It IS true that a company's first console usually is not profitable, but it usually paves the way for the next one to bring in the money. The only exceptions I can really think of are Atari's 2600 (which dominated the market quickly, being the first mainstream console to enjoy widespread success) and the NES (which, aside from skyrocketing the already-successful Nintendo's revenue, also is considered the savior of the console market, bringing an end to the Great Crash). When you look at the Sega Master System, Playstation, XboX, and any other first console from any company, they almost always lost at least a tiny bit of money. Now, although I am a devoted retrogamer, I also enjoy the modern consoles, and aside from my current favorite, the Wii, the 360 is also one of my most-played consoles. Plus, I'm pretty sure that the PS3 has probably ruined Sony's Playstation brand. I would say it's a safe bet that Microsoft will be in the mix for awhile.

Do you primarily buy your "modern" games new or used?
DJTekid replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Poll Forum
I normally go right for the used games (I'm an all-around gamer, though I prefer retro). I'm not the richest man on the block, so if it'll save some money and get the same result (i.e. allow me to play the games I want), I'm all for it. Don't forget, you can always ask to see the condition of the discs before you actually pay. Though I will admit, all of my Guitar Hero/Rock Band gear was bought brand new! -
Damn, looks like the secret's out! I just recently started purchasing from Mike too, and was gonna keep my trap shut about it for awhile! I just bought a Master System and about 10 games from him, decently priced and in great condition, also got my order pretty quick!

NWCGE presents Jet city Retro April 26-27

Grr...this kind of thing never takes place near Detroit! -
Yeah, I've been out of the loop for a few years, and forgot how easy it is to snag what you're looking for on this system, plus, unlike then, I actually have decent money coming in that can support the hobby!

Wow, that was speedy! Pending finalizations, I should be covered on all of these already! Thanks for those who responded!

Looking to buy: Alex Kidd in Miracle World Gangster Town Space Harrier Shooting Gallery Rocky Boxes are nice, but I'll take loose carts too, it's more for playing than show!

Well, I just closed some deals on a couple of large boxes of 2600 cartridges right by my house, so for now, I'm all set, I'm gonna work on another system for a bit.

No, it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Also, I DID find another place. The problem is their prices. They sounded a bit high, seemed like they wanted $4 for a Combat, judging by the way the guy was talking. The place is called Game Time and is on Inkster Rd. just south of Cherry Hill Rd.

I actually hit up the Taylor Town Trade Center just the other day, and picked up a couple commons that I didn't have from the guy selling all the DVDs and CDs at the end of the building. I WANT to grab some of the nifty stuff from the booth on the back wall, but it seems like they're never there when I am. It's a shame, because they have some of the other systems I want to start collecting again too. Gibralter's drying up nowadays too, I snagged a few games there, but nothing major, most of what they had was extremely common.

I just recently restarted my collection (my ex-fiance sold off the whole thing before I could reclaim it), and am looking for basic cartridges to start with. I have a system, controllers, and probably 30 cartridges so far. I'm mainly looking for the "meat and potatoes" games that most collectors have, due to them being common. I'd prefer to buy some in lots (10-15 games) than buy one by one. If you can help me out, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks, I've been trying to get back into collecting (my ex-fiance sold off my whole collection before I could reclaim it a few years ago). I do know two that are hit-or-miss in the area (now that there's someone local that knows what I'm talking about). There's Taylor Town Trade Center, on Ecorse Rd., they have one retailer that buys and sells, but his stock is sporadic. There's also Wonderland Comics, also in Taylor on Ecorse Rd. Problem with them is, they'll only work with you if you know exactly what you want (which entails knowing what they have, and they don't keep any of it out on display).

Does anybody here know of any stores in the Detroit area that carry classic video games? I've been racking my brains for almost 10 years trying to find any, and the few I did know about have closed down. Any info would be much appreciated. 2600 is my main concern at the moment, but I'm always looking for Coleco, Intellivision, etc.
