  1. I just want to compare what atari system is worth using on modern TV's or in general...

    Atari 2600 (all large models)

-Plugs into Modern TV Via Coaxial adapter

-Has at least three publicly available models with some difference in board and RF also controller ports, switches.

Well it looks like the original models dont succeed in the usability department, but doesnt count as fully unusable. Plus buying a 70's colortron only takes up space.

Now here is what is on the 2600jr.

-Small forwarded design that takes up less space.

-Can utilize a "universal" RF cable

    -Only Cosmetic changes

-Still bares Six Switches (which in my opinion, makes it a compact sixer)

    -No pack in

This version probably did not sell very well, maybe because it lacked the cartridges to run on at the time.

I really do prefer the Junior over the original models.

  2. Is anyone out there doing really kewl case mods these days?

I know Beetle is. But anyone else? With the MIO project these days, I dont really have time for the painstaking hours it takes to do it.

Heres a concept image I came up with for putting a 1200XL keyboard in an XEGS

Since the 1200XL's keyboard has the 4051 decoders on-board, this would be easy to do, and shouldnt require any changes to the XEGS keyboard cable. The wiring could easily be adapted inside the XEGS external keyboard enclosure. This would get rid of the gay looking pastel colored buttons everyone hates on the XEGS and also provide a really good keyboard instead of the really crappy one that comes in the XEGS from the factory.

These are all of them? Theres not even the whole 5200 in a 2600 jr case.

  3. I have a rev. b board(really rev. c), and all the guides to putting a cartridge port on to it says to take off the 0 ohm resistor(capacitor?) at J13. How do I do this? Just melt it with a soldering iron?

Also, all the guides I see don't show how to hook up the switch to change from games to the internal rom. Is there a guide with pictures and an explanation for that?

Another question, when you connect the cartridge connector and you solder a wire to pin 1, 2, etc, do you solder the wire that goes from pin 1 to the pin 1 on the cartridge port, 2 to the pin 2 on the cartridge port, etc?

This is what im using as a cartridge port, its a part from an old floppy drive. I don't know if it will work, im trying it on a spare flashback 2.

    I suppose that is PC 50 X?

  4. I'm assuming the new one fixed a few of the problems that I had, but the older black GP2X is probably the biggest waste of video game money that I've ever fallen for.

The buttons are too small, stick halfway works, adapter input quit, battery input is unreliable, the unit is overall harder to use than a game system should be, phone plug doesn't play well with many headphones, software quality control/standards don't exist (I can go on about the software for days), unit sometimes freezes playing mp3's, and it stopped playing movies when I updated firmware. It does have some positives. Probably the best speakers ever put on a gaming handheld, great screen, tv-out/docking station, and what software is good, is excellent. But IMO for its cost, it was a huge waste of money, and I'd only expect this behavior out of a $50 mp4 player.

Really the one thing that got me about the new gp2x--they 'fixed' the worst control stick in the last 20 years, by replacing it with something that looks like it's probably the second worst controller in the last 20 years... maybe it handles better than it looks.

What makes the GP2X stick so bad?

  5. Has anyone tried (read:CAREFULLY) removing paint off the Lynx? I have, and you never believe what I saw Under the friggin undercoat... GREY PLASTIC!!! THE SAME COLOR OF THE PAINT!!! All I used was a Quarter and a Dull flathead screwdriver. It feels matte with all of the paint scratched off. (NOTE: paint removers CAN melt plastic)

So it was tough and I managed to get it off. (Please dont hate me) The smell of paint constantly bothers me. So thats why I removed it off the case.
