  1. Sure exxosuk said installation and bin file documents I have are the same he's found. Unless you'd like, won't bother to scan and post those. What is posted here are PAK020 schematic with a few handwritten notes of the previous owner, presumably during installation.
  2. My Milan is an early model, pretty sure, and that hasn't the upgraded bus IC's (yet). Runs well at 33MHz, the software load to enable SCSI is there (thanks to Michael for that!), however after trying 15 variations of Adaptec cards (most new excess from the old job), haven't gotten very far other than garbled boot up info. Other than that, is a nice machine. Have been testing an 060 adapter, but wish to confirm with other Milan 060 users if there was difficulty getting the 060 running without replacing the necessary IC’s to get SCSI working properly, or on the original flash, or configurable existing BIOS settings. Haven't checked the ramp up time of the power supply yet, not sure of what to look for, or if a cap change would smooth the ramp up within spec the Milan requires for the 060 installation. Thanks for taking the time, if you know of a user that may not frequent the English speaking boards, would appreciate passing this request on to other Planetoid Atarians.
  3. exxosuk Sent updated documents with a few handwritten installation notes, in German of course Check you MSG box. Soon as I can breeze by the Dutch Rosseta Stone set the wife bought me, maybe German is next BUT, they must revive Atari hardware
  4. Didn't know Alex was still up and running. He set me up with so much cool stuff over the years. I'd say call the number. Email is so passé
  5. Been looking into an RGB monitor upgrade as well. 1224's just don't cut it with vision loss due to age This link has some decent info. http://retrorgb.com/rgbmonitors.html About a year ago, did find some surplus sites with medical quality monitors that would sync to 15Hz, even dated, the business were still asking a high price. Also found an industrial recycling site (China) that offered chassis mount LCD monitors which could scan down to the beloved Atari scan rates. Bookmarked the site, went back just a month ago, site stating it was no longer available. Think getting in touch with some of the Hong Kong based retailers on the big auction site could lead to a find. The business model they follow is not only to list items they carry, but will also search other business at your request. Might be an option. The Sony's take up a lot of real estate, especially if you're a typical Atari fanatic with two or three octopus machines on your desk With the wife's permission looking into a Sony BVM-D24E1WU 24 inch. (PDF Manual attached). Expensive, must be careful of units near end of life when purchasing. Laying out desk space, a desk unit to house all the Atari computers up and down each side, with the monitor centered on the desktop. Of course, the CatBox outfitted Jaguar will surely have it's own connection to the monitor. Just have to swallow the initial cost. Once set up, sure initial cost will fade just like a bad divorce Thread's not too old, and subject covered many times in the past, think it worthwhile to keep it going if just not for "warehouse or liquidation" finds. (funny, misspelling "warehouse" gets your first spell checker corrected word as "whorehouse" ). 082509_Sony-BVM-Monitor.pdf
  6. Thanks to Nick for shipping this out promptly, and safe arrival to the U.S. The GAL programmer is in fantastic condition. Coolest part is I can program Falcon BUS GALS right from an Atari Two Thumbs Up!
  7. GE Soft TT Ram card can handle that much RAM. Not sure if there are others. Likely.
  8. Chronos Key Frame Animator, Phoenix, Zenomorph, DynaCadd, POV, EB MODEL, it's all a game Using graphic output from those programs, and one of the game creator programs, you'll be so busy you'll want to retire, if not already done so!
  9. Nice find on both of your parts. Have experienced in the past some drives, or controllers will or won't work unless they are in the middle or last in the chain. If the ICD DMA controller unit is in the the drive case, it may not be supplying term power to the bus, or power parity. Heck, even when termination is necessary, at times would cause the drive to not boot. Maybe i'm just prone to the strange and unusual.... The scrambled icons brought back the thought. Never found an answer, after fustration like you say, started swapping stuff around. Also, both ICD and AHDI must have the driver configured to see attached devices. ICD utils makes it easy for their driver, AHDI must be configured with another prg to make a reliable boot sector. A questionable floppy disk or disk drive can make it difficult to install a driver. A recently purchasef MSTE had a half inch of thick dust all over inside, blew a coffee cup full of fine silt out the powersupply using an air compressor too. It's all good, right?
