Back in the good 'ol days of 19, I posted a fix I'd done to SpartadosX 4.22 to solve the same problem (back in the year 01). Re-posting my fix even though there are MUCH better patches out there. I know the newer TDLINE 's from the Sparta update project do work much better. That being said, about 20 years ago I patched my TDLINE.com on SDX 4.22 and renamed it TDD.com and it worked fine for years following Y2K . From Comp.Sys.Atari.8bit Okay ... I want you to go to the archives and find a program called "Bedit.com" by Bill Aycock I believe. Next, pull a copy of TD.COM from your SDX cart (type car:td.com >>td.com) Now, using Bedit, edit your TD.COM. (R) reads the file into Bedit. Go to byte 426 using the goto command (G). This is the start of a 12 byte table. Increment the 12 bytes by 1. e.g 00, 03, 03, 06, 01 becomes 01, 04, 04, 07, 02 the command is, =01 or what ever the required byte is. Write the file to a disk (W) a name other than TD.COM (TDD.COM) .. and load it insted of TD.COM when you next boot SDX ... you're day of the week is now correct. The existing 12 bytes will be: 00 03 03 06 01 04 06 02 05 00 03 05 followed by the days of the week first letter table SSMTWTF Hope this helps

Thank you for a very nostalgic read. Just doesn't feel like it was 37 years ago. Yet, it was enjoyable a familiar name like, 'Scott Brause', giving DOS modifications demo's; reading about upcoming demos of 'Amodem'. It's funny how just reading a simple club zine like this can bring back so many memories of being part of a club, of faces that have long since drifted away. Thank you for sharing.

I recall using the G: handler (can't recall the magazine it was in) to get the same print out from my seikosha printer

Who is still using his/her CSS The BlackBox!

At one point in time I'd owned a 256k MIO, a 1Meg MIO and a BB/FB combo. The 256k MIO went to Ronnie Riche which allowed him to complete the final release of TextPRO. I can recall him being in awe of the speed of the compile times from the ram disk and that he could keep everything, "right there". A good 12 years ago, I'd lent out the BB/FB, MUX system, some XL's and and XE to a teacher friend that wanted to show off retro computer to their class. Some how they'd pulled to BB out of the XE and, tried to "Jam" it back in the slot. Blew the power supply, peeled the PBI off the the mother board and I seem to recall having to replace one chip on the BB. New power supply is an old PC switching supply, the XE got used to practice soldering skills. Replaced the XE OS in my 1450xl with a MUX OS and tied it to an XL running the BB/FB and 16meg dive. The 1Meg MIO still gets used as well, it's currently attached to an XE, several floppy drives, and ATR8000 and two drives: either the ATR or the attached drives needs work, the A: drive attached to the ATR now just seeks (click o death) while the B: drive boots and reads fine. got a feeling when I do finally open it all up, I'm going to find a fat cap some place or a diode not doing it's duty. -
Opening a dialogue for SpartaDOS Source Code

In a lot of ways I'm the same, I went in fully for the Mars8 top of the line board, knowing that I was investing in a start-up and sometimes things don't quite work out. I was torn at the time between the Mars8 and the GenLock. When things didn't work out, Mike contacted me at my office and we had a very good conversation. In the end, I told him not to worry the money. He did offer a trade that would have been more than fair, that I turned down for reasons of my own. While we never did see a Mars8 board, in a way we've seen its heir in the Incognito. I did end up with a Sweet16 and a TransKey (tk-1)with DataQue paperwork. -

I'm not really around a lot anymore, though I've never given up my affection for the Atari. That little box inspired me to go from Basic to Assembly (with a side trip to Action!) as well as opening the door to digital logic and soldering skills. I might be a little off base at this point in the discussion, but as posted by 'The Doctor' at the beginning of this forum thread, it might be nice to include those that have returned to the fold as well; people like Paul (Pab) Sungenis and Michael St. Pierre. I used the heck out of PabQwk back in the days when I had a shell account with a Qwk tosser. Suddenly logging into a Syncronet or Wildcat BBS to keep up on the latest FidoNet feeds was an offline joy. It feels like the old days on 'Comp.Sys.Atari.8bit' to see his name again. And Michael, I've still got an original TransKey and AT keyboard attached to an 800xl, and still remember trying to find a way to justify the purchase of a GenLock (which, sadly, I never could). I guess when you're an old fart, it's kind of nice to see a few old faces that surprise you by showing up when least expected.

I've got a TransKey stashed somewhere around here, like as not still in the 130XE I'd used it with. The device only worked with either an AT or XT keyboard; sadly I don't recall which it was now. Regardless, those types of keyboard would be rather hard to come by these days.

Just checked the voltages on the power supply to my non working BB (old story), not attached to the BB I get -5, 12, and 5. Attached to the BB I get -5, 12 and 1.2. I've never thought to check the supply after plugging it in, Makes me wonder if it really could be just that simple .. after having tried swapping every chip I could get duplicates of ...

I didn't come by my first set of Percom's until sometime after 2000, but I did have (still do) an ATR8000 and with that I was able to attach all the 'none' Atari drives I'd wanted.

And I've gotten good use out of switch 7 in the past. I miss having that BB/FB combo though. My mistake was to lend out a system (130xe, 2 800xl's, BB/FB, Mux and hard drive to a teacher friend who was interested is showing her class a classic system and just what these systems could do in their day. At some point, the BB got removed from the 130xe and then jammed back in; ripping the ECI loose from the mother board and in the process, sending stray voltages into the BB causing it to no longer boot. So, if Bob wants to make another production run of BB's, I'm there .. if the new and improved MIO can be switched to read BB formatted hard drives, I'll have to add a third MIO to my collection.
-
I've got both the 256 and 1meg version of the MIO and I've been toying with the idea of getting the upgraded MIO. If it could read black box formatted hard drives, I'd be there.
-
If Bob were to make another run of the Black box, or even the floppy board, I'd be right in that line cash in hand. After lending out my BB/FB and having it come back shorted (no longer able to boot) I've been hoping for either and MIO like project or for one to show up for sale or auction.

and to think, I've got an original Writer's Tool (orange cart along with 9" yellow notebook manual); if I didn't have such good memories of using it I might almost be tempted ... It's no 'Last Word' killer, but it was fun to use in it's day. I've a memory of saying something to Ronnie Riche about WT and getting that look of, "Dude, you're letting the team down here". In the end, gave Ronnie my 256k MIO to produce the last versions of TP.

I'd had a BB / FB once. Sadly I'd lent it along with several 800xl's and 130xe, hardrive and Mux to a friend who as part of her computer course wanted an example of an early computer system. At some point the BlackBox had been jamed into the 130xe ripping the ECI connection loose and shorting the BB ... in other words, "it's dead jim". I'd hang on to it if you've any interest at all in classic computers, it's a nice device to have.
