  1. I still can't get the music for this game out of my head ...

This is a really simple but fun game. It is really frustrating when your trying to get your crystals to multiply and some of the people come into the run and start picking them up.

  2. All this talk about modems (thats a MOdulater DEModulator for you non-hacker types  :P) has gotten me thinking.  Does anyone still run a BBS on their Atari?  I'm not talking about emulating it on their computer, I mean a running a real Atari BBS on a flesh and blood Atari (well actually that would be a little creepy, how about a silcon and metal Atari).

How hard would this be to do?  I've got a spare 130XE I'm not using for anything.  I've always wanted to do someting like this, but would it be feasible in this day and age?  I mean no-one is going to call long distance to stare at an old BBS (or would they?).

  3. Out of the games I own, Missle command.  Out of the ones I've played on EMU thus far, tie between Caverns of MArs and Canyon Climber.

Anyone have a Caverns of MArs cart for sale?

Inky - I think BEST still has this title new in the box. Send them an email.

  4. Yeah...I think that the 400's at the time was retailing for $595 by itself. Basic was considered a luxury.

I remember that I was in either 7th or 8th grade. I spent every single penny that I had made up to that point in my life to buy the Atari 400. We went down to Consumers, picked up the shiney silver box and went home. Once we hooked it up to the TV, I realized that I just bought a $600 Memo Pad .... then it was back to Consumers for the Entertainer kit ...

  5. IIRC, the Basic cart was included with every 800 or 400 because it wasn't built in like the XL or XE. It is the most common by far. I would pick Star Raiders as the next most common.

When I purchased my Atari 400 way back in 81, it did not come with an Atari BASIC cartridge. You had to either purchase the Atari "The Programmer" kit or just the Atari BASIC cartridge.

Star Raiders was the first cartridge we got and I believe the BASIC was the second.

  6. Nice Apple sticker.

I ordered a red joystick and four red buttons. A blue joystick with four blue buttons. Two white buttons with one and two player overlays. And two black buttons to use for credits.

I built a six inch cardboard cabinet model over the weekend. This coming weekend I will build on six foot cabinet out of press board since it is cheap, about $6 per 4x8 slice.

If it comes out ok, I plan to build a final mame cabinet out of sanded plywood which is more like $25 for a 4x8 slice.

I have to get one of those keyboard encoders and figure out how it works.

Should be fun. I am also interested to see if the Happ joysticks can be wired to an 2600 and/or 8-bit Atari.

  7. We have not been allowed to water anything outside since Oct 1st. With the way the weather is going, they ( the metro area authorities ) have already said there will probably be no outside water this summer.

Hopefully we will not have another rouge forest ranger start a gazillion acre fire again this summer.

I would not mind a few muddy foot prints right about now, though a blizzard would be much better.

  8. I gont get this Hexadecimal crap...why does FF equal 255...i thought it would equal 225...

    FF hex = 1111 1111 binary

    1

    2 6 3 1

    8 4 2 6 8 4 2 1 <--- This is the decimal for each bit

    1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1

    128+64+32+16+8+4+2+1= 255 <--- Just add it up

  10. I can't believe that the Alien Group sanded the numbers off the ICs that they used in there products. Good info on that page though.

The Atari800WinPlus 3.0 and higher has cassette support. I don't know if it is just the software tract or if it also supports the voice track. Some Atari cassette games had voiced instructions as you loaded the game. Of course programs like Spanish, German ... also used voice from cassette. I've only been able to find cassette images of games w/o voice.
