  1. Deal of the Day: Gamestop has Street Fighter IV for the 360 (and PS3 too) for $19.99! I just picked up a copy on the way home from work. It's valid online until the end of the day too!
  2. Yup, that happened to mine back in the day. I just used my Super Game Boy until getting a Game Boy Advance instead of getting another original one, because I kept hearing from my friends that they all broke too.
  3. I went to a local flea market yesterday and came up with the following: -New Logitech Xbox wireless controller for $10, been looking for one of these forever! -Ikari Warriors II for the NES, in one of those old-style rental store boxes, for $5 -Berzerk and Armor Attack for the Vectrex, with the overlay for Armor Attack, for $20 And the deal of the day... Super Smash Brothers Melee for the Gamecube, for free! I guy had it on his table, and I pick it up and ask how much. He says $3! So, immediately, I bust out $3 and fork it over. Then, my girlfriend reminds me to look at the bottom of the disc for scratches. Sure enough, it was really scratched up. So, he felt bad, and gives me the $3 back! He said that if he knew it was scratched, he would've tossed it. I bet a little cleaning would make it work fine (I haven't tried it yet), and there's places around that resurfaces games for a couple bucks if there's nothing I can do.
  4. Details? Get some pics of that stuff asap!
  5. I'm also beginning to loathe shopping at Gamestop. I have a 50% success rate at finding a game on the shelf and having them actually have it in stock. They are hit or miss around here as well, and there's one in a local mall that I stopped going to altogether after a little incident I had there. I am browsing the Xbox 360 section for some cheap used stuff, because I think paying $60 for a game is ludicrous, unless I know it's gonna be something I really like. I find a copy of Marvel Ultimate alliance, and the tag says $9.99. I haven't played it, but I've heard it's something I might like, and if I don't I'm only out $10 or so, no big deal. So, I bring it to the counter with a few other games I picked out, and an employee, we'll call him #1, starts ringing the stuff up. When he gets to Marvel Ultimate Alliance, it rings up as $14.99. So, I kindly point out the error. #1 just doesn't get it. I tell him to look at the price labeled on the game. He does, and it still says $9.99. He gets flustered and calls in someone who'll I'll call Mr. Streetfighter. Mr. Streetfighter is the manager, and he is WAY too busy playing his friends on the Street Fighter IV kiosk to help initially, and since he had to pause his game, he was really unhappy. He comes over and #1 tells him what's going on, and he then tells me that the game is $14.99. WTF! I then point out to him that it's clearly marked $9.99, and he says that it doesn't matter, and it's $14.99. I then bring up the fact that it's illegal in Massachusetts (and I'm sure in many other places) to label a price to something and then overcharge for it. Retailers get into BIG trouble for doing that here, and get fined by the state. Well, Mr. Streetfighter says that they can charge whatever price they want "because the computer says so". He then tells me that I'm wasting his time and I didn't know what I was talking about! Being a manager in a retail store for 4 years wouldn't entitle me to any knowledge of things like this, would it? I then just walked out of the store without saying anything else. He was calling me all sorts of names as I left and went back to playing Street Fighter IV. He is lucky he didn't push me any farther, as I was just about ready to snap that bastard in half. I didn't call their regional office for fear that these d-bags have personal information on file because I have an Edge card, and they could easily look up where I live and retaliate when they lost their jobs. Yeah, I know that's a stretch, but having worked in retail and dealing with programs like that, they do keep more info than you would think about some stuff! Luckily, I have a good Play N Trade in my area that has a pretty decent selection of games for just about everything, and the employees are all gamers that respect people like us, because they collect and play too. I always trade "war stories" about finding games out in the wild, and old memories and stuff like that every time I go in there. Gamestop is usually a place to go and exploit for their clearance sales and such. Finding anyone with a brain that works there is another thing entirely.
  6. I went out yard sale hunting yesterday and came up with a Game Gear in a really nice large case, with the rechargeable battery pack and Sonic 2 for $10. Sadly, the Game Gear itself doesn't work right. It shuts off right after you turn it on. I already have one anyway, so the case, battery pack and game seemed worth it to me anyway. I also scored an Intellivision, in the box with instructions, for $2! The console is in really nice shape, actually nicer than the one I already have. It didn't come with any games though, but for $2, I'm not going to argue!
