DevOS RAM Cart Transfer Question
CannibalCat replied to CannibalCat's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
Eckhard, it was a 32k binary, I tried transferring it as 7832 and also as "TEST" (the autodetect). When I went to copy it back, I'm pretty sure I chose 7832 as well. I'll double check tonight. Also need to go over the pins with a fine tooth comb. -
Red, you are the man! Your sprite work never ceases to amaze. I'm just getting started on the 7800 and would love to work with you in the future!

DevOS RAM Cart Transfer Question
CannibalCat replied to CannibalCat's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
Well, something is definately amiss... tried to read back the binary and 7800ctrl thinks it's a 48K cart with 16K to transfer... maybe an address line issue? I need a magnifying glass! When is that Harmony 2 cart coming out?? -
DevOS RAM Cart Transfer Question
CannibalCat replied to CannibalCat's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
CPUWIZ, yeah the top down pic is misleading, pins 20 and 22 are bridged and quite elevated away from pin 21... but I'll double check everything when I get home, could be a short somewhere I suppose. -
DevOS RAM Cart Transfer Question
CannibalCat replied to CannibalCat's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
Eckhard, I'll give that a shot tonight... that's a good idea. One other question: Do I need to use a78sign on the binary before I send it over (after assembly), or is that just for burning EPROMS? -
Hello, just made a 32k Linear RAM cart yesterday for my DevOS 0.2 modded 7800. I am able to dump carts no problem so I think my HW setup is valid, sending binaries to the new cart seems to work fine as well (sent a 32k binary and it copied successfully), after uploading to the 7800 it goes back to the DevOS menu (as it should), I choose "Play 7800 game" and hit reset but I just get a black screen. I'm wondering about the placement of R1 and C2 as required by the instructions, maybe I have something wrong? Anyone ever run across these symptoms? I attached a pic of the cart. Plans were from: http://www.oocities.org/gjp57/devcarts.pdf

Help identify this port/upgrade on an 800...
CannibalCat replied to CannibalCat's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thanks guys... this particular one is on the way to me, more info when I get it and look inside I guess. -
Hello, Was wondering what this extra port on the right side of this 800 could be for... any thoughts? (see attached photo) Thanks

Before I started back on my Atari 2600 and 5200 projects, I finished one (and put another on hold) game for XBox 360 Indie Games. First one is a Robotron / Smash TV inspired twin-stick arena shooter entitled "Every Other Shooter", released in early August 2012: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Every-Other-Shooter/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550ba3 The other one, entitled "Decimator" is on hold (mockup screen): http://img339.images...9962/protoc.png

Yeah, if and when this 7800 Harmony (or "Harmony 2") goes to production, I'm down as well! Love my current Harmony cart, but would love to be able to run custom homebrew code from an SD-Card.

7800 RAM Cart with Pokey anyone?
CannibalCat replied to CannibalCat's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
I don't have anything else equipment wise... I kind of bailed on the whole setup / idea for now since I got a Harmony cart for 2600 work. But thanks for all your help! -
These conversions are awesome! Would love to see Drop Zone done as well!

Got mine today... easy to get up and running... even switch between development and menu mode. Great job! Looking forward to the next iteration of this great piece of hardware!

7800 RAM Cart with Pokey anyone?
CannibalCat replied to CannibalCat's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
Ok, found the short... seems to be working until I try to SEND a binary to it, stops at 256 bytes (of 2048) every time and says "Timeout". Same thing with a 16K binary (stops at 1792 of 16384 bytes)... any ideas? -
All the sprites done in this thread are amazing... as a programmer, I am totally re-inspired to tackle a 2600 game in the near future.

Same as Andrew here, just setup the Eclipse IDE with the WUDSN plugin, Stella for emulation/debugging, ATASM as the assembler. Also have a 7800 running DevOS 0.2 hooked up via parallel port with a RAM cart (still working through some issues with the cart). All running on an old IBM Thinkpad X31 laptop (docked).

Ok, tried it, same thing (nothing)... but I do notice that the RAM chip is getting really hot really fast... sound like a short? -

Eckhard, Could be... what is the value of the cap you used? -
7800 RAM Cart with Pokey anyone?
CannibalCat replied to CannibalCat's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
Yes, it was the 32K Pokey Dev cart from the doc you mention: http://www.oocities.org/gjp57/devcarts.pdf Image of my attempt: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/507/27289910150255715674496.jpg/ -
Hey, I tried building a RAM cart w/Pokey chip recently from online plans with little success. Tried several different RAM chips as well per the recommendations. Does anyone have a pre-built one (or maybe could build one) that can offer up? I've already modded my 7800 with DevOS 0.2 (works fine) and build the parallel port cable (from PC to joystick port) and was able to dump a cart successfully, so I know that part works, just need the RAM cart! Thanks!
