Atari Announces Flashback 2.0
BeerGnome replied to Jetboot Jack's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
hey.. modding is going to most likely require custom cabintry. so if you want to repalce the pushe button thingies with the original switches go ahead.. a switch is a switcha after all. if you cant mount them directly, then just re route them' the mod I intend to do is mounting directly into my computer via a video capture tv tuner cars, the board is going to be put intoa 5.25 bay with all controls inthe face plate, witht eh cart port mounted in a floppy bay. the only limit you have is your imagination and your wallet.. so let fly -
yep, three hours sounds about right, and there are some freinds I can visit if I do go. I haven't checked them out yet, I was thinking about it I wanted to get y'alls opinion first on the matter. I belive these guts came from an upright.. think it would be very difficult to slap it into a cocktail?

so a freind of mine has all the working guts to a frogger cabinet.. but no cabinet.. he say's he's interested in getting it all back up and operating.. so the question is.. how expensive.. and how available are these cabinets

My "Arcade in Progress" pics and my newest cab
BeerGnome replied to icbrkr's topic in Arcade and Pinball
oh.. my kingdom for a basement... or a garage.. or a frestanding house of my own with either looking good! a little suggestion on the camera... if it has scene settings for say a night shot or lowlight"party"mode use those settings for dark shots like that.. and of course.. a tripod or sitting the cam on a flat steady surface will help to stabalise the shot -
The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
BeerGnome replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
well.. not really a thrift find.. but I was over at the Breweries chief maintence guys house yesterday getting a new powersupply for my main computer. and my god.. either this place is a tinkers wetdream, or one of the worst case of urban hording I've ever seen in my life! I meen wall to wall antique techniology all over the place.. I came out of there with not only a new(to me) PS for my computer, but also a old composite input monitor, and I'm gonna snake that in the box vic 20 as well he also has an assload of never opened Tandy color computer carts that he snaked on a dumping deal. several appleIIe's with drives.. a complete set of guts to a frogger cabinet.. that works ( just needs a cab ) I swear I should've started grabbing pics of some of this stuff -
that is the emu I ended up downloading.. and I'm snaking from rom-world, they seem to have a pretty good selection of stuff, and not too buggy. I will admidt that for on the move gaming like the game boy provides, I'm in prefrence of puzzle type games.. super mario land hopwever sounds promising, except that rom dump I found seems to have either removed all things mario, or renamed them.. hard to tell... platforming I can deal with..adventuring.. not so much on a hand held, so I'm gonna leave zelda out.. besides..thats the wifes crack game not mine...elvator action and donkey kong sound promising however...
-
yeah.. I actually found something very nice allready, and a nice EMU site as well.. nothing mario on it unless they re-named it hmm.. I should move this question over to the clasic gaming general
-
I recently acquired an original Gameboy.. the big brick sized one. well.. considering I always wanted one, but never got one as a kid.. I'm not particuarly familer with the titles that are available for it.. I'm putting this thread in this forum becouse I want to know about any good Game boy Emu's.. places where I might be find some roms to stick into it so I can try them out before trolling E-bay for carts for the thing. right now its my go anywhere Tetris machine, and I primarly got it just for that purpose, but I do want to have a little more expanded libray and what games would y'all recomend for the system?

oh yeah.. NPR isn't just for commie pinko liberals any more I'm a tottal junkie. a really fun show is "wait! wait! Dont tell me!, the NPR new s quiz where they have a bunch of celeberties quizzed on the news events of the week, and callers in. the prize for completing a challange Is Carl Castles ( the voice of NPR News) voice on your answering machine.. hey it's NPR what you want? a free car? but a couple of weeks ago.. the"ina world" "voice of god" movie trailer voice over guy was a call in guest and it was fuggin incridible! but man I really want this game.. I've been watching the development for months now.. and now that its out.. I gotta put my old as hell car in for inspection and all that jazz -

if theres any game I would by this year.. its going to be this game.. I decided that LAST year... I'm glad to hear so many cool reviews.. I hope to have it in my grubby little paws by the end of the weekend growing up and going out of my way to collect cheesy scifi hoor films.. c'moon..this is right up my ally!. goodness..it takes me back to the game that really got me into FPS's..redneck rampage -
one last thing.. I don't see forgories as becoming a major problem untill another ten to twentie years.. by then.. any thing wild will have been snagged up, or just plain dead, and the hardware will be starting to rot away. then you'll have folks hacking technology like the upcoming FB2 and shoving it into a repo heavy sixer case... that IS something to worry about