  10. They are not really white to begin with, you're seeing yellowing I'd imagine. Simple Green, Purple Cleaner all work well. Took time with scotch-brite gently scrubbing. It will at the least even out the shade somewhat. Been playing with regular washing bleach on vintage (~1974) dirt bike fenders. Those that weren't sun rotted, but extremely yellowed came out pure white after a day of soaking with agitation. Going to try my TT case someday, goes without saying find a test spot to try on first. On eB there are a couple mice options, from purchasing a modified optical mouse, to adapters that can use PC type mice, and used or new Atari mice. Unless going for an original look and feel, would look at one of the other options, Atari mice seem to be going for a lot considering you'll be using a mouse designed as long ago as you have waited for the 68k. Going for a HD is a very expensive proposition. Don't have one myself, there is a device named "Ultra Satin" for about 100 bucks that reads memory cards as opposed to floppy's. The only disadvantage would be locked software like games or other offerings of the time. Pretty insignificant number though. Makes transferring files far easier, and much less expensive than a hard disk set up. HD adapters are astronomically high for the DMA based Atari hard disk connections. When I first purchased my 1040, recall having two 3.25" drives provided the most practicality than anything else. That said, most everything you invest in will be usable when you get around to upgrading to a Mega STE Looking through shareware games, most will indicate if it needs a meg. The early stuff may fill up 512k of ram, but the nice thing about TOS is it doesn't matter. If only PC's had TOS in ROM, may have a chance preventing Windows from consistently modifying itself, apps crashing the O/S and freezing the system, as opposed to a couple bombs dancing across the screen, then taking you back to the desktop:) It's been a long time since installing a Marpet board in my ST, Requires "vintage" soldering skills, but AIRC, don't see why it wouldn't work on a 520ST. Ok, walked out to the shop, box says "520ST". Get a decent ACC program, most good utilities run from that panel. Be sure to install "Dancer.Acc", a viable distraction while waiting for something to process. My ST has TOS 1.02, works with most software from back then. It's will crash on about half the games or demos released shortly after the 1040ST or Mega ST were released. You could use TOS in ROM to load 1.04, the 512k amount of memory will be more noticeable. I'd go for the memory upgrade over a chip TOS update. Think there are hacks showing how to upgrade a 520 to 1 meg of ram, AIRC, involves swapping out the existing chips. Lot of soldering.... Photo where tires can be seen, left fender is a "new" knock off, one on right, plastic fender that came on the bike in 1974. Other two are a set, the cleaner one being same condition of the left before dipping in a 5 gallon bucket of bleach. Have a couple spare Atari mice, you can have one for postage. Message if so, don't follow threads too closely. 28 years, would expect a highly pent up urge for Atari computers in general
  11. Wife informed me she made an "extra card payment today". We went to a rather expensive dinner tonight, think more may follow. Love my Falcon though.
