1. I was going to suggest that, even Atari pongs are quite cheap and are the closest to the real thing. Just find one loose and do your magic 874187 actually..thinking about it.. ease of maintence in the field would suggest the making a new board that could just be swapped out, with out the modding of an original board wich could be problamatic and difficult in locating on the fly... case in point.. I've never found a pong in the wild around here, and it would suck to have to get into a bidding war on fleabay just to repair this machine
2. sounds good... and thats another reason I was more inclined to use the old boards for backwards engineering purposes, than actual use. my plan was more hooking some sort of relay to the coin mech, and the start button on the game, all interfaced with a cheap little black and white tv stuck in a small table top cab. pretty much all the residual parts I've seen in thrift stores don't those DIY board kits go for about $10? allright... $25.. just found the insperation kit here though..how would one retrack the push bottuns to a pot type control?
3. The cheap ass knock offs are part of arcade history too, and don't deserve to be raped any more than the Atari cabs do. 874152 allright.. allright..point taken..
4. well.. I ment a cheap ass knock off.. not a Atari machine, and yes.. alternitvly.. and for less money, and ease of instilation.. I have seen the build it yourself kits... its just a matter of mapping the game start functions to a coin mechinism. its an idea that I have for a Retro scifi/jetsons themed bar that I frequent, that the owner says he would love to have siting at the end of the bar set up on a dime play. and yeah.. bong machine damn my coffee addled adled fingers
5. man..mississippi is to far to consider. then I always still have the idea of converting a consumer bong machine into a bartop coin op... shouldn't be too hard to engineer
6. yeah..but if its a regional issue.. the games usually dont show up at all.. just a rolling screen
7. y'know..the first time I ever actually saw a PSP in the flesh as it were, the dude showed off the video capabilities with a porno vid that he had uploaded into it now..with that being said... does the PSP not have any form of composite or what not out of the system?.. y'know? a way to hook it up to a TV? I'm thinking it doesn't in any case.. I think .. if not.. that should be some type of feature they should incorporate into future generations.. if anything for the UMB playback... I don't think they should make dedicated decks.. you saw what became of the consumer beta max.. and for that matter.. the Minicd's, while the minidisk is used in a lot of portable music mastering devices.. and beta was virtually a standard for video production until the prolification of Digital... the long term prospects for that format were very limited, and specialised.. and that does not make for a succesful format option..and knowing soney..they'll do thier damdest to keep the format properitary.. they'll have to make a big push into the market place... and they'll have to license the technology porn? it'll be very nitch..but if thier is money to made.. they'll do thier damndest to make it
8. Okay..I'll give you the famicon clone.. I forgot wich one they were throwing all over the place.. but this one clearly said playstation... not poly station.. on top and on the controler. and mind you I was kicking my ass for not having my cam on me.. it was just a precious Kodac moment....
9. there aren't any dangerous life threatning spiders that live in attics.. go check it out.. and she' wouldn't have told you about them, if she didn't want help in at least getting it out of there.. considering I have pulled some fun and interesting stuff out of the reminants of former residents in various houses that my step father owns.. you owe it to yourself to check it out have fun!
