  1. It depends... Gamestop is notorious for overcharging on their pre-owned titles and their buy back program is an insult to gamers everywhere. Gamestop charges almost full retail for their pre-owned games (we're talking a $5 difference between pre-owned and brand-new in most cases), which is ridiculous. Their buy back program on new releases is chump change ($15-$20 on a new release if you’re lucky!) and reselling it for ten times the amount. If Blockbuster doesn't adhere to these shady tactics then they may very well get my money.
  2. Wrong game! The main character is a Russian bad ass with a thick accent. I went to the midnight release at my local Wal-Mart and purchased a copy for Xbox 360. This game has evolved in the right direction if you ask me. Rockstar revamped the controls and they feel much tighter than they did in San Andreas. The physics are more realistic; people no longer look like rag dolls when they get hit by a speeding car (wink) and the missions alone give over 30 hours of game play. According to a review I read, the game will last longer than 30hrs if you do all the special missions. The game is more cinematic, character development far exceeds previous versions, and the voice acting is top-notch. Nothing beats taking a woman on a date, hitting a pole, and ejecting her through a windshield. Edit: I’m only a few hours into the game so I can’t comment any further, but I strongly suggest giving it a chance before passing judgment.
  3. This is good to hear! It sounds like you picked the right seller to deal with. I know by personal experience that some sellers are not as easily persuaded into giving a refund.
  4. Please keep us updated on this issue, Albert. I'm really sorry to hear about your woes and I hope all goes well.
  5. First of all, the seller violated Media Mail terms by shipping items that do not fall under the Media Mail guidelines. The grey line that existed no longer does; any item shipped via Media must be a book or music CD, plain and simple. Bringing this to EBay's attention would be in your best interest. This would also be helpful when filing a claim in Paypal. I never purchase anything off EBay if the seller doesn’t mention the shipping method being used. There’s a lot of dishonest sellers on EBay and they will nickel and dime you to death with stupid services like ‘the time it takes them to drive to the post office” and my favorite “It takes time to package your item”. I sell on EBay and my prices are reasonable. I don’t shove all that BS down buyers’ throats because its shady and dishonest.
  6. Hey guys, I don't want you to think that I am ignoring this thread (I was thinking that everyone has seen the same thread in 8-bit and knew what was going on). To make a long story short, I have decided not to deal with the thrift store in Lee, NH. I haven't purchased anything from him either. The owner really needs a lesson in customer service and his attitude is a big turn off. In my opinion he doesn't deserve my money or anyone else's. I waited weeks for him to send me an updated list of product and he never came through. Every time I called to find out where the list was he would be rude for no apparent reason. Apparently the stubborn, old fool doesn’t like to make money... It's a shame; he has all those goodies in his store collecting dust because he refuses to be reasonable. Edit: His reason for having high prices was laughable at best. According to him, these items are rare and can't be found anywhere. Right... Atari ST computers may not be common these days but you can find one if you look hard enough; I can guarantee the price will be far cheaper than what he charges.
  7. I don't get it. Please explain how it's an insult to anyone? I don't consider Wii Fitness an insult, but some people feel that Nintendo is branding gamers as overweight couch potatoes that never get any exercise.
  8. How soon does something have to die before it's officially a fad? Here's a list of fads from the 1980s: http://people.howstuffworks.com/8-awesome-...f-the-1980s.htm After looking at that list, I'm still not clear about how long a fad can last. What is considered a short time? A month, a year, 10 years? When 50,000 years pass by, will something that was popular for 100 years be considered a fad? You raise a really good point... I suppose there is no true way to measure the longevity of a fad. If you want to be analytical about things you could say that anything -- whether it is the Wii or the Iphone -- can be measured by its availability. When the iPhones first launched you couldn't find them anywhere. Once the buzz surrounding its technology died down -- and when everyone finally understood what the IPhone really was -- people lost interest quickly and the phones became readily available everywhere (in my area anyway). Would this scenario be considered a fad? Yes, it most certainly would! This is just my take on things, of course, but what I get from this thread is that interest in the WII still continues despite being over a year old. Is it a fad? Possibly, but interest in the system continues to grow even today. A lot of fads seem to die out quickly, but again you can't give it a projected date. Plus, if you want to get technical, just about everything in the video game industry can be considered a fad to some extent
  9. Naysayer’s have been ridiculing the Nintendo WII since Nintendo announced it to the public. The Nintendo WII is far from being a fad; you still can’t find them in retail stores today. The Nintendo WII may not produce the best-looking games but what it does offer is revolutionary. The wireless remote technology has placed gaming in the hands of average people who otherwise wouldn't touch a video game system. How can you turn a blind eye to the facts? Fads usually don’t last this long.
