Atari Flashback 2+ Now For Sale On Atari.com
InfoMan replied to Guitarman's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
I just got an e-mail from Atari saying shipping is only $5 "for a limited time." The $40 price tag is still a bit hard to swallow, though. If it's selling for $30 in Canada, I'd think that's about what it should be selling for in the US - if Costco or someone else would actually get it in. -
I have never been very interested in any game system but Atari. I do have a Game Gear, but never really got into collecting for it. I've never owned anything made by Nintendo or Sony. I grew up with Atari and quit playing with it for a time when I was a teenager and switched to a PC, but then began collecting Atari stuff about 15 years ago and will probably never stop. Up until about 2000, I made a little bit of money by buying Atari stuff at thrift stores and then selling it on Ebay. I think it was mostly to people who had a lot of disposable income during the dotcom boom. Then the dotcom bust hit, and at about the same time the thrift stores dried up. I found it was no longer worth my time selling stuff, and there wasn't anything new to buy anyway. I haven't paid much attention to the market for about the last decade, but am now finding that the market might be a little better than I left it, and I still have a basement full of stuff. I'm going through it now, and it's kind of like Christmas. I forgot about a lot of the stuff I have. My kids are loving it. I think at the moment I'm going through it more to see what I have in my collection - and what actually works - than to see what I can sell, but eventually I'll get back to that with the extras. I at least need to sell some stuff to raise the money to buy some new Atari stuff. The funny thing is that Chase the Chuckwagon was kind of the holy grail for me at one time. My wife used to joke that she would always look for one when she visits a thrift store and surprise me with it. I finally got one on Ebay for what I thought was a good price at the time. Now that I have it, I'm not as interested in owning it as I thought I would be. I'd actually sell it if I could get at least as much as what I paid for it, but it seems I got it at as the price was still declining, and last I checked it hasn't been trending back up.

The rarest game I currently own is probably Chase the Chuckwagon. (Although I would have sold it by now if the going price hadn't already been on its way down when I bought it.) But if you're counting carts in general, and not just games, I also have a Cuttlecart.

I just played Millipede for 30 min. with my sons using Atari800Win Plus. We got a high score of 108500. (And I now have a sore hand from holding down the fire button.) -

I love playing Atari with my kids. How long did you play? We probably played for an hour altogether, but I didn't keep track on individual games. -

Legacy Engineering USB joystick unpacking
InfoMan replied to orpheuswaking's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I'm using version 4.0. It came packaged with some network software for playing MULE online (which I have yet to do). I've gotten the same error a couple of times with Windows XP. The first time, I clicked OK and it continued on. The second time, we were playing MULE, and my son pushed up on the joystick at a time when the game didn't expect it (I'm not sure whether that has anything to do with it though). The error message came up repeatedly and crashed the emulator. -

I don't mean to be rude, but what's video-worthy about opening up a padded envelope? Where's your channel? (YouTube?)

It has now happened to a 2nd joystick. The stick came out while my son was using it tonight, and when I put it back in, being extra careful, it turned farther than it should have, and the bumps are now gone on it as well. I took the first one that had this problem apart last night to look inside, and there didn't seem to be any internal damage. It looks like the bumps break off the stick rather than tearing the plastic inside the base.
-
Be careful when assembling the joystick. The little bumps on the bottom of the stick apparently break off fairly easy if you try to screw it in too far. (Or at least that seems to be the experience I had with one of the four I received today, unless somehow that particular stick didn't have them to begin with.)

I finally got my order of 4 joysticks from December. I'm pretty happy with them, although they're not quite as responsive as the real thing. Still beats using the keyboard or any PC joystick I've ever tried!
-
My December order finally came today. They aren't perfect, but I was able to get to level 3 of Pac Man during a quick 5 minute test. Definitely better than using a keyboard or any other controller I've tried!
-
So, before this gets lost in more complaints, does anyone that's received theirs have any comments on its performance?
-
So what's the response time on it? I've seen reports here about people using various joysticks/adapters and having problems with things like Pac Man not turning corners fast enough. Does this one work as expected?

Anybody completely switch to emulation and not look back?
InfoMan replied to Recycled's topic in Atari 2600
Huh. I bought a Cuttle Cart years ago and forgot all about it. I guess I ought to go see if I can find it and give it a try. I ordered an SIO2SD from someone in England a week or so ago, and am looking forward to using it on the original hardware. I also ordered some of the USB joysticks and am looking forward to finally playing 2600 and 8-bit games on my PC without having to use the keyboard when they arrive. -
The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
InfoMan replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I used to go to local thrift stores at least weekly and buy all their Atari stuff. Unfortunately, that was 10 years ago and apparently everyone in the area already git rid of all their stuff. I haven't seen anything good in years. I checked back a few days ago, just to make sure, and found absolutely nothing. On the positive side, I still have a bunch of the stuff I bought 10 years ago in my basement, and I've finally started going through it. It's like Christmas, and my kids are loving it. -
Again, I apologize for any offense. I didn't mean to come off sounding like a jerk. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better and hope that your health continues to improve. I was simply trying to figure out how much longer I need to wait. My e-mail asking about an ETA went unanswered, so I thought this would be a good place to see what I could find out. I have no intention of canceling my order, and will try to be more patient. Thanks for the hard work. I'm really looking forward to playing MULE on the PC with my kids the way it was meant to be!

He put a smilie at the end, so he must have been joking, but I can't find the joke in there anywhere. I would just chalk this one up to an awful sense of humor... Sorry if that was offensive, but that's how the conversations with my wife have been going lately about the money I spent months ago, with nothing to show for it. And it's about to where it's too late to try to dispute it with my CC company if I decide to give up and try to get the money back. So it sounds like people that ordered in October have received them. Any Novembers yet? Thanks!
-
For those that have received them, when did you place your order? (I'm trying to gauge how much more time I might have to wait.)
-
It's good to see people are actually starting to get them. I now have renewed hope that my money has gone to more than just paying Curt's medical bills.
-
So the site says all orders will be shipped by March and it's now March 8. Anyone got theirs yet? I ordered mine on December 15.
