Can't get to Atari 400/800 Basic using an Emulator :(
Bill Lange replied to Sharky's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
The "Boot Error" is happening because of the simulated disk drive. Turn off all the disk drives and then do a cold boot of the emulator. If you want to use the emulated disk drives, you will need a disk image attached. WRL -
Has anyone written a world or terrain building algorithm like the ones used in Seven Cities Of Gold or SimCity? Chris Crawford, the designer of Eastern Front, has some nice documents on it on his website, but in his words, it is alot of "hand waving". Here is the link to the World Building info on his site - http://www.erasmatazz.com/library/JCGD_Vol...ld_a_World.html He has a lot of good game design info on his site. WRL

I still can't get the music for this game out of my head ... This is a really simple but fun game. It is really frustrating when your trying to get your crystals to multiply and some of the people come into the run and start picking them up. WRL

Anyone with Music Composer II?
Bill Lange replied to Clint Thompson's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
You may be talking about the Advanced Music System which is available here - http://www.atariarchives.org/APX/showinfo....o.php?cat=20100 WRL -

I remember that I was in either 7th or 8th grade. I spent every single penny that I had made up to that point in my life to buy the Atari 400. We went down to Consumers, picked up the shiney silver box and went home. Once we hooked it up to the TV, I realized that I just bought a $600 Memo Pad .... then it was back to Consumers for the Entertainer kit ... WRL

When I purchased my Atari 400 way back in 81, it did not come with an Atari BASIC cartridge. You had to either purchase the Atari "The Programmer" kit or just the Atari BASIC cartridge. Star Raiders was the first cartridge we got and I believe the BASIC was the second. WRL

The MS PACMAN sticks are 4-way sticks aren't they? Don't you need a 8-way stick for the Ataris? WRL

Nice Apple sticker. I ordered a red joystick and four red buttons. A blue joystick with four blue buttons. Two white buttons with one and two player overlays. And two black buttons to use for credits. I built a six inch cardboard cabinet model over the weekend. This coming weekend I will build on six foot cabinet out of press board since it is cheap, about $6 per 4x8 slice. If it comes out ok, I plan to build a final mame cabinet out of sanded plywood which is more like $25 for a 4x8 slice. I have to get one of those keyboard encoders and figure out how it works. Should be fun. I am also interested to see if the Happ joysticks can be wired to an 2600 and/or 8-bit Atari. WRL

I just order some ULTIMATE J/S,8WAY,MS,RED joysticks as well as buttons yesterday. Did you create your own mame plans or use one of the ones that are on the net? Bill

Has anyone used a real arcade joystick from a maker such as Happ Controls with the Atari? The 2600 and 8-bit machines used digital joysticks so it seems this solid joystick should work. http://www.happcontrols.com/index.html?htt...s_amusement.htm WRL

Which game genre do you feel is the most fun on the 8-bit machines? Which game genre are the Atari computers best at handling? And which game genre has been mostly ignored on the 8-bit machines? WRL

AA urges workers not to abuse sick days
Bill Lange replied to Bill Lange's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
We have not been allowed to water anything outside since Oct 1st. With the way the weather is going, they ( the metro area authorities ) have already said there will probably be no outside water this summer. Hopefully we will not have another rouge forest ranger start a gazillion acre fire again this summer. I would not mind a few muddy foot prints right about now, though a blizzard would be much better. It is 70 degrees in Denver today! We haven't had snow or rain in a long long time. WRL -
I read this on CNN today "AA urges workers not to abuse sick days". My first thought was "I didn't think AA had that many workers!" Doh! http://www.cnn.com/2003/TRAVEL/01/08/american.sick.time/index.html ://http://www.cnn.com/2003/TRAVEL/01/0...me/index.html WRL

I can't believe that the Alien Group sanded the numbers off the ICs that they used in there products. Good info on that page though. The Atari800WinPlus 3.0 and higher has cassette support. I don't know if it is just the software tract or if it also supports the voice track. Some Atari cassette games had voiced instructions as you loaded the game. Of course programs like Spanish, German ... also used voice from cassette. I've only been able to find cassette images of games w/o voice. WRL
