Did you make that yourself or did somebody else here on AA make that? Very cool.

I don't have Kangaroo but my Ms. Pac Man sounds fine through my s-video upgraded 5200.

A few months ago I cleaned out a garage of a former computer store owner and one of things I got were boxes and boxes of ANALOG, ANTIC, STart, other magazines. Some of them are new and shrinkwrapped, most of them are in really great shape, but some are a little musty. Question is, what do I do with them?
I don't want to throw them out, but I really don't want to keep them either. Are they worth anything? I was thinking about bringing a box or two to Philly and selling them for $1 a piece or something.

That sounds like a great idea. What other magazines do you have other than Analog, Start, and Antic?

Very cool! Thanks. What chess game is this? Is this the one from Compute! magazine?

Funny that someone discovered this now, Bryede told me about this a couple of weeks ago.

Any more of that code commented?

I think the Al's need to update the programmers section for this game.

To bad about his Sony Playstation controller adapter. That would have been nice.
Yeah what ever happened to that anyway?

If you didn't see it already, here's Clay's latest responce.

I thought Crystal Castles already was converted for the 5200? I was actually gettin ready to post and ask if anyone had played with the 5200 trackball and see if it's worth it to have made into a cart. The 800 version is great!
Is this the four screen demo that Clay posted here about 6 months ago your talking about? That one doesn't work with the trackball. He was trying to get it to work with it but haven't heard anything in a while. To bad about his Sony Playstation controller adapter. That would have been nice.

Well, If anybody's willing to make some bumper stickers of it, I can send a high-res scan to them.

How can you not mention "ML for beginners" from Compute! I thought these were great intro books to the world of assembly.
These are good but Atari Roots and Atari Assembly Language are better because they are Atari 8-bit specific.

Now it's just up to the wanna-be programmer (me) to figure out what to do. Oh, I seemed to have gotten lost somewhere around Chapter 2 (not a good sign) in "De Re Atari." Is there an easier book to start with (maybe someone's already suggested one)? "Mapping the Atari?" You'd be correct to assume that I know almost NOTHING about programming, keep in mind...
De Re Atari isn't the best book to start with especially if you're new to programming. Go to www.atariarchives.org and try :
http://www.atariarchives.org/alp/
or
http://www.atariarchives.org/roots/
Plus you'll have to learn to use a compiler like Dasm or Tasm on you're PC.
When you've mastered these mostly you can then use:
http://www.atariarchives.org/dere/
and
http://www.atariarchives.org/agagd/
and
http://www.atariarchives.org/mapping/
and the many other books at http://www.atariarchives.org/ .
A lot of time was spent getting these books online for people just like you so that you may one day write some great programs. Don't let us down.
Speaking of sports titles on the 5200, I would love to see other sports titles like Hockey, Bowling, Skiing, as well as any other sports. A Hockey would be really cool.

And another plus for starting with the computers...With the 5200 or 8-bit you can test your code on the emulator which is a great help, but being able to test on real hardware will help once your program starts to get more complex.
The 5200 is the unloved Atari. Emulation is almost exclusively contained to Atari computer emulators, and is often shoved in as an afterthought, making it difficult if not impossible to use(I've seen people recommend 5200 emulators that don't even emulate the 5200 controller before).
I kind of disagree here. Although that was true at one time, the Atari800MacX emulator emulates the 5200 just as well as the 8-bit computers. The controls for the 5200 stick seem great to me. Just as good as the 8-bits. As far as the 'unloved atari' goes, that definately is the 7800, since 'homebrews' for this game system are almost non-existant compared to the 2600, the 5200, the Lynx and the Jauguar.

Thanks JayoK for all that work. I think though that there might be an easier solution. I know some people have mentioned that they have used this printer with great results before. All I did was LPRINT something from BASIC. I will try to hunt down a printer driver for AtariWriter next. I'll try your solution if that fails.

I'm trying to get my HP Laserjet 4P working with my 130XE. I got it to print 'Hello' but it doesn't want to do a carriage return. It prints all the lines on one line. Does anybody know what I need to do to get it to print correctly? Some option on the printer maybe? I'm using a Supra Corp. MPP-1150 Parallel Printer interface.

Got the controller working A little bit flaky but it works, now just need to fix the sound
It might be your video switchbox. Are you using the original 5200 style switchbox? If you have a two port you can use other switchboxes to see if that's it.

I think the magazine HI-RES had a very limited run. It seems that according to Leonard Herman's book, the magazine ran from November 1983 to about June 1984.
All published issues are on-line at www.atarimagazines.com . A fifth issue was in the works but was never published.

You know, Tapper seems like a natural for a 5200, especially with the style of joystick that comes standard. You could really get the arcade feel of pulling that handle in a way no other emulator comes close to! I might have to install a metal railing around my 5200 and a Budweiser sign hanging over the TV it's hooked up to if you finish the game.
New 5200 controller announced! CX59 Pub/Bar controller. Comes with four long bars, four tap handles, four kegs, and four mugs. Hook up your 5200 to a projection screen, set up CX59 accessories and the fun will begun!
*Not recommended for children under 21.
*Not recommended for people with heart conditions.

3)Once a wire is put in the molex connector, can it be removed? If so, how?
I did this by accident and would advise against it if possible.
Ditto! I did this also and was able to get it out but I could see how if I wasn't very careful I could break. Be patent and wait to do it right.

Personally I think Millipede is great. I love the 5200 version, especially with the track-ball.
Ditto! Millipede is one of my top 10 favorite 5200 games. This game makes the track-ball shine.

What titles would help fill out the 5200 library?
