I have come to the conlusion that there are many embittered members of this forum for whom the world of home computers will always be a case of one upmanship. Why can't people see that this is an argument that will run and run. I mean there are still people at it, just that its moved onto higher ground. I have the opinion that no machine is stricly "better" than another, for they all hold thier unique charms. I have owned so many, and each has a special place in my heart. But the other day i thought of an analogy.... If computers were fruit, what would they be? If you bear with me a bit here, it has been an awful long nite with very little sleep lol I'd say, the A8 is an ORANGE, fairly plain to look at, but sweet and full of complicated textures The C64 is an APPLE, crisper and smoother to look at, but a little samey on the inside The Spectrum is an UGLI, ok the rind is wrinked and pitted, but oh that sweet juice inside! The Cpc from Amstrad is a TOMATO, gorgeous to look at, though not sweet, still satisfying. Now what i'm really saying is this, some ppl dont like oranges, some dont like apples, why can't ppl accept that? Ones not better than the other, they are just different. For me, the case is i love them all, just sometimes i don't want an apple. Don't force it on me! Ooh i'm hungry now, gonna eats some sweet carrots. Now what if computers were vegetables lol

Its is sort of a forerunner to prince of persia, but the fighting elements in POP aren't nearly so well developed. Even tho Bruce only has a standing punch and a flying kick!

You're putting this silly argument everywhere you can. Is this so hard to understand that if something was supposed to sell in Poland so the language it uses is also Polish? Btw. Is the ABBUC mag still in German? I still have a plan to translate some of Polish games to more universal language but maybe i'll (better) change my mind... Sorry for the offtopic. Well there are some amazing A8 programs out there that i can't understand, and it is frustrating. Maybe i should learn polish

Well it was used in a number of budget shoot-em-ups as i remember they seemed to fly along ok You could get a really coulourful version of Defender going, or something similar
-
Well i had gotten as far as writing a post saying this, but then i deleted it. Was worried about lookin stoopid

Think you're right Would be a good showcase for G2F Couldn't the lance be hard coded, is only a triangle after all
-
there are other games which have the same effects though, Warhawk has a player which has many shades of grey and blue in it just wondered if it could be used to greater effect by using two overlaid objects

Just thought that in the mid eighties, the A8 got kinda monochromatic cause a lot of games were ports from machines without the same features or difficulties the use of recolouring on the PM's has never been so well used as in Activision titles though I do agree it was where the original came from that affected the look not a bad thing though playing with a 3d piccy too not finished gonna stop using paint and get onto GF2 i think

Was playing a load of Activision titles the other day Was really impressed about the amount of colour on the screen All using DLI's, and similar for the "single" colour sprites Wondering why more exploitation of this isn't evident in A8 games Done a mock up on paint for a simple drivin game would use 2 colour PM's and only 3 colours per line are on the roadway atm

Really was what i was getting at with the toaster gag Both machines are ace Both have their strengths Both have their drawbacks

I wonder what's you intention? Why do you start a thread and than treating it like a can on the street The thread is serious, I'm not kicking it just dislike the "mines better than yours" argument from some ppl Not demeaning the great work that is being done on the A8 - i think its amazing just think that arguments that come with it are laughable. You are very correct in what you say about end users being blind to what goes on "under the hood". Ok so ppl who know what is going on will appreciate it more from a technical standpoint. But the closer the game looks to the original the better. and in a kind of toungue in cheek way i was backing you up, sorry if silly comments are unwelcome, just hoping to make someone smile, seemed like too many frowns of rivalry is funny though, when the c64 forums are talking about yoomp and getting it to work, i didn't notice any posts putting down the c64 from atari owners saying how slow the machine was, just lots of support from people who wanted the game completed.

Just like to say how cool i thought this was

I don't know, Can't any kind of post be put here without ppl arguing over whose machine is best? Do you argue over whose pizza is better - Domino's or the Hut? I started this topic cause DOTC is just a game i admired from the ST, i only mentioned the C64 cause it makes more sense to convert those images But I'm not going to get all hot under the collar about how much processor time is used, or if the colours aren't quite right Just wait till you get an amstrad user talking about how colourful his/her graphics are lol But then i've got a machine from 1982 that can do stuff the C64 can't I mean it does toast, heats bagels, warms waffles etc That's it new post "my toaster's better than the C64" or would that start an argument over whose toaster is better :s

hehe, Not exactly the world's best programmer, though i'm betting you could do the whole thing in turbo basic, if you're not too bothered about it looking perfect. For my sins, i have only been involved in design, art and music. playing around with RMT i might have a go at some choonz Fact is i'd love to collaborate on something for the A8 My games only came out for the Achie and Risc PC

Having seen a number of conversion projects being completed recently, I was wondering if anyone had thought of the C64 release of Defender of the Crown. I couldn't ever be bothered to play it cause of the slow disk access, and at the time wished it was on the XL so it would play faster. I think that G2F graphics would nicely emulate the images of the original, and the music was fairly simple. The engine for the game mechanics seemed pretty simple too. Any takers?
