I'm still down, I've just been away for the last month, out in the Mojave Desert with the Army for yearly training, and there was no internet, but I am still interested!
-
I remember enjoying Sonic CD, Vay (a nice RPG), and Rise Of The Dragon (a point-and-click game with some side-scroller levels as well).
-
I had (not sure where it is now) a book/cassette combo from when I was a kid. It was a little story based on Yars' Revenge, made for some kid's "Learn to Read" learning aid I had when I was pre-Kindergarten. I remember seeing it somewhere in my house a couple years ago.

Oh, don't worry, my interest is still peaked!
-
For you Detroit-area AtariAgers, I would not recommend searching the Taylor Town Trade Center for a little while, as I visited the few vendors inside that carry 2600 games and picked them clean, save a Space Invaders here and a Combat there.

Well, with my stimulus check coming soon, and my collection beginning to take shape, I believe it's nigh time I expanded into new territory. I'm looking for a 5200 to add to the trophy room that is my den. It won't be an immediate buy, as I need to wait for that stimulus money, but if you're looking to sell, give me a price and we'll chat. Also, I'm not looking for a ginormous lot, as I just can't spend a ton.

I might be newer to the forums, but I know enough to say I'm not touching that debauchle with a 10-foot pole.
-
I see these in my area all the time, they've been around for a few years. I even owned them all, at one point!

Looks to me like a Famiclone cartridge

3) Sell it, get yourself a 2600, a nice bundle of commons, and a repro of PI. Buy liquor, some old records and a good cigar. Get drunk while spinning said classic vinyl.that's what I would do

Sir, that is the BEST plan yet! Anyone here from the northern burbs of Detroit?
On a sad note, mom and pop didn't find the boxed one

So, I have 1 loose PI cartridge. Anyone interested in making #3 come true for me? How much $$ is it worth??
I'm from the southern burbs of Detroit, and if you buy liquor, cigars, and vinyl and spin it up, I'll bring my UK Hardcore vinyl and spin a tag set with ya! Lol

I particularly like my Flashbacks, C64 DTV, and Arcade Gold units. I'd LOVE to get ahold of a Coleco 20-in-1 SMS unit, can't find them anywhere for a decent price though.

If that's the case, I'd be down, sounds like a great time, just hang out, meet some other retrogamers, play some classic games, eat some pizza, and all kinds of groovy things.
Datewise, I know that June 1st and 8th are both a no-go for me, as I'll be in the Mojave Desert with the Army, and won't return until the 10th. I'll see if my fiance wants to come too, she's a big retrogamer too, she just doesn't collect (she just plays all of mine!).
P.S. Also, Saturdays are grey-area, as I have a weekly Airsoft event that my team hosts in the evening, and being the team Commanding Officer, I cannot miss those unless absolutely necessary.

I heard Pinball Pete's is a blast for us retrogamers, is that true? I'm in Dearborn Heights, so it appears we're all somewhat local here.

That is his full list of consoles that he physically owns, and he's still looking for those not on the list!

As long as I'm not working or on military duty the day of, I'd be down, depending on where it is, though I'm assuming we're all Detroit Metro area

Go to the Atariage.com Store and they sell an adapter, which will fit right on the end of the RF cable of your 2600. The other end is a coaxial output, which screws directly into your cable/antenna input on your TV. If you do not wish to pay for shipping and wait for it to arrive, and you have a Radio Shack nearby, they also sell these adapters. You're looking for a Gold-Plated "F" Jack Connector to Phono Plug, foind in the Cables, Parts, and Connectors section. I use one of the gold-plated Radio Shack connectors, and I've never seen a 2600 game with such a great picture outside of emulation.

Yes it is, the Atari 2600 Spy Hunter box was white

Well, I was actually speaking more along the lines of a system, I've exausted every other source in my arsenal and cannot seem to find one. Those sites are actually part of my list of dealers.
-
You mean XLR8 Game Shop, right? I've been in there, actually went to school with the girl that works there. I actually wouldn't mind a 5200, but I don't have the cash, otherwise I'd be scooting down there right now to grip it up!
-
Well, I've been a collector for some time now, and I am finally looking to venture beyond the 2600 again. The problem is, when I bought a 5200 some 7 years ago, they were easier to find online. Now, I can only find high-priced eBay items. Any ideas on other places to check? Price is an issue to an extent (I'm not exactly in the Fortune 500).

The PS3 hasn't ruined the Playstation brand, in fact the PS2 has been doing pretty well in the last 2 years and was even the best selling console of 2006 and will continue to go strong for awhile as long as the next cheapest console is $120 more. The 360 pretty much shot its load last year and I don't see too many more exclusive killer aps coming out for it now that Bungie has left.
I was actually referring to the future of the Playstation brand. I am still a rather devoted PS2 user, and do see the console lasting for awhile longer.

It IS true that a company's first console usually is not profitable, but it usually paves the way for the next one to bring in the money. The only exceptions I can really think of are Atari's 2600 (which dominated the market quickly, being the first mainstream console to enjoy widespread success) and the NES (which, aside from skyrocketing the already-successful Nintendo's revenue, also is considered the savior of the console market, bringing an end to the Great Crash). When you look at the Sega Master System, Playstation, XboX, and any other first console from any company, they almost always lost at least a tiny bit of money. Now, although I am a devoted retrogamer, I also enjoy the modern consoles, and aside from my current favorite, the Wii, the 360 is also one of my most-played consoles. Plus, I'm pretty sure that the PS3 has probably ruined Sony's Playstation brand. I would say it's a safe bet that Microsoft will be in the mix for awhile.

I normally go right for the used games (I'm an all-around gamer, though I prefer retro). I'm not the richest man on the block, so if it'll save some money and get the same result (i.e. allow me to play the games I want), I'm all for it. Don't forget, you can always ask to see the condition of the discs before you actually pay. Though I will admit, all of my Guitar Hero/Rock Band gear was bought brand new!

Which major console has the best downloadable content for classic gamers?

That would be the Wii, in my opinion. It has a nice selection of SNES, Genesis, TG-16, and now Sega Master System!
