  1. Thank you for the info, but I will find a 3K. I just want to be sure that I'm correct in concluding the board calls for 16, but the Mouser basket was for 15. I have other parts left over (I'm building mine as NTSC and using an oscillator rather than a crystal) and I want to be sure I didn't misplace a 3K.
  2. Quick question regarding the bill of materials: Finally started assembling my board this week (vacation time!) and I ended up with an empty 3K resistor space. The BOM shows a quantity of 15, and this was what I received from Mouser. However when I carefully examine the layout diagram, I count 16 3K resistors required. Has anyone else noticed this? Or did I make an error somewhere? It's not a big deal, I can replace the missing resistor. Just want to make sure this is the issue before I proceed.
  3. Is it just me, or is that keyboard not even mounted square in the case? Looks to be rotated slightly clockwise. Some very bad things have happened to this 400.
  4. Okay, I can't be the only one whose interest in this SNES Christmas demo is piqued... link please? EDIT: Never mind, found it. Nothing offensive here!
  5. Also, you can just use a 5-pin DIN plug. It will fit. If you do, just be very careful you never plug it into the monitor jack by mistake! This is likely why Atari chose to use a 7-pin for the power supply, to prevent people from accidentally frying their machines.
  6. Not quite a castle, but still... The Goonies
  7. My copy landed in Michigan today, much quicker than I expected.
  8. I probably would've, too.. except it wasn't available back in the day. Disk drives are part of the retro experience. And don't get me started about CRT monitors. I love my Ultimate Cart that I use for checking out works-in-progress or to play games on my XEGS in the living room where I don't want the clutter of a disk drive on my coffee table. But the setup in the hobby room includes a 1050 and an Indus GT.
  9. By that logic, we shouldn't bother with any retro hardware, including the computers themselves. Sorry, this hobby is all about nostalgia and real disk drives are part of the experience.
  10. Ten 4017 decade counter ICs because I saw DrVenkman's Larson Scanner and I wanted to build my own. 😀
  11. What's especially galling in this instance is the fact that there are no 'customers'. This port was a gift to the community from rensoup and the crew. We should all be grateful.

  13. Love the 64k-upgraded 600XL. Only drawback (on stock US machines) is no composite video out, RF only.
  14. Couldn't agree more with this statement. This hobby is nearly 100% driven by nostalgia, and that to me says start with what you know and love. You can always explore the rest of the hardware in time. Get yourself an 800. As others have pointed out, the spectacular Incognito card solves the RAM and OS problems for greater software compatibility. It's not terribly difficult to install, and if done properly, does not harm the machine physically. If that matters to you. Unless you are skilled at soldering/ desoldering, the 130XE will be much more challenging to upgrade and modify, as nothing is socketed on the motherboard. If you plan on doing any significant amount of typing, the 800 keyboard is vastly superior to the XE. There are eBay sellers who are fully capable of safely packing and shipping these. Heck, I've been meaning to pare down my collection. If you decide to go the 800 route, PM me and perhaps we can strike a deal.
  15. Are you looking for the cart alone or paired with the light pen? I have both I'd be willing to make a deal on.
  16. My membership card and welcome letter arrived with issue #141 last year
  17. I can verify this as well. I've left the .CAR image running for days on my Incognito 800 with the Ultimate Cart. Mostly demo mode, but I've taken a few stabs at actually playing the game. I'm not very good at it yet... having a hard time with the controls, figuring out the different moves. Is there an unofficial manual for this somewhere?
  18. One brief statement in an Antic article is hardly a 'historical record', just one man's opinion. And not entirely accurate, either. For example, Apple was still producing their monochrome, composite-in Monitor II until late 1993. And used monochrome monitors of this type were hardly rare in the mid-late 80s.
  19. Thanks for the link, I purchased the 4-pack from him. I only need two, if anyone can use the other two, shoot me a PM.
  20. Wow.. does this mean only ten people pre-ordered Adventure II? And only THREE went for Scramble??
  21. That's pretty... I hope mine turns out as nice. It's been a while since I've assembled a PCB.
  22. Well, we have POKEYmax and Sofia, so we're getting there...
  23. I've always found Illusia's use of a GTIA "window" within a mode E screen to be quite impressive. And I never get tired of Drunk Chessboard's dynamic and fluid scrolling and zoom effects. I guess neither of these are as advanced as Cyberpunk or Near (both absolutely superb!) but they do it for me.
  24. I'd like a 'normal' edition, please... Although the magnets are tempting!
  25. This is the part that santosp included in his Mouser basket.. Glad I ordered my basket when I did, they're on a long back-order now. edit: Digikey shows over 2200 in stock.
