The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

managed to find a pacman, pacplus kit for an arcade PCB! price? $3.98 also, a complete, working, Nintendo virtua boy, with three games for $14.95 I didn't find the virtua boy to be that uncomfortable ecept where I had it set up.. I'm a rather tall fellow, so there needs to be special accomodation.. other than that.. something interesting for the collection, and something I always wanted as a kid the PCB.. not sure what to make of it.. I have to hit the arcade boards for this one, but anything pacman related, I'm sure less than $5 is a pretty good score -

Atari Announces Flashback 2.0

I like the small form factor mods for all the wierdness folks have been doing.. but theres something to be said about the looks on folks faces when they enter the den of inequity here with all the operating and networked equipment and assorted "crap" seems as though the wall of technology is impressive. my actual latests mod is complety on computer related.. well.. sorta.. my new entertainment center is a late 60's console stereo, the kind that had the runers and turntables and 8track players and speakers all built into one giant piece of furnature. the thing is made of oak with a birds eyemaple vaneer. unfortunatly all the componants were long stripped from it, and the only thing left in it were the speakers. wich turned out to be of remarcably good quality. once I rewired them.. they sounded perfect.. and incredible! so here we are with it having new electronics in the form of my old stuff with satilite TIVO dvd player, and considering the bottom cabinet where one would store records was so huge.. all that stuff fit in there to one side, with a fabricated shelf hold four vint game consoles into a installed sytem selector switch going to the TV. damn thing looks damn classy and allthe componants are hidden perfectly with the doors closed. now.. i could move the TIVO from the middle cubby, and turn that space into a speaker enclosure for center channel so at this point I would have the front surrond up front all in one enclosed space.. -

well.. I recently aquired this GIANOURMOUS old gateway 2000 case that I plan on modding for modern hardware. the thing has four 5.25 bays, and four floppy bays on the front. so at the very least I can have one optical bay for the FB2.0 card and selectors, and use a floppy bay for the cart port. personaly.. I'm no so concerned about showing off guts, but I may throw some wood grain contact paper on there at the controls -

You were already batty the day you started posting here. 856003 I'm getting a couple flashbacks. One I am going to make the slot in the side possibly, most likely in front. We'll see when that time comes. Another, is... going inside of my PC. This weekend I'm heading to Home Depot and get me some plexiglass. I plan on cutting my pc case to the very bare minimum, its all going to be plexiglass. Taking out the dvd-rw, and literally intergrading the flashback 2.0, with a cartridge slot coming out the top, into my computer. Should be fun Might even get some lights and make the thing glow. 856158 I plan to shoehorn the whole thing into a 5.25 bay with cart slot, power tap off the computers ps, and pipe the audio and video directly into a cideo capture card -
good lord.. so this guy basicly built a VCS from scratch and shoe horned it intoa nomad? sick bastard, I give it to him.. he has more engineering skills than I, not to mention free time.. but I read design time as four hours.. thats either severe ADD, or cystal meth, or a combination of both.. either way.. nice project

Frosting the glassisn't as expensive as you may think.. you can get liquid etch at any craft store that handles stained glass and other glass painting stuff.. basickly you make a stencil, prefibly using a sticky backed vellum, and dab this goop on.. you wait about ten minutes, then wash the stuff off and bam etched glass! heres a link that has Etchall On it

I just pulled out a sega cart and found this amazing security screw... it looks to be a #2 torx with the pole in the middle.. so heres what you do... go to a auto supply store.. these screws are also used on a lot of foriegn cars.. they might have one theres also the ability to take a regualr torx driver, crank it down into a vice and using the smallest drill bit you got, possible something dremel, and turn it into your own little security driver

this picture is bringing the most tears right now.. from left to right.. back to front.. Cab.. ya dirty hippy is in the white shirt.. 80's frank.. Kareoke DJ dejour in blue.. Rick sharette who's camera took all these pictures and was the cave man..currently in portland Oregon pining for his limited edition firebird thats living under a tarp in georgia.. the big goof ball in the green shirt is me.. and the gentleman in leather to mr right is Chris "crash"whitman, currently residing in orlando florida going to Harley school.. this man saved my life. my brother stood beside me.. but crash was my best man. upfront, the two ladies are my lovely wife ( love the T-shirt!) and beside her is Chrissey, Ricks wife, whom at age 24 is 6 months away from her doctorite in Child psychology the only person missing is Jeff "carebear"webb who had to move back to kentucky. but...it was better that he did.. he's a good man, and he's getting better there. but lord knows when a picture like this could ever be taken again