  10. The seller is trying to convince me otherwise; here is what he wrote: At least he offered a refund. Edit: I appreciate the info guys!
  11. thats true, c64 can do 160 pixels with many colors, while NES does 256 in a similar mode. however there are exception check this screenshot for example of an unfinished game: c64 320x200 kicking the NES resolution. Do you have any further information on this game? The graphics are incredible! I'm really enjoying this thread! What I'd like to see is people commenting more on which machine they feel is better from a consumer standpoint. I owned a C64 back in the day and really enjoyed the games. It was almost impossible to find A8 comps in my area so the family stuck with Commodore computers. We did have a few Apple computers but the C64 was used more often. Great debate so far!
  12. This is the first time I have ever seen the internals of old faithful and I am surprised by how small the motherboard is. Looks can be deceiving! Damn, the system is more case than anything!
  13. I was just wondering what software people use to develop games & utilities for the Atari 800 and where the files can be found. Thank you in advance!
  14. I agree that $2,500 is a bit pricey but imagine the fun you'd have with it! If it's not a MAME cabinet then it may be worth looking into.
  15. Thank you! The Prosystem Emulator solved the problem!
  16. Were those full arcade versions? If not, they don't really count if you're trying to get as close as you can to the arcade version. The Amiga and ST versions were incomplete with only a handful of scenes from the coin-op. I own the GB version of the game and it’s quite good but not complete like the other versions mentioned.
  17. I don't remember the name of thread but someone released a bunch of protos with the help of Albert from Atariage. The list consisted of Plutos and a few others. I tried to load these games with EMU7800 v0.81 but I get a black screen. I'm assuming there must be something I need to download to get these to work; any suggestions?
  18. I could be wrong but it sounds like you may be confused about the way a Dragon's Lair cabinet works. Dragon's Lair used a laserdisc player, and the animations in the game were stored on a laserdisc. The ROMs you downloaded control the laserdisc player and they don't house the actual game. So, for example, if you hit left on the joystick, the ROMS would tell the laserdisc player what animation to play off the laserdisc. So... if you don't have the laserdiscs containing the game animations the ROMs you downloaded are worthless.
  19. The VCS version is very playable so no argument there. Edit: I guess I was just picky as a kid.
  20. DK on 2600 rocked. I played it way more than Pac-Man, went through either 2 or 3 carts at the time. I love Donkey Kong! The thing that used to drive me nuts as a kid was the way Donkey Kong looked in the VCS version. Great game overall (it was very playable on the VCS) but for some reason I couldn't find it in myself to love it. Edit: My father would beg me to turn down the sound because it drove him crazy.
  21. Even as a kid I didn't like the VCS version of Pac-Man. Since I loved the coin-op I could immediately tell the VCS version was inferior; heck, even Donkey Kong (another of my favs) was unbearable on the VCS.
  22. Hello Rob, I was 9 years old in 1984 and I was a very big fan of your games back in the day (they were some of my favorites). Money is no object to me; you're talking to someone who spends $300+ on Neo-Geo AES games. I was more offended by the way you treated some of your fan base than I was with your term of lowballer. Even though you disagreed with their offers you didn't have to act like they were below you. You mentioned that you made a living from developing software and I was just pointing out that the Atari 2600 may not be the best venue to achieve this on (especially if you were deciding to continue with 2600 development after Actionauts). I hope you made your quota during the pre-order process and hopefully the people who ordered enjoy the game / reap its value in the collector's market. Please excuse the brash nature of my recent post in the Actionauts thread; that was a trying week for me and it obviously poured into some of my posts.
  23. I'm giving up on the thrift store in Lee, NH. The owner is a real asshole and he is no longer deserving of our time. He never got back to me with the list and when I called him back he acted like I was putting him out. It really irritates me to no end! Here's this store filled with all these Atari goodies and he isn't willing to sell them at 1.) Reasonable prices and 2.) He is hardly accommodating. I'm sorry for even mentioning this place. -Michael
