I like the Best board, but IMHO, it needs to be 5mm or so wider so you don't need to break the fins off the SIO receptacles to mount them.

If the socket on the Apelink board is the standard socket, then I can try to match that exactly. I'll just de-solder one of the receptacles off the board and then have my 3D printed tweaked to line up with the holes.

 

I have a few 1088XEL around here somewhere as well, so I can check that too.

 

I do need to figure out how to screw the two parts together while still staying close to the standard socket.

I'm working on a 3D printed SIO receptacle.

 

I'm using the Best Electronics' SIO Apelink board as a model.

 

 

I'm working on two pieces [receptacle/base] that will snap and/or screw together.

 

 

Here are some draft photos:

 

 

 

 

The pieces need some adjusting:

• On the receptacle (top) part, I'm going to move the screw wings flush with the back so that it can 3D print without supports
• Recessed screw/nut holes
• Add some supports/braces to hold the pins in place as well

 

I'm going to try some pins something like these:

 

 

 

The pins will all likely be one length, so they will stick out of the bottom of the base at two heights/lengths. The pins will need to be clipped off once soldered to a board.

 

 

Any comments or suggestions before I get to far down this rabbit hole?

Yes, the map is turned left. One of the most interesting archaeological areas in the world.

 

My wife is from Peru (born in Lima / raised in Piura). I've been fortunate enough to have traveled to Peru about a dozen times, including Cuzco and Machu Picchu three or four times. I've even met up with Peruvian AtariAgers while there!

Reset - Resets the game

Select - Changes the active "Commander"/City

Joystick - Moves the active "Commander" icon

 

I suspect that if it worked, it would work similar to Eastern Front 1941. Unfortunately, I can't get it to do much more than change active commanders and move the icon to neighboring cities.

 

The code as some interesting "messenger" stuff. Messages can travel twice as fast as armies. (Again, if it worked)

 

Other than that, it seems to be a pretty, colorful map of Peru twisted toward the left.

I have my SDrive-MAX up to version .9b. I've tested Ultima II and the Atari Pascal Language System. I like it. This is going to be great for displaying exhibits at the Vintage Computer Festival VCF events. No more SIO2PC bundles to carry around.

I built my first SDrive-MAX including 3D printing the SIO connector and the SDrive-MAX case. I need to update the software to the latest version. Learned a few things and want to try a few tweaks.

 

I tried printing the XL style case on my FlashForge Finder 3D printer and had some issue. I'm going to try to reprint it with the parts flipped over.

 

I used 15 conductor cable ... way over kill for this project. I'll try again with a CAT5 cable.
