  1. Thats pretty cool.. i still wanted to do adventure international more than infocom though.I saw frodo, but there seemed to be an invasive agreement in order to download it..
  2. For me a major drawback is that it won't work with projectors. The frustrating thing is the first one will work with projectors, but it is cartridge only, no SD. So if you have a $200 multicart that wont move in the cartridge port, cool. The later models have a tv button that blocks the video signal out, not only on projectors, but some tvs. The latest 2015 model has a slightly bigger screen, looks way better.how many will i have to buy, as they start to get things right, only one new change per model? Its really frustrating trying to figure a way to use the a/v out, but shot down every time. Then, i test the first model, and it automatically works with every tv and projector ive tried but no SD slot.
  3. Darn it, i wanted to see if i could actually play scott adams adventures on my phone!
  4. droid99nogo.mov I tried it on a samsung phone, it won't work and makes crazy letters. Anyone have this same or similar problem?
  5. Which is sad, but i bet this was done closer to the time the machines came out, than right now. Not the exact same motivation either.i know a guy that worked for a company near silicon valley that destroys old stuff in warehouses and company's storage or extra space. Every day they ruin stuff that could be sold on ebay or given away. He took lots of samples of 80s videogame books, lots of classic stuff due to the area.mankind is probably not too good at historical preservation in general.but at least there are several people who are the opposite of this teenage idiot.
  6. And thats the only response he got from us, not a direct one, he would have to egosearch to find our reaction. So, i dont think we necessarily played right into it and gave him a predictable reaction. But one cannot avoid reacting at all.
  7. Well, i just watched the video. This one is much worse than the one i was talking about. The other one was much shorter, white guy comes and smashes a ti in a few aeconds and the video is over. I talked to him, and the admonishing did seem to help, based on his response. Now this asian guy is much more dangerous.first of all, hes like an ignorant teen with no life whatsoever type of thing, who wants negative attention.then, he is a tech terrorist, because he destroys information, like how they burned books in fahrenheit 451, the nazis burned books in reality, and like the taliban destroying historical sites and knowledge. The other video was like a guy smashing ann old thing he found in the closet and realized he was being ignorant. This guy uses computers to become semi literate about things while remaining ignorant overall.this is the sort of thing that ebay has caused, a restructuring of antiques, both good and bad. My prediction is this young man will likely be in some trouble with the law, or in jail before he is 30. Killers start by torturing animals. This guy lavishes over the destruction, and makes it take a long time. Next, he could move on to bigger things like destroying servers, smashing phone connections, hacking for ill intent, destruction of phone company property, whatever. I couldnt help but think while watching the video, this guy is such a waste of good air. He is sad, and brings it to all of us.
  8. Actually, it was an older video, of a guy smashing a ti that i was referring to, not this one. Thats why i commented, i hope there are not a lot of these videos.
  9. I chewed out one of the ti smashers on pootube, i hope there wasn't many videos of people doing the same thing. It actually helped, because he apologized, and said it made him think about what he was doing more.
  10. A TI in one and a Commodore in the other
  11. This is one of the 2 letters I sent Jacques. I spent hours and hours looking for this, and finally found it! I will post the other if I can ever find it.
  12. I would like to do drawings for the TI community on such things as game box covers, manuals, advertisements, software documentation, newsletters, etc. If you are interested let me know, I will do it for free based on time available. I will upload some samples here, so you can see if it is something which you would like or not. I wrote the article on Mickey Cendrowski but did not do the graphics. James I accidentally posted this earlier here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/245014-homebrew-ti-994a-art-for-free/ But it was supposed to be placed here in programming.
  13. Or maybe before, I seem to draw pretty slow.

  15. Does anybody have any old VHS user group videos to link to or upload to the Internet Archive? Charlie Good gave me a series of DVDs one time, and nobody has been able to copy them, or even play them in some parts. They are the damdest DVDs I've ever seen. I uploaded what would work, and there are LIMA videos with folks like Barry Traver and others.

