The 5200 was DESIGNED to up against the Intellivision, they didn't know about the Colecovision until it appeared at the '82 Summer Electronic Show when Atari showed off the 5200. I've always read too that Atari was "late" in bringing out a 2600 adapter for the 5200 as the original version had to be modified for it to work!