  12. Sold the Falcon Rack (talked you about that). Brother hooked me up with a friend that has a CNC mill. Can program those, may be able to have some rear panels cut for the Falcon, then a standard 19" rack would work. On the back burner. There is a fellow in Germany posted photos of his Falcon mounted in an Mega STE case, want to try that to make up for the "loss" of the Rack. Retired Jan this year, one of the resolutions made was to spend the next two or three years clearing out the shop. Will never get around to restoring half the motorcycles in there, other half will take at least two years. Wife (and I ) will try a bathroom and kitchen remodel. Have lived in the desert for 30 years, time to move on, would really like the North West area, down size with a computer work area inside as opposed to a garage. Have a Milan boxed from another deal that didn't go through due to logistics, it's worth more to trade to me than to sell outright. Don't know what it is yet. That's about the only big ticket item. Picked up a good deal on a TT, needs a few things, ST Ram (have a GESoft fast ram card), think a power supply. Haven't had time to look inside. Prolly trade the Milan for a fancy smacy VME video card, seen some of 16 color lately, want at least 16bit ( know, it's hell to want) . Have a 5.25 IB drive for someone that can use it. May or may not work, powers on. Very dusty. Have two Mega STE's, one recent pickup, once it's tested will offer the main board. Will edit this post after frames and wheels are moved so there is access to the "Atari bench". Wish I was as disciplined as Jens, storing one project before beginning on another
  13. Brad spent quite a bit of time on the phone not long ago, learned much from him. Of course, went through all the neat things in the catalog on a "just in case" basis (really want a German Falcon keyboard with yellow keys), but most of really unique parts are either long gone, or as another said at a different warehouse. Like most of us, he said someday he'd like to get the piles and piles inventoried from the second shop. Seems he and Steve Cohen were friends as well, and had a short catch up there. Ordered some odd ball stuff, FPU GAL for an MSTE, Falcon battery, extended joy stick cables, TT keyboard connector for the Falcon, Falcon IDE mounting kit and cable, other stuff in a decent size box, haven't went through it all just yet. An Atari box, Atari tape, old Best flyer, who says one can't live in a fantasy world He even taked me out of some expensive stuff until one Falcon had been professionally diagnosed (you know where that goes to). Not many other places for price shopping. Been a while since ordering from B&C, never had a problem. Those that think their prices high should look at what used Falcons are going for, sometimes just TOSsed in a box and shipped. Have a couple of those, and would have, should have, paid more to purchase one professionally, at least by someone with shop experience, reconditioned and shipped (in a proper Atari box). IMHO
  14. I'd purchased a Sparrow from Wizztronics many years ago. Think one I had was closer to a ''finished'' Falcon prototype than the one in the above photos. Was hoping that more of the chips were socketed on the unit, but it was very unlike the one above. The CPU and DSP were SMT, prevented too much experimenting. The unit did work well, but as said above, was incompatibe with much of the ''Falcon" software at that time AIRC. Pretty sure the DSP was the higher density SMT 56000, and would have been possible to fit one of the much faster 56 DSP's of the time.
  15. Hi! Did we do a deal with a Screen Eye years ago? That wasn't my stuff on ebay
  16. Yea, other stuff. Things I'm considering letting go; Wizztronics Falcon Rack with AT keyboard adapter (DEKKA like), cart port extender, midi and game port extenders, 1/4'' plug patch kit, hd bracket, floppy bracket. Less power supply. Check out old Wizztronics fliers at Best Electronics catalogue for pricing, my asking price will be very close to those. Milan 040 motherboard, bootable hard disk, workiing FX PCI card, other PCI and ISA cards supported by MiNT. Should be able to set it out on a table, make connections, and fire it up. Only runs at 33 MHz. Has latest patches installed. Manual and incluided set up DVD in German. MSTE motherboard/FPU GAL and 882 & AJAX included TOS 2.05-720k floppy (keeping the case). Have two or three Falcon OEM cases and internal mounting brackets, an ST case too airc. Other items I'll list at the same time just to make more space. Some spares, some new old stock, some IC's. If there is interest in the above items, I wil list them with price in the for sale section. Need to down size and help dad out, every little bit helps.
  17. AFAIK, GCR versions could read and write Apple formatted disk. I have a device called "Translaor O N E", connecto to the DMA port, allowing internal Atari drives as welll as external floppy drives to be read directly by the Atari, with or without MagiC Sac. It's near worth the price of admission to read some of Dave Smalls technical manuals. This is one of the units I'll be listing soon, as soon as taking care of moms funderal is over. From how the manual reads, disk operation is slightly slower than a functioning GCR set up, but is fail proof. For those into really old Apple disk, also have a 5.25" IB drive floppy that could be used with the Translator ONE for whatever crazyness level you need. There is no driver software, just plug it in and it works. If any are interested, will list it here the porper way in the event more than one user has interest. So until listed, no price is set. If there is interest in this thread, or PM's, then I will put it in the sales section.