  17. I have problems getting usb joysticks to work, and with getting emulation to work in general. Haven't tried the retrolink cable. Neither syzygy rev 1 or 2, and controllers plugged into a 2600daptor II would work. What I did is to turn USB Overdrive off by leaving the enabled box empty, unchecked, or unclicked. (I guess that program didn't help) Then, I tested Atari800MacX with the joystick plugged in before opening Atari800MacX, and then again with it plugged in after opening Atari800MacX. I also clicked preferences, Atari tab, and clicked 'use international keyboard translation', which I saw in a forum. Before, no keyboard or joystick input was having any noticeable effect, except If I plugged in the controller before opening Atari800MacX, the character would make a hard left after pressing start, and no effect if I plugged it in after opening Atari800MacX. The only input I that worked was the mouse, menu, and using the mouse with the function key window. After "turning off" USB overdrive and perhaps because of the keyboard preference change in the emulator, both Syzygy and 2600daptor 2 joysticks worked. However, it works on the second try, at least on this mac. Something about if the joysticks are plugged before or after the emulator is loaded makes a difference. So you plug in the controller, open the emulator, it won't work, and then unplu and replug the controller, you re-open the emulator and it should work. I tried plugging in the joystick after opening the emulator the first time, and that did not work. It was only after leaving the controller plugged in and re-opening Atari800MacX again after that did the controls just suddenly work. Not sure why all this is. The 2600daptor worked on the first try later, and was stuck on autofire somehow, but the syzygy seemed to work normal. Hope this helps. It sure was frustrating trying to get this to work.
  18. Another article Jacques did is 13:1:21. Converting TI-Artist instances with more than 9 columns, by Jacques Groslouis. Basic listing for TIA2FW5G.
  19. Can't seem to add this to the original post. Maybe too many attachments for one post.
  20. I tried contacting the house, but had a bad feeling about it. Sure enough, I think his wife answered and said, "Jack is dead." She then said, "I can't hear a word you're saying." and hung up. I will try contacting through the mail, as maybe that would be less upsetting. If they don't respond, then I will not try to contact them again.
  21. Jacques Groslouis was a member of the TI99 HOF, or TI-99 Hall of Fame. He was active on the TI groups such as Atariage, TI group #1, TI group #2, etc. He wrote the article "Using RANDOMIZE with seeds" on September 20, 2009 and "Getting There From Here", about connecting the TI to modern computers. He wrote the games SUDOKU and C99 Games and FRUSTRATE. He converted the games Al Capone, Labyrinth Inferno, and TI Sweeper. He dabbled in Assembly Language and was well versed in the Molesworth and Lottrup books. He was very knowledgable about FunnelWeb and wrote and article about that computer environment. Jacques was a retired accountant and member of the Rotary Club. He enjoyed visiting with his extended family and taking his wife to their favorite restaurant. He was a person that was always kind and helpful. I couldn't say a bad thing about him, and I couldn't even say the same thing for myself. Not only was he helpful, but he often went out of his way to help. He mentored me in TI, and taught me most all I know about Extended Basic, TI Basic, and was helping begin to learn Assembly Language. He was a very nice man, and a great friend. I sorely miss him, no doubt. I would often Skype him, and look out his snowy window or gaze at his TI setup with computer, PEB, books, and disks. We often stopped talking about computers and begin to chit chat in general. He was a positive role model and an endearing person. Although I never met the man in person, I have talked to him on the phone, Skyped, emailed, mailed letters, and received disks and books from him in the mail. I enjoyed talking to him, often several times a week, and working on programs and problems together. He was a French Canadian who spoke mostly English. He visited a couple of the big TI gatherings throughout the years, such as I believe the Lima fair. He was a proofreader for many a document on the CYC disk, and I think a friend of the venerable Charlie Good. Je' t'aime, mon Oncle. Je' t'aime. 22. What does line 290 mean? I thought it meant IF you typed R,L, and space then the program branches to line 210 but that does