  7. Not much, but I picked up the following between tonight and the weekend: NES: -Spy Hunter -Tennis -Ice Hockey SNES: -Obitus (wish I didn't get it, looks really bad) Gameboy Color: Purple system in nice shape, works great Genesis: -Sonic and Knuckles Xbox: (all brand new) -Psi-Ops -Hunter: The Reckoning -Syberia -Red Dead Revolver I paid about $30 for all of that. Nothing special, but not a bad deal IMHO. And that PS1 lot above was an absolute steal! Have fun with Castlevania: SOTN!
  8. Here's a few of the ones I remember from back in the day: -There was some trick on either Altered Beast or Revenge of Shinobi on the Genesis that you had to swap the carts while the system was still on, but I never did it because I heard that it would destroy the carts and the Genesis. -On Zelda II on the NES, I got pissed at the game bashed and reset the NES a bunch of times in a fit of anger, and to my amazement, my save file had garbled letters next to it, as if the game messed up. I loaded my save, and Link was equipped with everything in the game and everything was maxed out! It was saved on there for a while, until one day when the game froze and somehow erased it. This also happened to one of my friends, but his little brother erased the file. Neither one of us could ever replicate this again. -About a year into owning my Saturn (1996-97-ish), the drive started making grinding noises and I got really angry at it. I picked it up a few feet off the ground and just let it go, and it hit the floor HARD! Ever since, it's worked fine, except a few months later, it stopped recognizing the InterAct memory cartridge that had a bunch of game saves loaded onto it. -I also had my old fat PS2 apart probably 20-30 times to clean the lens and the dust out of it so it would work, and the power ribbon ripped. I still have that thing in pieces in a box somewhere.
  9. I just got back from yard sale hunting, and I think I did pretty good! At one sale, I picked up quite the Atari haul. The guy had an entire table packed with Atari stuff. Here's what I got: -2 Sears Telegames 6-switch consoles -a really nice Atari suitcase-style case -4 joysticks -2 sets of paddles -a Star Raiders controller Loose Games: -Steeplechase x2 -Speedway II -2 different copies of Sears Telegames Warlords -Pong Sports -Target Fun x2 -Star Raiders -Pac Man -Space Invaders -Superman -Video Pinball -Defender -Instruction manuals for all the above games Boxed Games -Space Invaders -Keystone Kapers -Video Olympics -Football -Bowling -Combat -All of the above were complete with all instructions/posters/etc. And here's the kicker... NEW/SEALED Boxed Games -Casino -Air/Sea Battle -River Raid -Dodge 'Em He also tossed in a copy of Red Faction for the PS2 with the official strategy guide in on the lot. I paid $45 for the whole lot, which I though was a pretty good deal. You don't really see this stuff out in the wild anymore, especially with all the boxes, and especially not sealed games! Right around the corner from this guy's sale, there was another one. I picked up a N64 with 2 controllers, memory cards, and a bunch of games, including Goldeneye, Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire, Doom 64, and more for $15! Here's some pics of the Atari lot: I'll get pics of the N64 lot later.
  10. I've been really lucky with some great hauls over the years. Here are some of them: -Working boxed Intellivision on Ebay of all places for $9 -Atari 2600 with 103 games, all with manuals, with a ton of controllers for $30 at a flea market -Sega Nomad with a battery pack for $29 at Gamestop a few years ago, they didn't know what it was! -A huge lot that included Gamecube, SNES, PS1, PS2, original Xbox, Game Boy Advance, and Dreamcast, all boxed except for the SNES and PS1, with 86 games across all of them (and some rare ones to boot!) for $200 off of a co-worker, I essentially bought out his collection -Goldstar 3DO with about 20 games for free from a co-worker But what I consider my best haul was... -Working Vectrex, sitting in the back seat of a 1965 Rambler in a junkyard, for free! :-o It works great, and is in good shape. I have no clue what it was doing there, but they gave it to me!!!
  11. I've been on the hunt for one of these as well. All Gamestop has is their brand of controller, and it's pretty flimsy and feels like it's gonna break after 5 minutes of playing. Does Pelican make one? I have their wireless controllers for the GC and PS2, and they are really sturdy and work very well.
  12. First console game was Cosmic Avenger for the Colecovision. I was about 3. I still have the game and the system!!! The first arcade game was Moon Patrol, at a bowling alley that is long gone. I had to stand on a stool, so I must have been about 3 or 4.
