  1. yeah.. I should've throw up a query around here when I first set off to acquire this common game... But tiss always the danger of Fleabaying at 3 am after well.. quite a few Barley pops. I have however been having some renewed success with the thrifting. However.. the majority of my collection has come from vintage stores, freinds.. and the prenial dumpster diving the biggest problem I've noticed with the common carts is the horrable states they tend to be in.. I had to completly disect space invaders to get it to work as the caseing had been mutilated.. so I have to play it by just inserting the PCB into the console.. I'm thinking of sacraficing a Pacman cart for the restoration purposes, Donkey kong is just DEAD but the Atari card will not fit inthe coleco case
  2. Allright.. I have the simple solution to everyones problem.. we kill Philly classic all together.. then start up a new cnvention in richmond that will include all concepts of electronic gaming from classic consoles and arcades, to modern... now we move it fromthe north east to the central south east.. thats right.. we move it to Richmond Virginia.. where yer able to travel in on I-95 and its less than 24 hours driving time from the furthest point north, or south along this interstate. of course.. this is most convient for me, trey, yarsrevengefan, and cassidy nolan. now the rest of y'all will have to travel.. and I'll make it so the event incompasses all facets, in a unbiased and equal way.. loads of resturants in richmond.. fun stuff to see and doo.. and the hotel rates will numb you with thier prices
  3. allright.. to you its monday night.. to me.. its saturday night.. all right. its after midnight. so its technicaly sunady morning. to you tuesday.. confused yet? in any case.. today was my day to hit all my vintage store contacts around town.. so heres todays haul.. Warlords.. $4.75 I've ben rabid about getting this game for a couple of weeks and I find it in the wild.. I could've talked sharron down on it.. unfortunatly.. sharron wasn't there.. the ironic thing is.. I had just sent off my money order out to the dude on flea bay for the exact same cart.. for the exact same price.. please.. kick me now.. in either case.. I now have two copies... I was rabid on account the kids at the pub wanted to throw down some warlords action after hours.. and my god. I forgot how FUN this game is! allright.. next couple of hits.. not atari.. but fun none the less... TWO for ONE! Microsoft sidewinder game pads.. TWO of them.. $3.25.. both work just fine.. now all I need is a dual port controller card.. now the indulgence of the beerness of my life.. I picked up a character mug for $2.. its a pretty low key character mug.. basicly molded to look like a tapered barel with a facade of a clipper ship.. and over that.. it says BEER.. nothing too fancy.. but fun none the less. now for antiquated computer stuff.. a very old gravis joystick.. with very odd looking connectors.. it looks like the controller goes in line of a PS2 type connector.. I'm thinking its macintosh.. I need to do some research on this one.. it was a gift so I gotta play and figure it out
  4. common carts going down? HA! I lost a 1 cent auction by .5 the other day.. allright.. one cent auction.. no bidders.. an hour left.. so I threw down for 50 cents.. pretty saticfied I had it, turns out the next day I was out bid by 5 cents at the last second.. but.. I had to have this really damn common game so I was still able to snag it for 1.99, with shipping. $4.75.. me and the buyer agreed on a round $5 for all the trouble.. so.. I'm out thrifting today.. I find the exact cart I had just got on Ebay for the round $5 for $4.75 lord.. I was upset.. the game in question is warlords by the way.. so now.. i have two copies.. but just so you people know..atari carts are basicly the highest traded item on Ebay in that catagory.. no wonder prices are soaring.. how many of y'all check out the other auction sites.. like say..yahoo? ebay has the best selection.. but.. y'know..theres something about going to the dirt mall
  5. No I think this is just a rumor. Matt said that he definetly did NOT do a 2600 version, and doesn't remember there ever being one. Tempest that stands to reason.. the ST version he has is a review copy.. the gentleman also confides that the 2600 cart he has never fired up in his sears console.. so even if it is real it's most likely dead anyways. it gets interesting....
