  1. I'm really impressed by this game. It is like a great sequel to the original ports. I love that there is so much that is new but based on the original. One suggestion I have is to add a type of challenge stage every 3-5 stages. Either like Joust, Galaga, and Mario Bros. or have or some kind of boss stage. Although with all the different variations from level to level, maybe this is already there in some form.

    Thank you very much Swami,

Every 5th stage IS a challenge stage where you have to collect all discs before time runs out (for a bonus score). You can't die on those stages. Also, on the 45th stage you go against the Master Control Program as the Main Boss. Additionally, on any stage, if an enemy crashes into the wall, you can escape through the wall which takes you to the Bonus stage where for every second you stay alive, you score 100 points trying to steer clear of the Recognizers that get faster and faster until they ultimately catch you (no death though since it is a bonus). The fun of that is trying to see how many seconds you can last which is displayed at the top of the screen. Watch some YouTube Videos and you'll see what I'm talking about.

  2. I met this guy on Atariage talking about some controllers and he needed fixing so he shipped them to my house from Canada. I fixed them and shipped them back using UPS. I didn't realize UPS wasn't as prevelant in Canada and they wouldn't ship to my friend's address. He would have had to travel nearly an hour just to pick up the controllers so he refused the UPS shipment. I asked them to ship it back to the UPS store since UPS said they would have to "destroy the items" if they weren't claimed....what???? :-o I had to pay to take it out of the UPS store just to go over to the regular USPS and pay again to ship it out from them (which was half the price). He was really cool about it and paid me back by shipping me a Moon Patrol game and offered to pay the extra shipping. I told him not to worry about it. He also happened to be one of the main guys from Collectorvision Games and they had been looking for programmers (me ;) ).

Two years later, I've gotten two Colecovision games under my belt and have gained a ton of experience in classic C, creating Hex sound effects, a Colecovision melody creator and other fun stuff.

All I'm saying is try not to burn your bridges, you never know where they may lead.

P.S. I also recently bought a game from theatarifan and he gave me a good deal on a very fun game.

  3. I was thinking of maybe certain levels you start out as a person and have to run to your corresponding bike creator thing. During the time you are a person, you can throw a disk in up to 8 directions and it bounces off of walls, and maybe bike lines. If the disk hits a bike, the bike is destroyed and the person remains. I'm not sure if they will still have their bike creator object or if it will also be destroyed as well. There could be new obstacles on certain boards where if your bike touches it, you go back to human form and have to run across to another side to get to the bike again. Obviously, if you're hit by a bike or another person's disk, you die.

These are just some ideas that I think could be added to the game, yet I'm not sure it would be "flicker free" after adding the disks, but I could make it so that the disks would be the only things that flicker, which may work well. I would have to look into the bouncing disk idea a bit because the bouncing cannonballs from Tank Challenge really slowed the game down when they were near the walls. However, I've learned a lot since Tank Challenge and I could use a more rudimentary way of bouncing that just affects the X and Y coordinates of the disk when it hits a wall.
If your disk did hit a few walls, should it stop after 3 walls or so, or should the disk hit a couple walls and then magically come back to you??? I could make it hit a couple walls, slow down and fade away into the floor. After if fades away, you are rearmed with the disk since it digitally travels back to you through the floor's grid (Man I can BS stuff on the fly, right?)

Another idea....if you are still armed with your disk and you press the RIGHT Fire button, your character can block a disk hit with his own disk! The enemy's disk would just bounce off of you.

This could lead to some 1 on 1 disc fight levels and/or modes.

I wouldn't mind working on this as a possible sequel, it would have to have all new levels and perhaps (maybe) have a way to escape the arcade machine like ColecoDan said, I think that is a cool idea. Also, on this version, I would eliminate the "ARCADE" mode like Tarzilla said. Most people just play the Enhanced mode anyhow.

Right now, I do not have much time to work on a new game, however, since this game would be based off of Light Grid Racing, most of the code is already written. The hard part would be creating the disk controls and bouncing movement and recreating all the levels. I've already done a similar concept with Tank Challenge, so it wouldn't be all that hard to figure out. I'm thinking this could be a fun game. Let me know what you all think.

  4. I just bought a normal one not the limited edition just wondering why it is so important that you are counting up who bought them? Why do you care?

Bodyshots is just a nice guy trying to document Tron stuff. Hey, what do ya know.... Bodyshots is at my door right now....

Bodyshots: What's up parkfun101, do you like cake?....

Parkfun101: Cake!....That's my favorite food group! ....Mmmmm! This tastes great!

Bodyshots: Keep eating....oh and where is your unopened copy of Light Grid Racing...you know the Limited Edition one?

Parkfun101: Here it is....I have to sit down....I'm getting dizzy....I think I'm going to take a nappy poo....

    Bodyshots: Muayhahahaha!!!!

    Updated List:

    Bodyshots 2 3

    ...

    ...

Seriously though, I do like knowing the exact number of games released. It would be cool to know the exact number of copies that were printed for any game for Colecovision, Atari, NES, etc. Plus, who knows, perhaps 20 years from now a crazy rich collector will try to buy all of our copies in return for our very own island in the Caribbean. This list will help him/her get in contact with us and we will be thanking Bodyshots for all his work while sipping on a nice Pina Colada, laying in a hammock under palm trees.

  5. I have one of those also, still trying to figure out who "Told" is ;-) and why did he sign it...

    That's easy to explain:

My evil twin brother, Ddot (The first "D" is silent), knocked me out so he could write a misspelled name on one of the boxes. While I was out, he took a picture of the misspelling and showed it to me later after he shipped it out so I could not fix the mistake. He knows that my two greatest fears in life are short misspelled names and being late for stuff. So, since he misspelled the name and I was too late to stop him, both of my fears were realized! :skull: :woozy:

  6.