10. *bump* check out this link to american science and surplus.. one of my favorite sights for... interesting hacking parts..and stuff in general.. the link will take you directly to the optics section.. and considering the lens should be pretty standard.. you should be able to find something in there that will fit for dirt money
11. if they are both acting that way.. I would be under the assumption that the problem actually lies in the connector itself.. like the lead that conects the fire button is some how funcked up. is the fire button problem in just one paddle or both? that said..try shooting some contact cleaner into the plug. the horizontal rolling.. how are you connecting? are you useing the stock AB switch? maybe its some wierd interferance messing up that connection.. try using one of those direct connectors.. available at any radio shack.. or the AA store
12. went out to chop suey books.. and sold off some of the library that was just lieing around taking up space.. they only wanted one book.. so that trip only netted my $1.. so going back by fantastic thrift.. one of my favorites.. to drop off the left overs.. I had to step inside.. dry... there was a colecovision there.. I was surpised.. but it was missing a controller, and the required power brick... I allready have one.. didn't have the $8 they were asking.. so I passed.. also in the pile of electronics.. was what initially looked like a PS1.. on closer inspection.. it was a FS1.. i just busted it out laughing at this damn thing! it was I think.. a Genny on a chip.. in a playstation case.. I meen.. even the the insgnia looked like the playstation logo.. except it was FS (Fun station) instead of playstation.. even the controller was a rip off.. and when you pressed the "open button on top of the case.. teh clam shell opened up to show a cart port! I allready have three gennys... so that little stop was a bust.. I was broke anyways... so I get home.. and a freind has dropped off for me.. a genny cart of toejam and earl... while not particualry rare.. a very saught after tittle.. he wanted me to have it becouse He knows I would appreciate it... play it.. and he knew where to go to play it again if he wanted to so that's todays schinagins
13. oh.. I would've dropped that genny in that bx and taken it to the front counter.. just becouse EB games sell complete packaged gennys for $30+ don't meen the thrifts are.. and besides.. I have like .. three of the things that people have just givin to me.. damn things are every where! all the other stuff.. nice haul!
14. something I recently picked up for my Box is State of emergancy..an early Rockstar games ported over from PS2 $10 off of fleabay. and basicly.. after playing it on the PS2 and now getting familiear with it on the box.. it seems more like a platforming Design excersize for all the other GTA universe things. still a really fun and funny brawler "mash the A button" game. me and the missus like to just pick it up and go crazy for points. and considering I'm a complete whore for tetris, I have to recomend Tetris Worlds, classic tetris, with interesting expanded gameplay vairables.. never bothered to play the "carreer mode" becoouse.. well.. how the hell can you really make a carreer out of playing friggin tetris. but its obnline capable so you can go head to head with other tetris whores accross the planet. the HALO series, as mentioned is a must have.. its the combat cart of the X-box, and really is the best FPS over all the consoles looking into the futurre.. and becouse I'ma big fan of cheesy mid 20th centry sci-fi/horror.. Destroy all humans will be out later this month and promises to be lots of cool cheesy open ended fun, and will probably be the only new release tittle I'll buy this year
15. in my experience.. out yonder in fly speck..they are eithere trashed.. or going for $0.50
16. I was hip to get mine (virtua boy) for $15. good haul! I also got 2 other games besides so now I'm justifying cost... in any case.. it was a sytem I always wanted as a a kid.. and now I freakn gotit.. and so far playing.. no migranes, nor siezures! ROCK ON! WOOHOO! and yeah..really..why is N64 shit ging so high any ways? its getting ready to be three generations old.. aint nobody camping on nuthin!
17. y'know.. I would be willing to bet, that when the boxes hit the floor.. they had games in them
18. do you have the issue as i do that if an items price tag has become seperated from its item, said item must be returned back into the pricing circulation.. ie..they wont let you buy it or make an offer? of course.. I usually don't deal with good will anymore.. the only one fairly close to me, that deals in electronics is still a bit off the path for me so, I don't deal with them. besides.. I hear goodwill been getting alittle shady on the EBay side of things. my favorite thrift is usually always good for some gems, and they have astrict no employee purchase policy.. of course..there is no guarnentee the pricing guy isn't slipping some stuff in his coat before it hits the floor y'know
19. Do you know if there were marquees for those games? I would love to see what one looked like. I have seen the PM Plus one, but never even heard of the others. Thats an amazing amount of work for you guys. I am always amazed by the work "the pros" put into this hobby (I just hack stuff and make it work again; most of the time!). Amazing, and thanks. C 867120 Here's a pic of my jumpshot. As you can see mine was a mspac instead of a pac. It had full vinyl sideart with hideous black, white, and red horizontal stripes and the bezel had matching stripes. The front was painted black. You can see the jumpshot control panel and marquee. I have some pics of what it origianlly looked like but they aren't digital. The color on my sideart is really nice since it's been covered since 1985. Shoot the bull was the same I think. horizontal stipes on the side art. I had pics of the marquee and control panel but I can't find them now. KLOV has a pic of the marquee. http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=S&game_id=9528 BTW Here's Clays page on how he cracked Pac Plus I did mine completely differently. http://www.multigame.com/pacplus.html 867163 the hacking the blob story is great.. and thanks for the insight on what I have here sitting on my desk. even if its not worth very much, at least its a little bit of history.. and who knows.. this might very well be the little gateway that gets me full time into the arcade side of the vintage gaming hobby any one gotta spare pacman board I could play with?