  6. Zenji 800/400 version this apperntly is a prototype from a sell out form creative computing.. theres also apperntly a 2600 version.. was this game commercially released? I have a line on a couple of protos.. here.. if any one knows any thing.. please drop a line
  7. I've been having some pretty decent luck lately.. the thrifts have yielded some +3's and commons I don't have.. I know a dud operates a vintage console booth at the super flea.. but they're only open on the weekends.. And I'm usually working at that time.. but thatnks to some changes going on here on the home front.. its starting to look more promising to get out there before my sunday shifts. I also have some vintage store owners on the look out for me.. so I check in about once a month. a great deal of my collection has come from the garbage men, bums picking trash.. and apartment manager buddies that have to pick thru leftover trash from abandoned apartments. theres something to be said about dumpster diving.. especially if you can get some one else to do it for you
  8. did a little thrifting today.. they didnt have much.. four over priced bare sega's and a handfull of carts.. however.. I did find Space Cavern by apolloI also grabbed space invaders I actually didnt have that one.. I havent cleaned it yet.. but its looklike.. I still don't have it I also grabbed Outrunners for the sega.. never heard of it.. But I'm suspecting its a outrun clone. but space cavern works.. and its a rarity3.. price...75 cents! I passed up on the Pacman cart tottal haul was 2.38
  9. lets see.. an unmodified 2600.. hook your RF switch into the antenna in of a VCR, prefibaly a Hi-fi VCR. next you run the two RCA audio outs of the VCR into the Auxilery input of stereo reciever.. tune VCR to channel three.. power up everything.. and now you should have big booming Atari blipping goodness. of course.. you could also do the AV mod on your atari, and completly bypass the RF switch and signal and run directly with the RCA in's and outs like say a playstation. now the atari is not a stereo device persay.. but there are two audio channels implemented in programing.. this gives some interesting aural effects, just keep in mind.. they're not intentional. However some homebrews like skeleton actually take advantage of this programing quirk for "true" stereo.. like the approaching footsteps of your enimy is actually directional and with the stereo mod you can actually use the sound to anticipate and react.. the synth cart is a music machine that releys heavily on a stereo mod hope all that helps ya
  10. Reactor! Scary as hell industrial riff from following the explosion! freaked me out as a kid.. then I was forced to start wearing all black and hanging out with moody women. that game is in my top ten
  11. welcome to AA brad.. the donuts and coffee are to the back of the room.... AHHAHHAHAHA! allright.. sorry step by step with pictures would be nice.. but there are a lot of how to guides around.. a lot of links and what not.. most things are fairly common sence.. the biggest step by step guides around here will be the AV mods.. basicly, they teach you how to extract a composite signal from the unit instead of useing the RF cable and switch box.. rather usefull.. as for your power problem.. the spring for the negitive side of your power plug is worn.. it helps hold the plug in place.. so that would explain having to keep the plug taped in to maintain contact. a simple fix.. if possible would be to open up the 2600 look at the power plug, find the little spring looking doohicky in there, and use something that will fit in there to bend that spring in closer to the middle.. if that doesnt work.. desolder the contacts of the power plug and take it to radioshack and find the closest match.. and replace it. other people on these forums will probably help you with actuall part numbers, or you could make up your own little modification to make the same thing happen with what you can find.. the power plug is basicly just a mono type mini phono jack. the cart in question is probably fine.. just dirty.. clean the contacts before you do anything else.. the shaking could be a lot of things.. I dont know what type of cart it is.. if its an original atari cart.. it could be one of the kind that has a spring loaded dust cover inside it.. and that mechinism is whats doing the rattaling.. but if its working intermittidly.. that sounds like more of a case of the contacts simply being dirty than anything else I use a VCR cleaning kit.. yeah..from radio shack.. the kit comes with a jar of cleaning solution and five cleaning wands.. little right angle plastic sticks with chamoise material wrapped around the end.. you soak the cleaning end with the cleaning solution and rub the contacts of the carts with these sticks untill clean.. badda bing badda bomb..clean atari carts hope that helps
  12. and of course.. if you're more used to pad type controller.. you could just use the genesis controlers and use the B button for firing..
