  1. My bluray player's streaming system is outdated now. Replace the player with a Sony BDP-S6500 player or keep it and add a Roku 2? Thoughts?

I don't really like the idea of streaming through my phone, and I can spend the extra money for a device with a remote.

For Rokus, I think the 2 would do for me. The 4 is aimed at 4K, so largely useless, and I don't need the extra bells on the 3, based on what I've read.

  2. Nope, that's the open end of those carts.
  3. A local retro gaming FB group booted me after I questioned the idea a Gameboy game could be worth $8,000. No loss. It was dominated by Nintendo fanboys anyway. I prefer the company of Atarians!

Thinking that some things can merit "high" prices is one thing. But I think once you get into a certain level (and $8k certainly is) you better have real, solid reasons. Or am I just nuts?

  4. A 7800 I bought from them never worked right. Games would spontaneously reset. Was never able to deal with it. Fortunately, I had another, and now two others. The explanation given about being "too busy" doesn't sound legit to me.
  5. Oh, gawd, the homebrews. So much excellent stuff there. It truly is an incredible, amazing resource. We got it sooooo good.
  6. For me, the 2600 controller is the best option for games that don't need the second fire button. I recently received the Edladdin adapter that Trebor mentioned and I can say it works as advertised. I hooked up my 6-button Genesis controller to it, and had use of two fire buttons. The 7800 Euro pads are better than its sticks, but they're not as good as the Genesis controllers. The adapter is a simple, elegant, affordable solution. Especially for those without the ability to "make their own" controllers.... PacMan Collection is a must for any 7800 owner.

As I said in a recent podcast, the curse of being a adult is the money to buy all the games you want but not having the time to play them!

I was going to be off, but I swapped days with a co-worker so he could go to a Springsteen concert tonight. Because I'm a nice guy like that (contrary to popular opinion.)

  8. I have a co-worker who eats at her desk constantly, every day, and smacks her lips... she also talks to herself... arrrgggghhhhh!

I would eat something that gives you nasty gas and let it rip, as soon as she starts eating.

You could print this out and put it on her desk when nobody is looking:

If she doesn't get the message, you could keep printing it out and sneaking it onto her desk until she does.

  10. I got a local idiot who keeps listing and relisting a dirty, busted up 2600 on CraigsList for $200. I once went through and X'd them all out so I wouldn't see it, but every now and then it reappears. He just can't accept it ain't worth that much and should never sell for that much. He's just wasting his time. I don't throw "idiot" around casually, but whoever is behind that listing truly is one.
  11. May I go on "the list" as well? I'd be happy to get an XM and some of the games that run on it once they're available.
  12. Never had to pay full price for Sirius XM. $5 per month always. Just have to call every 5 months and "do the dance" to keep it.

    1. Tombstone

      Tombstone

Please instruct on the dance. I just called today and they want $112 for a year. That was the lowest i could get. :)

I just call and tell them I want the same deal continued, that's what it's worth to me, or I'll cancel. I either get it straight away, or after saying I'll cancel, it's suddenly available.

I could never get the same price for a longer time, I tried, they wouldn't do it, 5 months was the most.

  13. To add to what Nathan said - the homebrews are also aimed at a specialty , niche market. In such a scenario, prices for anything would be expected to be higher. In this case, for these homebrew games, I find the prices reasonable.
  14. I've seen much higher prices for NES homebrews.
  15. This same seller has been listing AA store games at prices higher than the store prices, and high priced reproduction carts. Not sure I'd trust whoever this person is.
  16. Most homebrews are around $30. I don't think that's high or extreme. It's only when a box is added - a nice but unnecessary addition - that you get prices at $50. And some homebrews are $25 to $20. Very reasonable, I say. Many have reviews, there's game play videos, review videos. For some you can play the rom on an emulator or Harmony before buying. But any ranking is going to be subjective.
  17. So, if the Space Rocks cartridge has a processor inside the cart, I would conclude that means it can't be run on a Harmony cart, because you can't just download the ROM and run it without that processor present. Right? "Ya know, I learned something today... "
  18. I'm lost in all this tech talk. I own a good number of homebrew games, have never been disappointed. I have Toyshop Trouble and Space Rocks in an order I should have next week (along with 5200 Tempest and 7800 Astro Blaster). Am I to understand that there is an additional processor inside the Space Rocks cart? If so, what others are like that? Or is this more about how the games are developed?
  19. Someone posts on FB image of a 2600 they got for $5; one person asks "What is it?" Ouch.

  21. Q about Space Rocks: Does it need or allow for two joysticks to control? The screen image I see shows two joysticks. So I'm fuzzy about the control scheme.

If one player uses a game pad, are two fire buttons then used? Or just one, or they both do the same thing (fire)? Sorry for all the questions but ty for the help.

    3. SpiceWare

      SpiceWare

If gamepad is specified the special option (hyperspace, shields, flip 180) is relocated from joystick-down to the second firebutton.

If gamepad is not specified, the second firebutton does nothing.

My guess is Scramble uses two fire buttons. I avoid such games because I don't like the controller options, sticks or pads. I try to stay with games I can use the 2600 controller with.

  24. That was kind of a bummer to hear. I was, maybe still am, considering buying it boxed anyway. Is the ship difficult to control? Hard to gauge by watching a video.
  25. While I don't think a 5200 specifically would be needed, one with the 8-bit computer style games of the 5200 and the 8 bit computer line has the potential for being successful. Those games had good graphics, sound and gameplay. Key word being "could." I would not have faith in AtGames being able to pull that off successfully. The good graphics, sound and gameplay would probably be lost in cheap emulation. And the games people would really want to play probably wouldn't be included.
