      I wonder if you could make a decent stereo out of a 2600? Put in some really good car speakers, maybe stuff a tiny crossover and subwoofer in there.

      It could have been an FCC problem. NTSC sound is at 4.5MHz (whereas the rest of the game was probably below 1MHz), and this might have required a specially shielded area on the board.

      I remember talking to Jim Heller at Atari back in '79 when I was inquiring about getting composite video from the 2600. He told me it was a last minute decision in the design to have the sound come from the tv, as the engineers felt it would be more realistic.

    Now a stock 7800 can play 4mb games. A pokey chip can be installed on the board for arcade sound. so for argument sake, let just say, the money was there, the willingness of the company, and the time given to the programmers write these games, and without the help of the (XM Module) *if of course the XM was really needed to pull off a certain game* My question is.. Is there a Nintendo game, that the 7800 can or cannot be programmed to play on? I mean in terms of sprites, scrolling, etc. colour was never an issue, flickering wasn't an issue either. Just something I've always wanted to ask.

      Had Atari taken up Nintendo, we'd have NES with keyboard and disk drive and no 7800 at all ever. Odds are SMS might have sold better.

      I'd always heard they might buy it and then tuck it away so they could release the 7800...But this was before anyone realized it would be a runaway success.