  13. oh HELL YEAH! I love that mod! I had that Idea running thru my head when I stumbled on that link However.. I would use the original face for the rack mount instead of the momentary push buttons. to put it in another way.. I would copy the orginal controll scheme of the VCS and place it on the face of the rack. if my original was a four switcher, only then would I use the mini toggles for the difficulty switches, the controller ports would be placed to extreme left and right of the VCS face. my mod would also differ in that it wold be done up in glourious wood grain and not that dang day-glo green hmmm.. I would say a clear acyrlic cart port that could be back lit might be interesting and krobby..that link was an inspiration.. but I want to do something that isnt as reliant on laptop parts.. besides that.. I wanna do this for myself.. and I HATE touch pad mouses I intend to basicly create a case for a standard power supply then make a plug port for the power chords. coming out of the back of the unit.. I know.. it aint pretty and perfect.. But its a personal exercise. and not ment for mass production.. besides.. those units dont allow for actual VCS functionality, except via emulation and Wiz.. if you can drop a link where I can find those adaptors.. it would be appreciated buddy
  14. Ive got a dead donkey Kong cart here that I can't do nothing with.. it happens.. I'm afraid to say. keep in mind.. I'm a very moderate collector and my collection is very limited.. Ihang out with you guys for the good conversation.. in any case.. yeah.. DK is dead.. I should get another copy... also my combat cart has a broken spring for the dust cover.. I'm thinking of just yanking out that mechinism but tis a cying shame about Adventure.. first cart I got when I got back into Atari.. was my favorite game as a kid my cart acts funny though.. no amount of fussing with the difficulty switches will alter the settings of the game
  15. fun game! 648 was my high after five minutes of playing.. naw.. no damage indicator.. if youve ever flown a real RC helecopter before ( like the game implies) trust me.. you hit something.. yer going home for the day
  16. or the VCR could be the problem.. try connecting directly to the TV replace the RF cable.. other than that.. the RF modulator could be on the fritz
  17. What price are we talking about? Keeping in mind that your Cuttle Cart will not draw as much cash, given that the CCII is on the horizon. I do have a Supercharger coming that I could do the mod on and have the full functionality. I did want to go through and document what games won't work properly with an unmodified Supercharger. Has anyone posted this information previously? Jim the cuttlecart 2 is going to be for the 7800 only as far as I know.. cuttlecart 1 is for the 2600 now.. if you have a burner....you could drop me a line....
  18. mmmmmm cat... the other gray meat!
  19. theres a story about my prefrence for hardwood floors as opposed to wall to wall carpeting......and it pertains to cats...
  20. yep.. a replacement RCA cord will work. I have had simular problems with my unit, and the culprit is the switchbox itself I'm afraid to say in my case, and it was a new one from radiohack. so I just got the the direct co-ax to RCA type RF adaptor and everything works fine now. only prblem is that now you dont have the ability to switch from game to TV on the fly. this isnt a problem if you have a dedicated television for the console, but it is if you plan to use it like anyother. My set up here is that I have a old HI-FI VCR feeding into my computers TV tuner capture card ( ATI All-In-Wonder ) a sega automatic RF switch into the antenna in on the VCR, and the straight RF adaptor screwed into the sega switch. of course the composite consoles are pluged into the AV inputs of the VCR. Just in case you didnt know, you cant substitute the Sega RF switch for the Atari, the Atari doesnt have the ability to ingage the switch over. however running a straight RF signal thur this works just find, and is not as RF buggy as the regular slide switch models I hope all that helps
  21. cat piss.. very acidiic, and full of amonia. its also extremly concentrated. remember, cats are origianly desert animals and make very efficiant use of thier piss. thats just to explain the reason why the cats piss tore everything up as for the actual pissing incident.. cats are like tigers.. and only live in packs when resources are plentiful. you.. are the dominant cat in the pack, so thier natural tendency is to bury the waste as to not offend you by thier scent.. notice ina cat population, the only one that does not bury thier waste is the dominent one. simple way around this? keep the litter box clean so they don't look for other places to hide thier waste. of course sometimes cats, like children will act out just to get your attention. Dogs do it too so lets not get on a cat vs. dog debate based on this subject.. thats for off topic
  22. As for the Mountain dew thang... the below picture is from the 2600 archives on this here website.... ahh.. when I open up a pub, I shall hack my beers logo intothe game and have it for play at the place
  23. it should just accept the miniplug to RCA adaptor that come with Portable CD players. I'm assuming it isnt stereo so a little thing like that might be right up your ally
  24. ahhh yeah.. my "new" case arrived the other day.. work shall begin soon Next step is to find the most absolutlly smallest foot print MoBo out there that can handle what I want to do with this. then of course theres building an aadaptor to lay PCI cards on thier side. the easist thing to do is to get one with on board video and all that good stuff, but that wont accomodate the video driver, so I'm still stuck with performing that operation, and besides.. onboard video tends to be lacking. sure.. I could just hack up a New Laptop and pull this off much easier.. But wheres the fun in that!? other straight up VCS case mods could be say.... use a heat absorbing needle cutter on a dremel tool and route out channels on the back side of the grooves on the VCS deck. also, remove the little felt pads under the switches. at this point mount a cold cathode tube up in there for internal lighting. I dont know about routing out the fuji.. pretty damn small, but it could work. also considering removing all that plastic from the deck could lead to some structrual integrity issues, you could leave channels and not cut all the way accross the back side of the groove. cooling isn't really an issue with the VCS, but you could install a fan for shits and giggles at this point
  25. dang..after reading that article.. I wish he was MY granddad!