20. the thrift I raped today had binded the items in nylon threaded packing tape.. while not leaving any residue on the plastic, managed to get the label on one of my brand new to me NES virtuaboy carts torn and messed up other than that... I'm playing the hell out of it and.. no migranes or siezures so far! in fact... its pretty damn cool!
21. there was some CD-i stuff floating around one of my favorite vint stores for a while. I never picked them up becouse I really wasn't interested in hunting a unit down to play them.. and they were all sports related, and I'm not really into sports games.. so.. eeh I really ned to do a better job of grabbing stuff up as trade fodder at least. but that zelda game you grabbed.. the little lady is a big ass zelda fan.. most of the Nintendo units I got were got just for her to play itterations of zelda and from all the reviews, screenshots, and video out takes of that game.. it's fucking cheesy ass awful, I meen, if you take vcs ET, and pacman, and combine them into some sort of hybrid creature that epidimises all that is wrong in the world.. nay.. verily to make the insidisdiously evil darth sidious, get up with Mr. burns and have them both twiddle thier fingers and say "egggselent" and the prospect of something so evil and barbouse to all that is holy.. you've got a gem in any case.. I coul'dnt leave well enough alone today, and after the little lad got off of work from waitressing.. we slid on back there and did some more cleaning. I managed to get a VCS keyboard controller with teh star raiders inlay still in there, and a original gameboy with Tetris and street fighter. actually.. the game boy I got didn't have tetris in it.. but the nice young lady with the purple hair let me switch the games between the normal GB, and the Clear one that I actually got. and now.. the GB shall never leave my side as now I have tetris on demand, and its not the tiny little K7Rave virgin mobile tetris.. original gameboy tetris luvin so lets see todays haul... crazy arcade PCB kit .... 3.89 VCS keyboard controller..1.98 NES virtua boy, complete, 3 games 14.95 game boy with tetris and sfII 6.98 damn cool finds, and I spent 27.80 not a bad day thrifting, evenif I didn't turn up any VCS games
22. while I hope to get into arcadeing at some point.. nope.. however.. down the street from me is a little shop called "games people play" on Boulivard here in richmond ( I can virtually spit at the place) they deal in pin ops for private sale and concession. but yeah.. it came with 6 ROM chips as well as this big hunk of plastic stuff.. so Pack plus is the speed up hack? I need to check KLOV. also the board is incased in this lexan material.. like laminated, and it has broken away from its nylon standings.. and I did pick it up becouse I knew it was something strange to find in a thrift, and considering it was a coin op related product.. I knew that $3.98 was a really low price for it.. seems like some specialised equipment anyone know what type of prices items like this might go for? I'm sure back in the day this would be a couple of bills to the arcade operators
23. now if only I could find my battery charger so I can take a better picture I also found a complete and working virtua boy today $15
24. found this over at Fantastic thrift, for $3.98, I had to grab it up now..what the hell is it? and what the hell do I do with it? basicly, it sez right on the front, "authorized enhancement kit no. 12802 and its all the chips for pac plus. So at this point, to see if it would work, I would have to get a pacman PCB, then gut that to put this in huh? in anycase..check out the pics...
