  1. Isn't it a bit unfair to count Asterix and Taz as two different games on this list, while in reality they are the European and U.S. release of the same game?
  2. Back from day 1 of the Nordstern festival - very tired now.

  3. To add to this: this hack/patch has already been applied to several games (e.g. Drol, Lode Runner, Aztec (didn't work too well there, since the objects are intended to be monochrome), see here (that list is incomplete though): http://atari.fandal.cz/search.php?search=color+version&butt_details_x=
  4. This should help: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=4791
  5. Beamrider looks very ugly on the XE, I prefer the VCS version. And then of course there's title's like Cosmic Ark, Frostbite, Pressure Cooker, Subterranea, etc. that are exclusive to the VCS. But generally speaking, I prefer the XE versions.
  6. Surprisingly suffered a deep vein thrombosis last night and spent the day searching for an appropriate doctor first (who would accept me this shortly prior to the end of the quartal) and then was sent to a hospital where I spent four hours waiting for a diagnosis.

It's the other way round, actually - Germany was the first country to build up a system of compulsory health insurance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_in_Germany. I only am member of a law-enforced health insurance company (i.e. fees are deducted from my paycheck before the money is wired to my account). This system has its flaws (aforementioned buerocracy), but at least I can see any doctor and pay a max. fee of €10, and medication is also heavily subsidized (I paid €...

  7. Hamburg has only one skyscraper (the Radisson Blu with a height of 108 meters), you can see almost all of Hamburg from the planetarium's balcony, and the Hamburg planetarium is just a early 20th century water tower (with the usual decadent features of buildings from the Wilhelmian period, i.e. artificial waterfalls and basins and a open view axis through the city park). The usual height of Hamburg inner city buildings is five storeys, and any photo showing Hamburg's skyline will depict the main churches (esp. St. Michaelis) as the highest buildings, since these are either shot from the Elbe river or from south of the river. Drawing will often include the Köhlbrand bridge and the Heinrich Hertz tower.
  8. Seems someone read Keith Laumer novels very thoroughly to come up with that concept...
  9. As I announced last week, I am downsizing my Lynx collection and my Jaguar collection - trying to get rid of those games that only collect dust on my shelf: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%2Fsch%2Fthorsten_guenther2%2Fm.html As I want to offer cheaper shipping on the more common titles, I have not added PayPal to all the auctions, but will of course accept PayPal if the buyer agrees to upgrade to registered shipping instead of plain air mail. I will of course combine shipping on multiple purchases!
  10. Trying out the eBay Seller: thorsten_guenther2 ebayseller tag - wonder if it also shows items without PayPal as the "preferred" means of payment. Ah, as I suspected - it doesn't!
  11. Racing Destruction Set - still wondering how they managed to implement choppy scrolling like that on a machine that has hardware scroll registers for all directions... Oh, and The Last V8 - incredibly hard due to the small vertically visible area, and stupidly short if you ever watched the Youtube video.
  12. Got my tickets for the Nordstern Open Air http://www.nordstern-festival.de/ ...

  13. fter three matches, I favour the Danish team in the FIFA Euro championship now. They have the least number of idiot fans chasing their cars through the streets with continously honking horns after a win. Shortly followed by Russia (one idiot yesterday).

unexploded ordnance - in this case, the first of two WWII allied aerial bombs detected on wednesday was defused, making it necessary to block the A7 autobahn and the Köhlbrand bridge during the process. A third UXO (a mortar grenade) was also reported on wednesday, disposed off by it's owner in a carport!

  15. AFAIK, this game is mediocre. If you want a good arcade-like racer, go for Vroom or its sequels Vroom Multi-Player or F1 (Domark). And then there's always Microprose's masterpiece by Geoff Crammond.
  16. Do mainly joystick controlled games count? My 25 titles then would be - in no particular order: Star Raiders Rescue on Fractalus Defender Yoomp! Bandits Encounter! Boulder Dash Animal Party Fort Apocalypse Unicum Archon II: Adept M.U.L.E. Cytron Masters Cavelord Spelunker Gyruss Drol Flip and Flop Stealth The Last Starfighter Spy vs. Spy Kennedy Approach Necromancer River Raid Wizard of Wor
  17. Not quite "hoarding", but "collective". Sleepy ordered the 10 units for several members of the ABBUC forum (including me), of which some have rather limited to nonexistant English language skills. Thorsten
  18. I am selling off part of my Lynx collection - those titles that are only collecting dust on my shelf. Will also add some Jaguar titles next week. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%2Fsch%2Fthorsten_guenther2%2Fm.html Due to the fact that I am only accepting PayPal payments in combination with registered shipping (due to PayPal's terms of service) and their fees are too high for low-cost items, you will not see all of my items on ebay.com/.co.uk/.com.au. Of course, I will accept PayPal from anyone outside the Euro zone if an upgrade to registered (i.e. trackable) shipping is accepted. Thorsten
  19. Thank you Chelsea for completing Bayern München's triple losing streak!

  20. The 800XE is also very common in Germany (not only in the former GDR i.e. behind the Iron Curtain) - it was sold here instead of the 65XE (although this is AFAIK just a differently labelled machine, as the European 65XEs have the ECI).
  21. Well, the pink panzer was hidden beneath a blanket when we were there. Interesting visit, and much less cloth afterwards when we attended a sauna for some hours (and yes, we Europeans use saunas naked).

  22. Gonna visit the Panzermuseum today - and visiting their website I found out that they have a pink tank now...

  23. The XE Game System is somewhat rare in Europe (the most common machines are the 800XL and the 800XE), but not quite as rare as the 400/800 (these pop up on eBay UK from time to time, but in mainland Europe they seem to be exceptionally rare and usually sell in the range of 70 Euros (400) and 120 Euros (800) at least- or higher). That PSU ist the usual one I've purchased with any XL or XE machine from the UK (the wall plugs were added by the customer there IIRC, and they contain the fuse). It's heavy as a brick, and glued together - I usually just keep the DIN 7-pin plug and cord and discard the rest iof these, as any modern stabilized 5V wall wart is better and much lighter. Thorsten
  24. /me is tired out since I travelled by night train from Hamburg vie the postcard part of Germany to the Nürburgring Dorint.

Yes, but you wouldn't believe the landscape along the Rhine and Ahr. Castles, ruins and vineyards all over, plus half-timber houses and churches built of rocks.