  18. Nothing from that unit, let set ups like that slip out of my hands twice, not again! . Be dead and gone next time a deal like that comes up. Only thing lacking there is a FAFA16. If I start to think about a FireBee, the whole cycle starts over. At some point, i'd be buying back my own Falcons (and Sparrow and TT and on and on)
  19. Just talked to the owner. Atarian through and through . Very nice machine, near new. Should ship out Monday . Wife is going to hang me from a flag pole when she sees the bank statement. Ronald and myself will both be flying pretty high i'd imagine after he picked up the FireBee I'm going to put some Falcon hardware up for sale. Will only say it's desirable. What is the most "fair" place to list them? Going to ask top dollar, don't want to offend anyone, then kind of consider some of the more hard to find stuff an investment. I mean, look at what this Falcon cost, and I consider it an excellent deal . One thing is I don't want to get into a "your crazy" discussion. I know there is a market forum here, Amibay (sp), then the big site. See where Amibay has specific guidelines monitoring post other than stating interest in an item. Kind of leaning that way.
  20. Got a reply! See if we can get a deal worked out. Wife just looked at me with only a little disgust. That means it's ok
  21. I've tried to contact the seller through the site, seems emails are not getting through, least a copy isn't making it back to my inbox. That's a nice set up for the price, wouldn't mind picking it up.
  22. Not that this hasn't been covered the last 20 years, thought I'd follow up on my results. First mistake, going from a 1040ST when they came out at Federated, to a Falcon with a TT or two in between, assumed all Mega STE's had the high density floppy. Fought like crazy with floppy problems, until catching on the 720k disk were working fine. Even swapped out the drive with the same results. Managed to get the EZ 135 up with ICD 6.5.5 (and Link), as it was on a older disk. My STE has TOS 2.05, and the WD chip. Since bugs were fixed in 2.06, think it a good upgrade to the machine. After reading on Brad's site about how Mega STE's are fussy with the HD floppy's, even with an Ajax chip installed, may just leave that as it is. 30 bucks is 30 bucks. The EZ drive is much more productive a way to move software around, especially seeing now most everything is floating around or been cracked (he says with a tear in his eye . I'll Jekyll and Hyde the Falcon and STE together (it's still ok to say that isn't it?), that gives a decent file transfer protocol as well. The other upgrade considered is a 68881 or 2. Need to look at DynaCadd, Chronos and Phoenix to see if they support the 881 (2) on a 68000 before going further. Guess all I need is a GAL (anyone that can burn one up, sell and ship, would be grateful, have the FPU's). Noticed a lot of innovative hardware for the ST(e) since last booting one up. Being a Thrift Store hound, have picked up old Apple drive cases and CD drives for a buck or two, and other hardware that was compatible. This town has a large military base that use to be heavy R&D, before the government started selling stuff for scrap, lot of deals to be had. Honestly have supported the Falcon market more than I could afford since 1994, so am likely not to upgrade much on the STE. Thought I talked a lot about fitting an 060 on the Afterburner....... First CD R+W tested did not show up on ICD, HD Driver 7.5.6 or ExtenDos 3.04 scans. No worries, more where that came from. Got a nice ($2.00) Lacie case with a TEAC CD-R558 connected, it was immediately recognized. Did set jumpers on the back (whether or not it mattered) to No Parity Check, small Long Block Size. ID is switchable on the case, as is selecting TERM power to the bus or not (enabled, that's two sources to the Link, including the EZ drive). ExtenDos was being fussy running it from the EZ, today ran the install from floppy, with appropriately named directory folders on EZ disk, went like a breeze. Did notice once changing disk, the system seemed to loose the directory of the newly inserted disk, but not on another. Not sure what the hick up was, maybe something to do with the ICD driver. Picked up an old 1984 Sears 4084 RGB 15" monitor, has the old RGB plug, need to make a cable up. Don't have too high hopes, but you never know, at $5.00 figured it a deal, if not for gaming. Also found a SCSI II Compact Flash unit made by Accent, imagine for Mac's. No reason that shouldn't work either. Found a couple of auto folder utilities wrote (apologize for forgetting the authors name) for the STE that boot it with cache on at 16MHz or 16Mhz cache off, so as not to have to use a CPX. Sure makes it snappier! Other than just blowing some of my last paycheck on the last two Wizztronics Falcon RAM cards Best had, that's about it for this endeavor. I know, not very techie from what I see going on with development here, but it was a good refresher course for me .