Good luck with that! You should definitely post some pics of it up and running when it's done! Ugh, roaches... shudder.001.gif

After reading about it, I've decided this is the safest plan to cleaning a roach filled console, besides throwing it away.

    1) Immediately Put it in 2 big Zip lock bags
    2) Take it over to a parking lot a mile or more away from my house (bring a bucket of soapy water, rubber gloves, toothbrush, paper towels, screwdriver, rubbing alchohol)
    3) Put on Rubber gloves
    4) Take it apart all the way (with the screw driver)
    5) Clean everything thoroughly (all plastic parts, submerge in soapy water in the bucket, everything else, use rubbing alcohol)
    6) Clean it all again and even clean the screwdriver used, just in case
    7) Put it back together
    8) Put it back in the 2 Zip lock bags even though it appears to be clean
    9) Throw away the tooth brush, rubber gloves and paper towels used at the parking lot....do not bring these items back to the house
    10) Put the NES that is still in the 2 Zip lock bacgs in the freezer and leave it there for 7 days in case I missed anything
(If anyone has an easier way to clean a roach filled console, please let me know)
Finally, take it out of the bags, test it, fix it if needed, and play the NES like it was 1985 all over again and then wonder why you feel something walking on the back of your neck and legs.....AHHHHHHHH! :o

  7. It was a loooooonnnnggg wait for this one, but I finally received my copy after lurking through Parkfun's development posts for the last 1.5 years...

This game is an absolute stunner! Way to go on the true-to-arcade sounds, gameplay, graphics (including the font), and the FUN nature of the game! So happy this is a two-player game, as it was meant for head-to-head competition!

Parkfun101, I think you did an amazing job on this release. I had no idea of your coding skills the first time you jumped on the Forum, when you were looking to overclock the CV's processor. This game is STREAMLINED, rock-solid play, with no flicker, sound, or video lag. Controls are pretty snappy on the grid, and oh those arcade sounds again!

Also, I give you HUGE PROPS on finagling the title change away from copyrighted works, while still maintaining a superb connection to the movie lore we all know and love. Truly impressive!

My only grumble (as a graphic artist) is the choice of colors in the "Light Grid Racing" marquee on the box. The dark colors fade into the background, and it's difficult to enjoy unless you're inches away from the box art. The graphic art itself is amazing though, so great job overall AtariBoy! I am a big fan of your work!

Can't wait to put more hours into this game, an absolute gem to the homebrew community.

Good, then you have NO "grumbles" with me since I did not do the box art. ;) AtariBoy did a excellent cover and I love showing people who come over the box art!!!

I am so glad that you enjoy the game, make sure to look at the manual because it has some tips and even codes for the game to allow you to go to any level on the 1P game and also codes to change your bike color. This project was the type of project that I knew I had to get some sort of approval from Tron fans so I wouldn't make them go, "What....that's dumb..." That is what I said when I saw the new Tron movie and the bikes basically just move like regular bikes and not 90 degree angles like the classic movie. To me it is more mysterious and awesome for a fast moving bike to be able to maintain the exact same speed and turn exactly 90 degrees....that is crazy awesome as compared to a bike using regular physics. Users on this AtariAge Forum really helped make this game what it is.

  8. Man, I can't believe people are fighting over a garbage nes that could potentially infect your home with hundreds of roach eggs.....yuk!!!!! :P

I will be cleaning the NES until it is spotless and eggless outside of my house. I will literally be using a fine tooth comb. Then I will go over it again just to be safe. I'll probably leave it in my detached shed until I get it all cleaned up......roach eggs.....what did I get myself into? :ponder:

  9. Or get one of those bootleg Aliexpress repros. It would make a nice "Will it Blend" video.

For full effect, open the real BB2 with a security bit to show the world it is real. Quickly swap it with the bootleg off camera, and blend the bootleg. Post video to Youtube; laugh while the trolls eat it up! :rolling:

AVGN did something like that with the Nintendo World Championship cart. At the end of the video they showed that it was a fake.

  10. Finally defeated the MCP this morning. Wanted to give myself time to comfortably play all the levels through without skipping any first (though I likely would never have reached this level without the endless continues). What a phenomenal game. 2 player mode, great AI, bonus levels, additional hidden bonus screen, all kinds of new features that radically change the gameplay. An all-around win. Thanks again to all involved for bringing this to fruition.

I'm so glad you enjoy the game, it took 7 months to make, so it is nice to know it worked out well. AtariAge made this game better than it would have been if I had just made it all by myself. The idea for the COOP mode was by you guys on this forum and apparently is one of the coolest features. The Win music was made by my friend Aaron. The MCP, I had thought about making and Tarzilla went ahead and created most of the graphics for it so I took his idea and added some more graphic pieces and made it into a kind of Bonus/Final stage that has doors that open once you collect the disks. Tarzilla also did a bunch of testing which helped me out while I was developing the game. I will say that all the weapons and obstacles were my idea to try to make the game more interesting without making it cheesy. I figured I wanted the weapons to be something that would actually look cool in a sequel to the movie....and if they actually do put any of these ideas in the next movie....I'm sure I will be one of the first in line to see it! :-) Also, the idea of being able to escape may have been from the forum and I added it to the game along with Tarzilla's idea about making it so you have to try to stay alive and for each second you do, you get 100 points. I made the enemy speed up faster and faster till it is almost impossible to avoid getting hit. The longest I have lived on that escape stage is 20 seconds.