  13. It's not just Best Buy, I went into Target a few weeks ago and their display 360 had the RROD too!
  14. I've been busy this past week! I picked up the following between Play N Trade and a pawn shop for a total of $50: -Sega Master System w/built-in Hang On and Safari Hunt, and the following games/controllers: -2 regular controllers -Light Phaser -Kenseiden -Zillion -Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego (cib) -Monopoly (cib) -R-Type (cib) -Ghost House (cib) -Prince of Persia for the Game Gear, complete and practically new in the box -InterAct SG Propad controller, NIB For the NES: -Wizards and Warriors -The Punisher -Metal Mech For the N64: -1080 Snowboarding I'm loving the Master System so far. I have a Power Base Converter, but playing it on the actual system just feels better. And it looks great hooked up to the tv with my Genesis a/v cable! That was an added bonus that I had no clue about! I think I'm gonna start collecting for the SMS more now. It's a great little system.
  15. I had some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket back in late 1987, and my dad took me to Service Merchandise to get a game for my new NES that I got for Christmas. I got Tiger Heli with that money, I think it was $39.99. Still have it!
  16. I picked this one up a few years back, and I gave it about 1 hour of my time. It's ok, but it's definitely quirky. It's got a VERY slow pace, and it didn't really hold my attention. Maybe someday when I'm bored, I'll try and get back into it. If you could score it in the bargain bin for $15 or under, I'd snag it, just due to it's rarity.
  17. I was always a big fan of the Baseball Simulator 1000 games for the NES and SNES. My favorites for the newer consoles are MLB Power Pros for the PS2 and The Bigs for the X360. Even though it's technically not baseball, Dusty Diamond's All Star Softball for the NES is awesome too. That game gets really fun if you play it on NesterDC on the Dreamcast at double speed!
  18. I've got Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra, and they are both very good. I actually had more fun with Neo Contra. It's insane! There's nothing like running on spinning helicopter blades in mid-air while killing hordes of enemies!
  19. Went out hunting at the local flea market yesterday and made came home with the following: For the NES: -Puss N Boots -Joe and Mac -Stinger -The Immortal -Rolling Thunder -Fantasy Zone For the SNES: -Super Metroid -Pilotwings For the Xbox 360: -Gears of War I paid about $40 for everything, split up at two booths. Both booths I went to had a ton more stuff, and their prices were reasonable.
  20. Not much, but I picked up Warcraft II The Dark Saga for the PSX, Legacy of the Wizard for the NES, and a Quick Shot controller, also for the NES, all for about $10 at Play N Trade yesterday.
  21. Contra for the NES. I think it's much more playable on the NES than the arcade. The 30 lives code helps too! I also like the original Double Dragon for the NES. The arcade one is good, but I really like the NES version too, weirdo glitches and all. The SMS version isn't too shabby either.
  22. I picked up one of these the other day too! I paid like $5-6 for it. I never had a C64 when I was a kid, nor knew anybody that actually had one, so I figured I'd take the chance with this thing. I had trouble getting some of the games to work on it though. Some load up and then just freeze.
  23. I've been on here for about a year now, but have been collecting games for a long time. I consider my collection pretty large and varied, and all my friends think I'm nuts for having so many games and systems! I love this thread because I'm a bargain hunter. I have had some pretty good luck in finding stuff over the years in all sorts of random places, and from now on, I have an audience to brag to about it!
  24. I got to finally mess around with my $8.99 Ebay Intellivision yesterday. It showed up last Tuesday, and it's really in nice shape. The auction said it didn't come with anything to hook it up to the tv, but to my surprise, it did. It didn't come with any games, but I remembered that a Play N Trade store I go to about once a month had a bunch of them, many in the original boxes. I went after work on Thursday and picked up Auto Race (boxed), Astro Smash (loose), Space Hawk (boxed with instructions and overlays), and Star Strike (also boxed with instructions and overlays). While I was there, I picked up a spare Colecovision controller in great shape and Little Nemo the Dream Master for the NES. I got all of that for $15, which I don't think is that bad. So far, I'm liking the Intellivision, except for the wired controllers. But, hey, it works great, and was dirt cheap!
  25. Oh man, this brings back memories! I used to have an Apple IIe when I was little, and we had a few games. We had Sneakers, Orbitron, Gorgon (Defender clone), Kung Fu, and a few others. I also remember playing The Oregon Trail all the time in school, as well as Arkanoid II and Spy Hunter during indoor recess.