see.. we call that squeezing mr. Lincoln 'till he screams. for our International friends, this is a refrence to Abraham lincoln being on the U.S penny the smallest coin in the denomination.. "a penny pincher" is someone who's very cheap and seeks to "squeeze" every last cent out of something. hence.. a bloated penny pincher would be as such refrenced in the previous epthit 878544 BeerGnome, I would add to your reply by saying that if Atari memorabilia rises in value enough in years to come, then a practice such as the one I mentioned may become real. Collectors in the future may need to have a much more critical eye than we do now. It all depends on the market. If there was a demand for original price tags, forgeries would then be expected. I find this topic intesting because I have actually received a couple of re-wrapped games. It indicates to me that bigger and better versions of this "squeezing" may possibly become a major consideration of serious collectors in the future. 878568 well thank you sir, or madam whatever the case may be. old video games is not the only type of Antique I deal with.. things like this are starting to float into the community and I'm getting called on more and more by the folks who deal mostly in clothes, furniture and silver to help identify something thats consumer electronic orintated. mostly its common sence.. and you gotta look at whats availble to the average consumer today and how it relates to whats actually out there. then and now.. I meeen any one can get a heat shrink machine and film at any craft store.. and virtually any video store that deals in used videos and games is gonna have a method of repackaging.you want to look at wear points.. like the top flap where one would open up the box to take the game out.the first time a machine is going to fold that lip into place its going to be fine.. as soon as you open up, the ink is going to buckle and break. if theres a white tattered line.. then indications are good that the box has ben previously opened. . inside..the cart should be clean of any dust, and show no sign of oxidation or UV damage whatsoever. I don't count manuals or what not becouse a good zerox can do all that and more. the only thing I wouldn't count on this for forgery is in the case of activision games, where actiplaque is pretty much just going to happen any ways... I could be wrong.. I claim to be fairly good.. but by no meens a complete expert. in fact..actiplaque as far as I know can be a very good indication that all is original. If I'm wrong.. someone please correct me and explain why. we don't need any more repeats of antiques roadshow and the $300 combat cart the way fleabay works, the process can be ripe with forgeries. you can't really see indicators like that on a small picture.. so pretty much..when I'm hitting the online auctions its for getting stuff I really dont care about what I'm getting.. if the auction says new and unopened.. eeh.. I'm getting it for a game I want and I'm going to open it.. for the real deal I want to hold it and examine it, and I have sources I can rely on for that stuff where I can. but I'm not really into the gotta have it all when it comes to this hobby.. I just pick up when and where I can.. and pay attention. when I do so.. I'm sitting on a coleco vision in and out of the way thrift store right now.. and to tell you he truth.. I'm more concerned about the dust cover and the plastic tray cover then the unit it's self.. wich is missing its power brick.. and as we know.. its useless without that brick. it also has a whole mess of games as well.. too bad they're all for atari.. and what got me looking at this thing in the first place was that it had a display case with cart holder, and all the carts were atari.. I wanted to see if the VCS adaptor was in there! unfortunatly it wasn't but what ya gonna do? I'm just gonna go back down there and liberate the system any ways.. talk the guy down to at least $15 and get it for the case

thats been my experience at least.. but keep in mind, it could also be a lousy hack job. but having the box bowed inwards is usueally a result of the slow and relentless ravages of ultraviolet light, heat, and time that evil bastard time everlasting

out and about today with all the nieces.. and they wanted to look at all the puppies at the SPCA before they iced them... any ways.. the SPCA is next door to the salvation army adult rehibilitation center.. well.. better take a look.. oye.. this place is for section 8 crackheads, AND FUGGIN OVERPRICED!!! I men really..this place had some insanely high prices on crapthe appliance and electronics section was for shit.. so I proceeded on my hunt.. the little lady found her self a new moo moo for slugging around the house in.. and I was running up to the counter to pay for it.. when I saw it.. a colecovision console sitting in an orginizing case.. under the glass.. and a whole row of games.. I noticed immeditly that all the games were VCS.. so I'm thinking.. hey.. maybe theres a adaptor in there? I had the chick pull it out of the glass.. price.. $20.. no adaptor.. nice original coleco cover.. no power brick " hey.. uh.. none of these games actually go with this console.. can you part it out?" "let me ask the manager" Dude comes out.. looking like an immciated Mr. Cotter and no one should wear a brown shirt, and a brown tie with blue jeans and black shoes.. espeacially with that skin tone.. but I digress... damn.. I've been hanging out with too many women this weekend.. "ahhh yeah..the price is right there" he says jauhtingly poking at the case "yeah.. but I'm interested in the games.. these are for a Atari, and this is a coleco" peering really fast at it" they arent!? dang.. i thought they were! ahhh.. $1 each" "sounds good!" nothing really exciting mind you.. and I can always go back and take a closer look, I just wanted to snag some things I wanted and didnt have allready. Maze craze night driver Super break out all of those are picture labels and in really nice condition.. I meen..they look almost brand new break out, just text label.. but also very nice condition. I think I'll go back and see if I can swindle this guy down to $10 on everything else -
How do you know whether a boxed game has been rewrapped? Care to share the secret so we won't be fooled ? 877937 I would check for age and wear on the box itself under the plastic shrink wrap. sometimes newer home shrink wrap is kinda.. "elastic" original shrink wrapping can also shrink more over time, actually buckling, or bending the box inward. I'm sure this can be replicated by scammers by overheating the shrink wrap.. but.. y'know..seems like so much trouble to fake age to me. but hey.. if you think you'll get an extra buck for it

Considering how they name these things, it'd prolly be just as appropriate to call it.. Super Funstation Saturn Mega 64 128 Boy Gun Extra Happy Nakamichi Gojira 32,000-1 + "It will fun pleasurable excitement for family the chimpanzees!" 875000 don't you love japenglish? sometimes I'll spout off whitisms like that to my co workers followed by " super number one plus good " and throw my arms in the air and yell "HIKE!" -

Okay..I'll give you the famicon clone.. I forgot wich one they were throwing all over the place.. but this one clearly said playstation... not poly station.. on top and on the controler. and mind you I was kicking my ass for not having my cam on me.. it was just a precious Kodac moment.... 873933 I must requote myself for clarity.. I ment to say "funstation", not playstation... -
now a berak out cab is a fun idea as well.. but mostly ease of repair in a high traffic area for the one box.. I still want to get one of those boards just to see how it works in practice, as for "the real thing" aspect.. considering the majority of people that would see it and use it.. would'nt even have been born to know what, or how pong acted or really looked.. it wouldn't be really important to them.. just give them enough candy to plunk a dime in the damn thing heres an idea.. replace the push buttons with a simple up and down joystick.. I think that would essentially give them the "feel of liniar control.