not happen? If I type R or L the program does not branch to line 290. Perhaps I should have tried typing just a space. Does it mean IF R AND L AND space THEN branch? Notes : In the book, the story has 4 team members trying to cross a gorge one at a time on a harness attached to a line or rope. The array ACT$ holds the names of the four team members. Line 720 has a non-TI command that places the cursor at coordinates. I used Display At with coordinates, without printing anything. It appears the "rope" printing is done in lines 580 and 640. I don't know how you would modify this to PRINT what is intended or if there is a TI function just to place the cursor anywhere. The "Microadventure" books no longer support TI at this point, Book 7. The last Book is #10. The book came out in 1985, and I think the TI was discontinued in 1984. 300-320 seems to print a dropping off the person to there doom by PRINTing in the natural vertical fashion. I assume the rope crossing printing is supposed to be horizontal somehow like the bar in line 100. Maybe the "@" in line 580 and 640 is used to show the harness going left and right horizontally on the line. I am not sure if Line 390 is correct syntax as it has SEG$ with an array name inside of it as a parameter. The program is a mess of jumping and branching. Y=2 in line 5, but changes to 10 in line 90 without being used for anything yet. Why change y=2 to y=10, when you can start off with y=10? In line 70, If I don't change the value of CL$, the program never reaches line 210. I may be wrong, but I never got to line 210 that I know of until I changed CL$ to any string but "OFF" as mentioned in line 120. Line 150 GOSUBs Line 560 which leads to GOSUB 720 with one return at the very last line 730. What happens if you GOSUB a GOSUB and then RETURN? Should the RETURN send control back to line 160 or line 570? I am not sure why X needs to equal BX in line 570. I added line 5, OPTION BASE 1. BOOK 7 PROGRAM 4 5 OPTION BASE 1 10 ACT$(1)="BRONZE" 20 ACT$(2)="FRIEDA" 30 ACT$(3)="ARCH" 40 ACT$(4)="ORION" 50 J=1 :: B=1 :: Y=2 60 L$="B" :: Z$=" " 70 CL$="OFF" 80 CALL CLEAR 90 Y=10 :: GOSUB 710 100 PRINT"+--------------------+" 110 BX=2 120 IF CL$<>"OFF" THEN 210 130 BX=5 140 FOR I=1 TO 10 150 GOSUB 560 160 NEXT I :: GOSUB 680 170 FOR I=1 TO 10 180 GOSUB 620 190 NEXT I:: GOSUB 680 200 GOTO 140 210 GOSUB 700 220 IF BX<2 THEN BX=2 :: GOSUB 350 230 IF BX>20 THEN BX=20 :: GOSUB 420 240 Y=5 :: GOSUB 710 250 PRINT"ENTER L OR R" 260 INPUT M$ 270 IF M$="R" THEN GOSUB 560 280 IF M$="L" THEN GOSUB 620 290 IF (M$="R")+(M$="L")+(L$=" ") THEN 210 300 FOR KK=1 TO 10 310 PRINT TAB(5);L$ 320 NEXT KK 330 PRINT"YOU DROPPED",ACT$(J) 340 END 350 IF B=0 THEN 380 360 PRINT "AT STARTING POINT " 370 RETURN 380 PRINT"PICK UP",ACT$(J) 390 L$=SEG$(ACT$(J),1)!LEFT$(SEG$)IN BOOK 400 B=1 410 RETURN 420 IF B=1 THEN 450 430 PRINT"HARNESS IS EMPTY" 440 RETURN 450 Y=4 :: GOSUB 710 460 PRINT ACT$(J);" MADE IT" 470 Z$=Z$+L$!PROBABLY & NOT + IN TI XB 480 Y=10 :: X=20 :: GOSUB 720 490 PRINT Z$ 500 J=J+1 :: B=0 :: L$=" " 510 IF J<5 THEN 540 520 PRINT "ALL ACT MEMBERS ON OTHER SIDE" 530 END 540 GOSUB 700 :: PRINT"FETCH NEXT MEMBER " 550 RETURN 560 BX=BX+1 570 Y=10 :: X=BX :: GOSUB 720 580 PRINT"[email protected]" 590 Y=11 :: GOSUB 720 600 PRINT " ";L$ 610 RETURN 620 Y=10:=BX::GOSUB 720 630 BX=BX-1 640 PRINT"@-" 650 Y=11 :: GOSUB 720 660 PRINT L$;" " 670 RETURN 680 FOR K=1 TO 500 :: NEXT K 690 RETURN 700 Y=1 710 X=1 720 !LOCATE Y,X 730 RETURN
  23. It is with much, much sadness that I learned of the death of Jacques Groslouis. He was a great friend who I knew through the phone, email, skype, and letters in the mail. I never actually met him in person. He helped me learn TI BASIC and XB. He helped me try to write 3 game programs and other programs. He gave awards to TIer's of note until right before his death, and he still could think in complex programming ways terms even in old age. He was very generous helpful and nice. I even referred to him as 'Mon Oncle', My uncle in French. He was my 'TI mentor'. I hadn't talked to him lately, and when he didn't respond to a few of my emails, I googled his name, and sure enough. http://www.inmemoriam.ca/view-announcement-450740-jacques-jack-groslouis.html Although he had cancer, he seemed available and in better health lately, so It must have been something sudden. I knew him for over 10 years, he was always helpful, and I miss him powerfully already. Frankly, I feel terrible. To remember the good times, he was always there to help me, impart his knowledge, and I enjoyed being his friend. James
